Before anyone starts even mentioning him leaving.

I'm a great fan of Clough, I think he reads the game well and knows the game inside out. However, what can he do? No manager can achieve greatness with one (or two) hands tied behind his back. He wanted Freeman and Bennett - we got neither. He wanted 3 on TDD - he got none of them. Clough identified what me wanted for promotion and it wasn't given to him.

Many people complaining about our 'negative' approach to games. What do you expect? We can't play expansive football if we don't have expansive players. It doesn't help that we get threads such as 'do we need loans', which is probably the same thought as our beloved board.

I think it's a crying shame for Clough, as we finally have a great, likeable manager and the club have not delivered the backing to provide him with success. It's dark days for our club at the moment. This is not a knee-jerk post, to today's result, just pre-empting a growing 'Clough out' brigade starting to slag him off for not having us in the top 2.

Not good enough from our club, a shame for Clough and a greater shame for us suckers who turn up week in week out.

Clough is a good manager, time to give him bit more time. remember last season he almost got the playoffs.

Not sure he is being backed properly or whether the negotiator is not doing enough to convince players to join.

did the Prince tell Clough to fuck off having a go today?

You don't think Clough has made mistakes this season then ? I would question the wisdom of putting yet another defender straight into the team who has played very few games and knows little about his team mates, especially in a local game where the opposition treat it as their cup final. I've said it before and I'll say it again everything this club does is a reaction rather than an action.

No, but you can't say that about any manager. Do you think Cotteril has made mistakes? Yes, but he's got the team to cover those errors up. A manager is only as good as his players.

He threw Paddy in the team and he has barely been here 5 minutes.

Clough has made mistakes too especially with the Butler nonsense to begin which has lead to us getting Paddy. Although you could argue Paddy is a better option than Butler.

Clough is being asked to do the job on the cheap, which is not easy to do. We have recruited on the basis of quantity not quality, with the possible exception of Wallace who seems to still be struggling with fitness. I'm not advocating that we spend millions of pounds because that's not necessary in this division, nor would expensive players be prepared to play in this division, but we do need to sign consistent players in several positions to be able to get out of the damned division.
We also need to do it quickly ! :(

i don't agree about clough having one hand tied behind his back..
he has both hands tied behind his back

Just one hand tied behind his back.

He has brought in more than enough players the summer.

2 hands would be not being able to sign anyone at all.

Personally I think the board is tight, but Clough is tighter ("their money is my money").

Chesterfield, MK Dons, Swindon, Peterbrough hardly have any money to spend, yet they manage to unearth talent; the current position is as much to do with Clough buying poorly as it is funds not being available. Nobody can tell me Basham, Higgdon & McNulty (so far) are good signings. And, wasn't it Clough who resigned Porter!!

I don't want Clough to leave - I think he is as good as we'll get for the foreseeable future.
However - you can't absolve him from blame completely. He had the whole summer to get "his" players in, and he did - lots of them. Enough for a whole team. The club have indicated that they gave him the funds he asked for.
I think he's spread the money too thinly, buying several squad players rather than the 2-3 of genuine quality that we actually needed. None of the new guys (except possibly Alcock) have performed well over a few games yet.
The Butler episode hints at problems behind the scenes as well.

The thing is blader the majority of the team is now made up of Clough's signings I put at least two results against us this season down to poor team selection and tactics. A year on and we are still looking for a decent striker we have no real goal threat in the team which limits the tactics to being over cautious or even defensive as we know if we concede the chances of us winning are very slim unless a team folds like Colchester did.
Jim Phipps says money is available so why haven't we addressed the problems up front and to a lesser extent in defence ?
Three possibilities ....
1/ we don't actually have money to spend.
2/ we have money but Clough can't find a decent striker
3/ we have found a very good striker who will be joining us in 2 weeks ;)
I really do hope it isn't option 3 which in my view is one hell of a gamble, by the time he gets match fit we might well have no hope of catching up to Bristol City and the rest of the pack.

Who ever is to blame is to a degree immaterial.

While ever you have defenders that can't do the job, then any team will have a problem - just look at L'pool compared with last.

Our inconsistent form in the league is TOTALLY down to the poor pre-season we had.

We were ABYSMIL in pre-season, and that is being replicated in our league form.

Now, Mr Clough - it is time to start proving what a good manager you are, but as a supporter I am absolutely fed up with the constant changing of the team.

We ARE the BIGGEST team in this division - stop pissing around with fucking "little" clubs and make us as though we actually look like the biggest club in the division. Make teams EARN the right to beat us, not roll over and be pathetic like today.

I wish you a genuine, Good luck................

Butler was ours though.

Clough said he's not been refused anything, the board have said the same.
Stop trying to find fallguys for what is just a bad result. If you want to blame someone then you have to include Clough unless it's an agenda you have rather than a discussion point.

So when he said publicly he gave the board 3 players on TDD, and we got none of them, likewise for Freeman and Bennett, how is that 'not being refused' anything?

Judge us after 10 games

Didn't Clough pull the plug on the Freeman deal due to his demands? Derby wouldn't let us have Bennett without Freeman. Who knows why we didn't get the 3 on deadline day? Not sure as the reasons have been publicised.

Yet Bennet was loaned out elsewhere a few weeks later ???
