This is what McCabe should do....

An absolutely class-but-knackered-legged passer of the ball (ala Cowans) would work brilliantly with NM.

We tried that in 2004 after Brown was sold, pairing McCall with Monty. Didn't work very well. Mind you, Cowans was a better player than McCall by then.

True but by then McCall was ready for the knackers yard, bless him. It couldve worked with speed had Speed stayed fit...

What McCabe should do is drag him in his office and tell him to stop falling out with players and sticking yes men on the pitch who are shit.

For those of you who just don't like Blackwell I am sure if he came out after the Vale game and said his boys tried their best but were beaten by a better team we would still have had an equal amount of ridicule. We ask the manager to be honest and should thank him when he has the courage to come forward. He has said before "we" succeed or fail together. Professionals are able to acknowledge when they screw up and should not need to be treated like children who can't take criticism. If you've ever been in a pro dressing room (some of the stuff on Youtube), then you'd know it aint sweet like what is said in public.

Andy Leaning seems to be more and more prominent around the dugout these days. perhaps KM's got him lined up to take over when Blackie gets the boot !!!

Where's big Sam Ellis? I didn't see him in the dug out at Middlesborough, and he wasn't sat up in the directors box with Speedo and our Turry either. Is he still part of the set-up, if so what part?

Good point. I didn't spot Sam Ellis either. Tuesday evening might have been a time when he'd have been sent out to do the post-match interview as well....

To steal an idea from earlier on in the thread I've always thought an ex football man should be brought in to sit between board and manager. I know the idea of Graham Taylor was floated but he wasn't interested in dropping his TV work.
I still think the idea has merits, especially if the long term aim is to put Speed in charge as this would give him the support he may require.
The problem is that man should really be Speeds choice, and you can't really do it while Blackwell is in the job without seriously undermining him.

The other question is are we getting ahead of ourselves? Blackwells style isn't going to win any friends but you can't argue that is isn't effective, the results would back this up.
While I would love us to get the ball down and pass teams off the park that isn't going to happen with these players and it does look like Blackwell is looking to find the right balance between direct and possession based play. Based soley on looking at the players he has brought in with regards to Evans, Little, and Reid.

I think we were all disappointed on Tuesday, and most of us have a high opinion of Speed, but lets not jump the gun.
Look at it this way should things not go well this season at least we have an option should a quick decision be required.

True, true, but it would be refreshing to hear Blackwell shoulder some blame himself. Not that it would change anything, but it could go some way to quashing the opinion that he is a touch self-righteous and egotistical.
