There maybe trouble ahead

i also studied Mathematics to degree level. until it is mathematically impossible i won't give up. weird stuff happens in the Championship

super_pig - I’m sorry mate, but I was wondering how long it’d be before we got the first “it’s still mathematically possible” post. Reminds me of a poster that used to drive me to distraction with his insane optimism in the face of all evidence, Duncan bloody Disorderly. You’d better bookmark me as well, because I don’t think there’s any chance of us getting in the play-offs this season. I think we’ll be 10th after today’s fixtures - and I don’t see the big recovery coming.

We've won four out of the last 15 or 16 games.
That's a large chunk of games and that is relegation form.
And that performance tonight was of a team that would struggle to stay in this league over a full season.

I’m lost in admiration at your ability to use the word “we” in the shit that you write - let’s be perfectly clear, you are not one of us, so please go away Len

My concern is the players might actually be trying to do what Wilder tells them but know its not working anymore in the final third. He said as much in an interview after the Bolton home game when someone asked him if we are overplaying it a bit out wide with poor final balls and he said the problem was not overplaying but we needed to be more patient??? More patient ffs.

Only heard it on the radio last night but uncle Keith was again basically saying the same stuff about us in the final third lacking movement, urgency, anticipation, intelligence and enough numbers and midfielders who can shoot.

Difficult to know how the ownership situation will resolve itself. If Kev is going nowhere he'll probably protect Wilder and we may well struggle next season but if ownership changes our current defensive bias and inability to create effective attacking playing might be too much for a new owner.

Ex defenders who become managers tend to put emphasis on defence and don't understand attack so well or put enough emphasis on it and vice versa. Think of Keegan for an example of the opposite, all attack and no defence.

Maybe so, but the main problem last night was caused by a overwhelming number of individual errors which were quite alien to the players usual level of performance.
How can you explain players of the ability of Fleck making quite so many mis-controls and mis-passes after his performances to date and he was by no means the only one.
If all the players had been playing to the same standard all season, then maybe you'd have a point, but last night everyone was so far below par it was embarrassing
(apart from Blackman and Stearman - imo :(

Wanking at 10am, have you no shame :D

It was 8.30am actually ;)

Went straight there after I got the car washed. Pigs are at home so wanted to be in and out quick. And no, I have no shame at all :)

I agree last night was a standout shocking performance with only the keeper doing his job but the results over the last three months don't lie.
Wilder's interview sounded like a man who finally had to vent after a lot of frustration, including the inability to properly strengthen in the transfer window.

if you are two points behind with one game to go then it's all to play for.. if not. why bother?
this is going to be good innit? :D
btw.. there are 13 .. THIRTEEN. games left. that is a possible 39 points;)

I've noticed comments on this thread that amount to little more than surrender where the squad are concerned. It seems that one, let me repeat, one, dismal performance and it qualifies as a critique of the whole season's performance.

Tonight was awful and disappointing, but it doesn't mean that the standards we've shown are redundant or worth abandoning. It's all about mind-set and personal pride. I've no doubt better players are needed, but if Wilder isn't given budgets that enable him to buy these types of players how exactly do we bring them to the Blades? There's only so much we can expect if we don't improve the resources the manager has to work with. Clearly it's all about new investment, and just to ensure that there's no confusion, that means that new owners will want to invest heavily, rather than make token efforts at convincing the supporters that a page has been turned.

Im surprised at people criticism at wilder. Because under adkins & at times clough like many other managers i hear received alot of flack for media trained answers & trying spin history. So im glad he's been honest. I doubt hes doing a jose from his 1st spell at Chelsea, Inter Milan & Real Madrid. Because that blaming others. This was right at the door of the players. But was still nicer than in dressing room

I agree overachievement can be negative. Because expections changed ie ranieri at Leicester. We have got to remember what we expected at start of the season i thought 14th was being generous. If im being honest i think we will get 8th, But reading away cant come quicker for both fans & players because this has been shocking. Made worse that it was against adkins with our history with him. But like man city & cup final. 6 pts from reading & burton this will be distant memory in 7 days time

Don't have any particular problem with supporters of other teams coming on here (even Wednesday), provided it's rarely and they're here for a genuine conversation and not just on the wind up. What's really boring is having to wade through threads and posts by posters who are blatantly fans of other teams pretending to be Blades, especially repeat offenders like this. Get a life and get off our forum.

And that's the funny/worrying thing about last night we were shit, but they weren't much better. We've not been out fought/played/thought by a bunch of Warnock style battlers, we've lost a game tepid game against a tepid side. In the past, performances like that under CW have lasted no longer than 20 minutes, a half at most and either come at the end of a game or are rectified at HT. Last nights was near enough the full 90. That's the worrying thing; the players either didn't listen to what was said before ko & at halftime, chose to ignore what was said or were incapable of doing what was said.

It might be that CW has been saying things to the players privately that he hasn't been in public and that last night was the straw that broke the camels back for him. He's no idiot and there have been times recently where i've thought he was more generous with his comments than what i'd have been. It might have been a case of "I'll back you 100% to the press as long as I believe that you leave nothing out there". Something might have happened post match in the dressing room, where he's just thought "fuck you". He's also started to mention the names and money of opposition players recently, so his comments might be intended for boardroom level.

Does make you wonder apart from all the take over crap going on if there isn't something else going on behind the scenes that's unsettling the team and the manager.

I think a performance like that from any team CW managed would create frustration.
Whatever did or didn't happen in the transfer window was probably irrelevant last night. The players made so many unforced errors and bad choices that no manager could have remained calm :(

You're wrong.

We've only dropped one place and that's only on goal difference :)

That’s why I gave up betting on football ages ago - my predictions are toss. Perhaps it’s the reverse jinx we need - I will keep believing we won’t make the playoffs

It certainly is.

Long way to go yet and i haven't got a clue what's going to happen but whatever does happen I'm determined to enjoy it.
