Take either a hungry youngish, recently retired player or preferably, an old, experienced manager whose been out of the game for a while. Give em a season ticket up in the gods in the BL corner for three months and let them assess whats going on on the pitch, get the measure of the players put out, target and identify areas of concern at the same time, get them out scouting at games midweek. Then come November, if we have gone as stale as its looking like we might, sack Blackwell and bring the new guy in, well prepped, ready to try his ideas using the basis of the squad until January, then make the neccessary signings to take us forward properly.

Stale? :), whilst we were crap in the cup, we are one single league game into the season!

Many new players to get settled, seem to be playing a different game (keeping it on the floor more, though i'd like to see Bunn's kicking exploited), think it's more than a little early to say we are looking stale :)

Pupps, why will we have gone stale by then?

Last season we lost at Brum first game and were quite poor.
This season we drew at Boro first game and were actually fairly good (maybe solid is the better word).

All of a sudden, after a fluke loss in the week, the end is nigh with some supporters.

Blackwell is going nowhere. His acquiesence to the sales of the likes of Naughton and Beattie whilst getting decent results out of those that remain is central to the reprofiling. There is no chance of him getting fired unless we are in the bottom 3 come Christmas or we have an awful start (say a 10 game winless run).

I think it's a bit premature to be talking about a new manager - we came 3rd last year and are only two games in to the season.
That's by the by though - if we do need a new manager we couldnt tee someone up to take over in three months:
- What decent manager is going to want to shadow the team for three months on the off chance that he then gets a job?
- It would almost make bad results a self-fulfilling prophecy, how could Blackwell or the team perform to their best if they know that someone is waiting in the wings?

I'd expect it to take that long for all new signings to settle in and be used to the way we play.

It does say IF we have gone stale...

I just get the feeling things will, personally. As for compare and contrast the opening days of the season, we were much better vs Birmingham than we were vs Middlesboro. Birmingham were much better than Boro, last weeks game looked like two poor teams cancelling each other out to me.

McDonald did the very same thing with Kendall. And obviously I meant do it on the sly, not have him in the dressing room, again, which is what happened with Kendall.

Sack Blackwell

but with a contingency plan.. otherwise you end up with a Robson scenario and we couldnt go through that again

I get the impression Speed is being lined up to take over eventually

So do I.

you're forgetting the "as its looking like we might."

Still it's glad to see you're still spouting the same ridiculous shite that you peddled on BU.

Blackwell is told who is getting sold, and thats about as far as his involvement goes. Do you really think that if it was 'budget no object' and we were in the PL that BT or the Kyles would have gone..?

Gentlemen... I have no problem with you disagreeing with each other, but there is a way to do it.

If you have no other argument than someone else's opinion being "shite", "bull shit" or "stupid" or by seeking to belittle them, then I really don't think this forum is the one you were looking for.

However, if you wish to have a grown up discussion, please find a more pleasant way to disagree. It helps to keep things relaxed around here.

Many thanks.

You beat me to it. I don't think this is a place to continue the usless bickering that occurred on BU. Start a fresh would be a good thing, it's half the reason why a lot of us on here like it, it wasn't like BU!

Disagree entirely that Brum were better than Boro at this stage last season. Apart from up front maybe, but the wingers in particular were immeasurably better last weekend, and the central defence alone is worthy of a top 10 Prem club.

I guess that's true. Hence he acquiesces - passively. The point is he can clearly live with it.

I don't know. The Kyles deal was not about money according to Mr McCabe.

'i'm glad' or 'it's good.'

i came back from holiday at midnight to find my flatmates having a party. needless to see i joined in wholeheartedly, and my grammar, typing and working ability have suffered somewhat as a result.:D

Anyhow, your original idea is still bonkers. How much good did it do Mike Ashley sitting in the stands with the fans?

Presumedly this new guy won't be appointed in secret, in which case he'll have to listen to a bunch of know-nowts rambling on about how crap monty is.

Still, I'M glad to know this board isn't full of clappers. IT'S good to know that there'll be difference of opinion.

There is, doesn't mean we have to fall out about it though :)

I do think Speed is being lined up for the job. As someone who sits behind the home dug out, I've noticed that increasingly, KB chooses to consult with Speed as to what's going on and Speed is also getting more vocal with the players himself.

My only concern would be that he would take over under the same terms as Blackwell as far as control of player sales goes. You need a manager strong enough to stand up to their Chairman when it is right to do so.

Apologies Linz. See my last post regarding last nights events. The beer has obviously addled my ability to be civil as well.

What McCabe should do is drag him in his office and tell him to stop falling out with players and sticking yes men on the pitch who are shit.

tell him he may manage Sheffield united but his job is to get the result and give blades fans the football they deserve not be a ego maniac who throws away chances by not playing the strongest team just to prove he’s the boss.

Tell him to take responsibility for losses and protect his players no go around blaming them but try encouraging them.

Tell him that if he wants to sell a player its not the best way to have a public fall out then never play them so every one forgets who they are.

Tell him to go and watch some passing football so he knows what every one else means when they say things like 1 2s.

Tell him to learn about other tactics bar blast it in to orbit and hope hendo wins the ball.

tell him to go to spec savers and get some glasses as he seems to be the only one who cant see when some ones having an off game.

explain that making subs in the last ten minutes isn’t going to have a drastic effect on the out come of the match and should try to give the sub 20 mins minimum.

Or just sack him and get a manager who already knows all this

I'm not sure all chairman feel the same!

Kendall watched United covertly for weeks whilst scouting for players to bring in. I'm not suggesting we have *for example* David O'Leary leaping up every five minutes with his back to the pitch shouting "OH SHEFFFIIIIIELLLLLD".

As for your prime example, a good manager wouldve noted Monty's strengths and weaknesses and picked him on them accordingly. An absolutely class-but-knackered-legged passer of the ball (ala Cowans) would work brilliantly with NM.

We tried that in 2004 after Brown was sold, pairing McCall with Monty. Didn't work very well. Mind you, Cowans was a better player than McCall by then.

Never rated robson great player shit manager look how much he spent at boro then had to be baby sat by tel.
God knows why he was picked.
But I can think of dozens that can manage better than Blackwell

Or for a quick answer like Bassett
