Crewe away when they hadn’t won at home for about a year, or Burton at home under Adkins.
Yes the Burton game for me. The whole team looked completely clueless. No one seemed to know where they were playing or what the formation was or what they were supposed to be doing. Quite clear to me Adkins was completely useless.
But as I have said before when Clough was sacked and Madkins appointed CW was not available so if we did not have Madkins we would have someone else who might not have been quite so useless so in May 2016 we might not have been looking for a replacement and CW would have gone to Charlton. So ironically the fact we had Adkins for a season meant we could get CW when we did.

The thing I remember about the Burton game was, bearing in mind we were losing 1-0, the fourth official held the sign up for 6 added minutes and everyone booed.

All of the above and....

Doncaster away towards the end of the Adkins season. Won a dire game 1-0 and then got back to the car to hear Adkins talk about a battling, gritty away performance. We were absolute dog dirt that day, either team could have won 1-0 and whilst it wasn't still mathematically impossible we could make the playoffs I just felt we were being conned in to thinking this level of performance was ok.

Scunny away. Think it was the second Clough season and Scunthorpe played in green (something to do with an Irish connection or a weird dream?). We drew and as the players came to thank the supporters we sang "what the ****ing hell was that". Half arsed performance and as with Adkins, Clough tried to tell us this was ok.

This is like therapy as I'd buried this deep within my subconscious

shrewsbury was dreadful the most toxic mood ive ever heard at bramall lane. we made a newly promoted front 3 who had lost 4 of last 5 look like barcas front 3 of Messi Neymar & Suarez. it could easily have got embarrassing 2 of the 4 scorers played last season for cleethorpes town & Chorley can you believe basham & sharp were in that game

but mention for fleetwood at home. 3-1 defeat. they treated us like a cup final it was like us going to Old Trafford. it was record attendance for them at the time. population of fleetwood couldve fit inside. we were playing Burnley in 09 play off final they were they were playing matlock town & it was as David & Golaith as you could get outside of the fa cup. we got outfought & outbattled

Just as an aside Mrs NYB says that in one of the ladies toilets on John Street there is a sticker with 'Ryan Flynn is a babe'. Now I'm not criticising the cleaners, but how long has Flynn been gone!

Is it next to the "Dean Saunders is well fit" one?

My last away league game I announced my retirement from away games that day, I think it was about 11:40pm just outside Chesterfield in a mini bus managing about 5mph in a blizzard.

Yep. I think 11:40pm was pretty much the time I decided to abandon my car half way up the long hill on the Dronfield by-pass and start walking. We played shite, too. Hideous memries.

2-4 Shrewsbury
1-4 in that game. We'd had a free kick just after half time and it hit the wall. Shrewsbury ran up the pitch with Dean Hammond and mceverley chasing back and getting no where near there players.

as the blades we waiting to kick off the chant of "you're not fit to wear the shirt started

Matt Done looked scared stiff. That team were shit

I’ll try some not already said.

Burnley play off final. With the team we had, to put in a such nothing display was painful. The start of the big decline.

Paddy Kenny leaving. When I started paddy was Mr Sheffield United. Remember him having a quote next to the shop saying something along the lines of loving the club. He wasn’t ever a player I’d imagine stabbing us in the back and it really closed the book on a relatively successful period for us which I still had hope we would get back to.

That game for me too. Bury away was bad also but at The Lane, up against Clough, not only did we not register a shot on target we failed to register any presence at all on the football pitch. Truly dire performance.

One thing from that night, Burton had a little tricky winger but instead of playing him on the wing they were playing him in a free role behind Beavon. Tore us to shreds and was the main reason we hardly touched the ball. I said to my Dad I wished we'd signed that Duffy when he was at Scunny. He was class.

And here we are.
What I love about Duffy is that he stated out in non league and now he will be in the premier league. Vauxhall Motors and Prescott Cables to the top tier.

Wilder has signed Carruthers, Holmes, Leonard, Woodburn and Dowell and he's pretty much seen them all off. He's one of my favourite players in 40 years watching the blades.

1.00 am I got home that night / morning... about as close to giving it all up as I’ve ever come.

Weir’s last game against Hartlepool, Boxing Day defeat to Hartlepool when we were top of League 1 and they were bottom with 9 points from 23 games.
That’s where Wilder is different, positive mental attitude all the way
