yep thats how I remembered it, game near end of season - he was on loan I think.
He was part of the 4 player deal with Birmingham. We got Kennedy on loan and Kuhl permanently. They got Tomlinson on loan and Wigley permanently.

He scored the winner for Birmingham when we lost 1-0 there towards the end of the following season, a serious setback in our relegation battle.

Kuhl took over the captaincy for a while? Always liked Tomlinson, but think that's cos he was reserve keeper when I was first going to reserve games in the early 80s.

Kuhl was captain that year and the following year. He and Stancliffe both did it for spells.

My main memory of Tomlinson is the first thing he did on his home debut - save a penalty at the Kop end when we beat Southend 5-0.
