I would have no problem with one good signing and perhaps 3 good loans. Permanent signings in January tend to be over-priced, not ready for 1st team action, potentially disruptive if paid more than other squad members, and a burden for some time to come. Jordan Rhodes, anyone?

I think CM is the one area where we're light. If Freeman is out for longer than expected then we could do with a loaned fullback to cover that position. Apart from that a bit of pace upfront would be good and again, a loan player is more realistic than us signing a pacey, quality striker permanently.

If we got Leonard and signed a 'Tammy Abraham' and a 'Joe Riley' (full back who can cover both sides), kept Brooks, I'd be happy with that.

And our league position.

And the fact we were bidding £2m+ for Coady (and Egan?) in August.

Tbh those ‘bids’ passed me by a bit as ‘crazy talk’...dunno what was going on there...

Devante Cole good enough for the prem if we go up? Unlikely, so a 3/4 year contract would be a waste.

Loans with a view to a perm sound ok to me.

That’s plain daft.

You buy players to get you out the league you’re in ( as we did last year with Hanson etc)

Worry about who’s good enough for the Prem when you’ve got a two hundred million quid in yer back pocket.

Might get some more in if we can ship some out first. Might being the operative word.

The biggest pistake is that it will all happen in the last 12 hours of the window.

The transfer window is a joke and shouldnt exist in my view. No other business suffers in the same way as having a short time to buy and sell.

If we sign a player on loan who rattles the goals in, we won’t be able to buy him as his value will skyrocket. Tammy Abraham is the recent example.

If we’re serious about building, then we need to buy promising players from below. Borrowing from above should only be to fill in some gaps.

I see what you mean but first options to buy can surely be agreed

hmm, you say plain daft? Ok we sign 3/4/5/6 players all permanent 3 or 4 year contracts and guess what.... we don't go up and we are stuck with a bloated squad all on long term contracts that we cannot afford to pay.

Not so daft if you ask me

Only the Wendies would take an approach like that

So we can't even afford 200k for Devante Cole then? What a club.
Hope to god that's simply because we aren't interested in a player who has scored 8 goals in 22 games in a lower league.

If we sign a player on loan who rattles the goals in, we won’t be able to buy him as his value will skyrocket.
Unless we take him on loan with a pre agreed fee if we want him.
Mooy was the mastermind behind Huddersfield getting promoted and only cost them 8million once they were up.

At best you're scaremongering...unless of course you believe Wilder has been reckless in his transfer dealings so far?

Stop panicking! there's no way CW is going to lay all his JTW plans out on the table to Giddings, why would he?

January loans can be made with full transfers completed in the summer, (ala Jordan Rhodes) and get you around FFP in the short term.

Disappointed. Thought this might be another thread about Emma Louise Jones! I might bump that one actually , I’m bored as fuck. :) #whooorchest

I doubt if Cole is good enough for the Championship. And 'if we go up to the prem.?'

People think Abraham just 'goes out on loan' and expect his wages to be 'a bit high'. When he went to Bristol City, Chelsea got a 'loan fee' of £1m and he was on £50k a week. I'd imagine those sums have increased now he's at Swansea in the PL.

How longs Cole got left on his contract??? Be nice as a freebie at end of season wouldn't he...

Also true. Which makes me think gambling on a couple of lower league strikers makes good sense.

They can't expect Wilder to keep performing miracles at this level on three thirds of fuck all.

Maybe, just maybe, the best players available (the ones that Wilder actually wants, not the ones everyone on here wants) are only available on loan?
Quality loans cost substantial money as well, we’ve got to trust he is pursuing the right people for the right positions.

We don’t want people from the lower divisions who might not step up but end up here on longer contracts.

We also don’t want to be dancing to the tunes of the likes of Ron Martin who might think he’ll squeeze a few extra quid on 31 January.

We need the squad refreshing sooner rather than later. The January window is always difficult.
