I hate when people write us short hand as Sheff U or Sheffield U...

It's Sheff Utd or Sheffield Utd end of.

(it also pisses me off when people write Sheff Weds... Its WED)

The fact that with all the carp we get bombarded with regarding premiership milestones and stats, the fact that the first ever PL goal was scored by Brian Deane (Sheffield United) hardly ever gets a mention.

You can bet your life that if Shearer or Cantona had scored it we would never hear the last of it.

Living abroad, when asked who I support, having to give the answer "Sheffield United", followed by "You won't have heard of them".

:^(

Or a variation on the theme '' For my sins Sheffield United''
I blame my dad he took me to Bramall Lane in the fifties and I have been going there since - no option
My son will probably say the same!!

As a general Sheffield point - we have the Worlds 1st and 2nd oldest football Clubs, and the Worlds oldest football ground. How many people outside of Sheffield have heard of Sheffield FC, Hallam FC and Sandygate Road?!
Sheffielders really are crap at marketing ourselves.

It does get a mention but usually after they state, "the former Leeds, Benfica and Boro player,....."

The fact that I still care and waste time trying to find out what's going on when I have more important things to do.

It's a fecking disease - like an annoying itch that you keep scratching but it still irritates.

How I have to end every football conversation with " could be worse you could be a blade like me " gets a laugh thaT one

Another one I've remembered.

When I say I'm a Sheffield United fan, and someone is a generic Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc fan and the conversation goes as follows:

'I support Sheffield United'
'Oh ye, Neil Warnock'.

What the f*** am I supposed to respond to that?

You always hope they respond with: "Well nevermind... at least you're not a Wednesday fan."

Any other football club fan that can slag off Wednesday as well is alright with me.

What annoys me is when people say Sheffield united as Sheffield. For example they go "You support Sheffield don't?"
And then I tell them that Sheffield FC is a different team and that they are the first football club ever in the world and that I support United.

Another is when people say Manchester is the home of football and THAT'S BULLSHIT because Sheffield FC is the first football club ever and they created the first rule book.

AND THAT THEY DON'T UPDATE US ON THE MANAGER INTERVIEWS ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sir Neil to you

The old myth that Fatty Foulke died in poverty and was reduced in his last years to saving shots on Blackpool beach continues to do the rounds - most recently in Hunter Davies' column in the New Statesman.

That is also in Wilson's book, and is particularly poor given that it is supposed to be a work specifically about keepers. Wilson does not list Graham Pythian's book on Foulke in his bibliography, and given he wrote 10 pages on Foulke he should have read it.

I just looked on Wikipedia to find out what really happened to Fatty Foulke and it says he was inadvertently responsible for the introduction of ball boys. I hadn't heard that before, is it true?

"He was, however, a great crowd puller, and Chelsea decided to exploit this. To draw even more attention to his size, they placed two small boys behind his goal in an effort to distract the opposition even more. The boys would sometimes run and return the ball when it went out of play, and quite by accident, ball boys came into being"

"Ah yes, those were the days" as a wistful look of joyous rememberance crosses your face.
"I fear we shall never see their like again" as a single tear rolls unchallenged down your waxy cheek.

Sloppy research re United. A small gripe, but 3 examples:

1. I have read 2 books in the last 2 years that assert that Mick Jones was a Leeds player when he made his England debut, which annoys me more than it should.

2. Jonathan Wilson describes Ernest Needham as a United goalkeeper in the first chapter of his new book, and the section on Fatty Foulke appears to contain a number of mistakes.

3. "Bramhall Lane"

From Wiki

Jones scored 63 goals in 149 appearances for the Blades and had earned two caps for England when he joined Leeds United in September 1967 for £100,000, prompting the Sheffield United manager, John Harris to remark "it would be the biggest mistake the club had ever made".

"But by no means the last!"

I get the West Ham thing same as Walthy, tedious to say the least. The 'United' thing really grates.

And being constantly asked by Spurs fans if we've got anymore decent academy players like Walker and Naughton they can have! Now, where's that twat thread?

To which you state - yes a few new lads coming through - Doyle, McMahon, KMac, Flynn, hill, Williams... Just make an offer

Well he was our most successful manager of the last 15-20 years....
