Agreed. Spoke to a couple of my Wednesday mates last night. We talk about football a lot and we don't resign ourselves to taking the piss, or slagging off each other's club. It's always very mature, respectful conversation. However, they both agreed that Adkins isn't that good a manager and has been lucky everywhere he's gone as he's had ready made great squads. Apparently, I'm going to find that out for myself this year that he's not the manager everyone thinks he is.

I couldn't help but think that there could have been a hint of envy there perhaps. Time will tell.

I am genuinely excited by the prospect of next season.

Really? Sure he didn't start with bad squads but with Scunthorpe he took them back to the Championship and surpassed Saint's expectations with a 2nd promotion. Anyone else have anymore to say on it?

Think your pal was talking out of the wrong end to be honest However even if true, Adkins has a very capable squad and I don't think he needs to buy much in the window. Quality over quantity this time.

I was surprised when my mate said that. I know he didn't inherit a team of galacticos at Scunthorpe but that's still some achievement to do what he did. Again, at Southampton, he may have had some genuinely talented players coming through the ranks but its another thing altogether to get them back to back promotions to the PL and steady them in the PL as well.

Agree, a few quality signings and we can do really really well this year. Can't wait for the season to start now!

Very impressed with Adkins defensive record at Soton. 20 clean sheets in League 1 promotion season (club record) and 18 the following season.
Compare this to our pitiful 10 from last year and you can see one of Adkins' strengths. I imagine a fair chunk of the budget will go on strengthening the defence.
