Assuming no outgoings and no more incoming I would like to thank our owners for a fantastic window which gives Wilder a more than fair shot at the top 2.
Madine , Dowell and Hogan are in fairness all marquee signings.

Whatever is going off behind the scenes Mc Cabe and the Prince have come up trumps this time.

Yeah got to say since promotion and all the boardroom contretemps, the owners have undoubtedly backed Wilder, especially considering their modest wealth football wise.

We've sold to fund but once upon a time those monies wouldn't have been reinvested in the same way.

How are Madine or Dowell 'marquee' signings? seriously?

One went for £6m a year ago and the other is one of Everton's hottest prospects.

I'd say these aren't yer' average Championship signings.

I have no issues with them as footballers but let's be realistic.

No, you only seem to have 'issues' when the club does something positive .

Stick the boot in now before either of them score. If they do well, it will be much harder later.

I'm sure Wilder will get these lads to gel but hardly marquee signings. I think a loan for shot shy striker, a youngster that is still relatively unproven and a striker that has been injured more than he's been fit in the last 12 months is doing the best you can with a mid table budget.

Shit window. I'm never going again.
McCabe aht.
Wilder and Knill aht.
Madine aht.
In fact every fucking thing aht. Even mi nob.

I would disagree. I would say they aren't signings that any other club in the top 6 would make. Whether they end up being inspired is not the point. They ARE NOT marquee signings so stop trying to make them look like some kind of coup. When they're you're kind of average Championship signings.

Well said Billy boy!

I was thinking the same.

It's not so long ago we sold Deane, Agana and Fjortoft in a similar timeframe whilst in a similar position.

I've no idea what's going off in the battle of the cardigan v the tea towel. But as long as it doesn't impact negatively on the football I don't give a flying foreskin about it.

Hogan looks quite terrified in between the grinning madmen behind him. It may be because the way the picture’s cut it looks like he’s ended up with his hands in their crotches...

Be reight! They look like 3 reight mincers!

Add Henderson and Egan to the list plus not losing any key players

Agree, should say “potentially” marquee signings.

All 3 are proven at Championship level and have fairly recently been top performers.
However all 3 are currently out of favour at their clubs, that’s why we’re able to get them.
So it’s up to Wilder to kick start their seasons. If they perform at their best then we have 3 top players for this level.

The great news is we’re not massively over reliant on any of them hitting top from.
We already have 2 good strikers but it doesn’t hurt if you can have 4 really good strikers all with different qualities. Dowell is an alternative to playing Duffy, who we know is always subbed.

Basically our 3 new players are like buying insurance cover, we are now much better prepared for the run in.

In reality who else in the top 6 has made better signings this window?

I am very happy with the business this JTW,. We are in with a genuine shot at auto and at least POs.

I have come to the conclusion that some Blades fans will never be happy no matter what.

Agree, all I ask is that Wilder is supported and given a chance to compete in the promotion battle.
We’ve signed 3 players, Dowell was one of the top midfielders in the league at the beginning of last season then went off the boil.
Madine was one of the best strikers in this league at the beginning of last season then went off the boil.
Hogan was the best striker in this league 2 years ago, then has been injured or underwhelming since.

We know all 3 players have performed really well in this league, so it potentially gives us a much stronger squad.

I wish I still had hair and a few teeth.

Oh to be a young lad, playing footie and earning £160k a week.

Coo Coo

The main thing is we didn't cash in on anyone. A shitty bid from West Ham is all we have had to deal with.

Adding Dowell and Hogan is great business.

I think it has been a great window, there are pros and cons to any move. Realistically we were never going to be able to replace any of Sharp, Duffy and Mcgoldrick. Without spending tens of millions. Also, why would we, when all are on fire?

The key is strengthening our squad and giving us more and different options, which we have done. All have done well at some point in the championship. With Hogan and Madine going for quite big fees.

They aren't going straight in to the team and replacing them. They are an insurance against injuries and give options from the bench or for certain games. Our bench looks really strong now and looks like we can make positive changes to change games.

Think it has been a successful window and sets us up nicely for the final promotion push.

OK Bill I like that you are happy, excited and your optimism, but we should wait and see what these 3 ‘world beaters’ can achieve! Hopefully the new players will add something to the squad, but it takes time, Dowell looks like he could be a good player but at the moment he keeps getting caught in possession, and alarmingly keeps giving the ball away in dangerous areas, Madine has played 1 game and did OK, and Hogan needs to stay free of injuries and recover that Brentford form that made him a £9 million striker. Looking forward to watching them all progress and crossed fingers, let’s see what happens.

It is of course too early to tell if it was a good transfer window. Last season, people said we'd done great business, and it turned out that we hadn't.

No harm in bolstering and getting in strength in depth. My big hope is that Wilder doesn't get JamesWilsonitis and start playing our new strikers too much at the expense of the in form ones who were already here. Same for Dowell and Duffy. It's good to give our best players a break, but no rotation for the sake of it please.

I'm with Wilder. Happy with the signings that have been made, but unhappy with the short term thinking which could damage the club in the longer term. We've done the best of a bad lot. Hopefully we are promoted and/or the ownership issue is sorted out in time for the next transfer window.

Agree the point being made here.

Who out of the top 6 has made signings far better than ours?

WBA had a good window I'd say:
Johanson - I'd have liked to replace Fleck if he went. He's been sat on his backside at one of the teams likely to get relegated. In contrast to Dowell's 10 goals in 40 odd games for Forest you'd hardly say there was a stellar difference between them.
Montero - a player I liked when at BDTBL for Swansea, but he's also a crock and has been getting splinters most of the season.
Murphy - a 12m signing for another relegation threatened team who has failed to make an impact at the top level.
All offset by the loss of Barnes who they will struggle to replace in terms of impact. In the meantime, as well as Dowell, we brought in 2 strikers who commanded a collective 18m on their last moves.

Leeds:
Brought in Real Madrid's 3rd choice keeper, and failed to get their top target, James.

Norwich:
Brought in a left back, a position they already have a decent player in, from Germany's second division.

Boro:
Signed Obi Mikel from the 14th based team out of 16 in China and Van La Parra, not needed by Huddersfield, 20th in the PL and failed to land any targets on deadline day including including Grosicki from Hull.

Derby:
Signed Andy King from Leicester.

Some decent players in there, but given what we needed, i.e. support for Duffy and potentially goals from midfield (check), a physical presence (check) and a player with some pace and finishing (check) I'm not sure we could have done more without silly money being lavished.

As you say CB, WBA have had the best JTW of the other top 6 and you can easily say thier signings are as much of a gamble as ours.

More importantly, we have not lost any of the players that have got us into the position we are in, WBA have.

The JTW is probably the one time I like loans more than permanents. There are very few permenant signings in January that are a success and value for money.

Time will indeed tell if we got it right. Without hindsight I think we have and dont think we could have asked for much more.

Three signings who have played at this level previously and none of our best players out of the door what's not to like ? A bit sad to see Leon depart I think he has been a cracking player for us so good luck to him. More steady team improvements from Wilder without breaking the bank. Very happy with our business this January.

I know the Brooks sale looks worse week-by-week, but that's twice now our board have stood firm on bids from Premier League teams for two of our most important players (O'Connell and Fleck).

Also no "head-turning" involved from those two ;)

I'd also add that CW has been chasing Hogan since the summer so sees something in him rather than him being all we could go for.

Agree that, as with any signing whether it be for free or £20m, we should wait and see what they can achieve. But I'd say that works both ways and we should neither big them up nor knock them down until they've had a chance in our team with our system.

You have to be realistic , before the window opened I reckon the majority on here would have been happy with how things have turned out, I bet the starting eleven tomorrow will be back to the tried and tested with the three new lads on the bench which from an attacking point of view looks pretty exciting
