Ref didn't blow his whistle, don't understand how the first goal can stand.

Come on Barney keep up, he doesn't need to, its a quick free kick, just like anywhere else on the pitch. :)

Why do they normally blow the whistle then when it's a position like that?

You might have a point there Barney. I remember arsenal I think doing something similar. Henry asked if he could take it quickly and the ref let him. But it doesnt look or feel right.

Let's let Graham Poll explain.......

First you have to deal with the principle of a free-kick.

If the attacking team are fouled then it is they who hold the advantage.

With a free-kick around the penalty area, we always ask the players whether they want it quick or slow.

This is their window of opportunity to surprise the defence.

If they want it quick, then they have given up the right to re-take it, no matter if it hits a defender who's three yards away.

The same goes if they kick it over the bar. They only get one chance.

The flip side is if they want it slow, they can't then take it while I count out the ten yards for the wall.

They must wait for my whistle.

There is nothing in the laws of the game that say we have to indicate for the free-kick to be taken.

It's just like when someone wants to take a free-kick anywhere else on the field.

As long as the ball is stationary and in the right place then the attacking team can take it as quickly as they like.

Alright Barney I had to look it up! o_O

I love those numbers... why cant we go back to 1 - 11, at least you had an idea where they play... and it would help our plays sometimes....
I love the numbers 2-1 much better than 1 nil!

You're right, shouldn't have been allowed. You 'should' tell the ref you're going for a quick free kick and he just let's you get on with it.
The blades player clearly tells him that he is going to take it and he allows it, problem here though is that he has allowed the GK to start setting up the wall so the "quick" free kick is long gone.

You sometimes see the refs hold the whistle in the air and tap it to indicate that nothing can proceed without him blowing.

Poor decision, it really was.

It was Twitter and FB tittle tattle but let's blame BM.

Please show me which part of my post was having a go at him? I want him to play. I want him to be given a chance. All I did was point out that it shouldnt have been allowed and that is down to the referee.

We are allowed to admit if an incorrect decision goes for us you know.

Also - the fact I put "blades player" clearly shoes I didn't even know who scored it.

first goal is debatable to say the least but a great second goal. proper slick move.

on the topic of Diego, i know for whatever reason that a select few are just going to perpetually hate the lad and trot out the same old 'whens he off to juve' and 'billy big bollocks' stuff whenever he gets mentioned but unless he really does have a MAJOR attitude problem then i genuinely don't see why he's any less deserving of a squad spot than any of our other forwards at the minute (billy excluded obviously). he's by all accounts playing well and scoring quite a few for the u21's so there's no harm in chucking him on the bench and maybe even giving him the odd start to see what he can do whilst we've got nothing to play for.

By the same token, why is there not a queue of teams wanting him on loan? He had a decent record at York, Adkins wants our players playing games, so what's stopping it?

He hasn't been playing consistently this season due to injuries.

He must have one hell of an attitude not to be getting a chance in the current situation. But I doubt it. Maybe it's more to do with his injury record, but he's fit now. It makes no sense at all to be completely overlooking him when he could potentially be an asset for us. Our forwards are a joke, we have nothing to play for, if not now then when? He'll end up at Chesterfield for nothing - we'll insist on it with our Morgs being there.

Yeah, I just think if he's ready to play for our first team then he must be ready to go on loan. And the latter is much more likely under Adkins as he doesn't like bench dwellers.

  1. Barney just loves questioning anything we get right

I fully back Adkins over Adams on Saturday but why bring Sammon back yet again? Plenty have had more than one chance this season under NA , give DdG another chance.
Not sure I fully agreed with Adkins but I agree your point.

Bringing in DDG or DCL he could have said "if you're not going to apply yourself, then maybe your chance should go to another young lad who will". Also creates a bit of friendly rivalry.

I'm bringing in Conor, he's been shit all season and I'm doing it to spite you. I'm that petty I'd rather ruin the team's chances on this principal.

That's the message the chosen action conveyed, to me as an observe anyway.

There is of course the possibility he'd decided to go with more experience anyway and this was a happy coincidence that also suited his management of Adams. In which case it was just poor tactically, he should have picked an unchanged winning team. Actions like that are why we have no consistency.
