The strongest League One for many years...

I agree.

We've got the best team that we've had in this league by some distance and we're still not home and hosed.

No one is running away at all and the push for play off places is very competitive.

I think that all adds up to a sure sign that there are more teams of equal standard than we have seen recently.

Whether that makes it better or not is open to conjecture, it could be because there are a lot of poorer teams in the league but based on where we are I would say that's not the case.

So on balance I agree, even if Harris is only trying to protect his own position should Milwall fail to make the play offs.

Its hard to judge what is a strong league, you have to play and beat what is put in front of you and make sure we are the team to be feared, this year we have done that, there have been bigger teams in previous years, but as we all know it is not the size of the team, look at Fleetwood, Burton and so on, personally its just an other year in this league the difference is we have in place a management team that can approach the games and teams in the best way.

It is for the others who are having to compare themselves to us. There's not been a team like us in this division for many years ;)

Got to agree.

We've not seen any teams better than the current Sheff Utd team for years.
We're certainly better than the Wolves, Wigan and Bristol C teams that were recently promoted.

However at the top end it's not as good as our first season down here when there was us, Charlton, Wednesday and Huddersfield, even that Huddersfield side that finished 4th was impressive.

If Millwall, Charlton, Peterborough and MK Dons had performed close to expectations then it undoubtedly would've been the strongest for a long time.

Might have been different if we weren't so good?

I'd say, since we have been down here, in order of 'league strength'

1. 2011/12
2. 2016/17
3. 2014/15
4. 2013/14
5. 2015/16
6. 2012/13

Based on nowt but my opinion.

I'd say those three were efficient rather than impressive. Pigs looked OK with Antonio (can't bring myself to say good) but Charlton and Huddersfield really ground results out. I think this season it is a strong league and we've had to work really hard to beat most teams. I can't think of many where we've come away thinking 'that was straightforward'.
It's a bit deceptive because there are a couple of teams that are being well funded by their owners, Scunty and Fleetwood, so it looks like a 'little club doing well' scenario when it's not really. They're more like Bournemouth than Yeovil or Burton.

Perspective and respect.

If you're top of the league, its a piece of piss.... ooops i mean, its a tough league and we take it one game at a time

If you're just outside the playoffs, then i guess you want to tell your fans that its been a hell of a tough season

I think the top 6-8 aren't too dissimilar, at least this year we have more teams competing against us, rather than just putting 11 men behind the ball.

But below that, the league is just as shite as ever

I think it's got worse in quality since we've been here and this year the teams below ( and at times above us)have been very inconsistent

Not sure where we would rank in a top ten of teams promoted since then but this side is definitely my favourite

Comparing It's certainly stronger than last year but not as strong as the year Wolves won it which was the strongest it was since we came down. This year is on a par with our first season here

The weakest year was the one when Donny won the title when we were top at Xmas before McCabe sold us out in the January transfer window, we should really have gone up that season.

Well I'd say this is the best team we've had in the 6 years down here, and there's never an easy game...The first season we were down here, teams we came up against were surprisingly decent in terms of most of them played football, but lacked in the final 3rd...There was the odd team like the S6 Hoofers though who were the exception to the rule and were more ugly and physical...I think I agree with Harris, and it is a hard league to get out of.

Oh hai Porktalkers :D

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say thankyou for reminding us that your squad that went up (pretty much by default) in 2012 is so much better than our current one (as apparently the entirety of the league in that season was by all accounts). I'd forgotten that you had such fantastic key players as Nile Ranger, Mark Beevers, Gary Madine, Ryan Lowe and more. Those same players who are propping up teams below us; granted they're older, but for the majority they're still in their prime.

Indeed, I'd forgotten that our first 11 was so much better than the one we have now. After all, I pine each night for the likes of Michael Doyle, Lecsinel Jean-François, Matt Hill and Steve fucking Simonsen.

Meanwhile, as we look to the present Championship we see clubs who have spent an absolute fortune struggling to get by. Barnsley, Preston and yes... Huddersfield (like yourselves) have spent upwards of 20 million to make a fist of survival, only to find that they're relegated by the end of March :(

If it weren't for all the above, I'd think that you were trying to make yourselves feel better about our potential promotion, while you're playing below expectations and have somehow lucked your way into staying in the top 6. But that's not true, because you've invested in proven quality on the pitch and in the dugout and as such you've got a brilliant insight into what guarantees promotion in the Championship.

So, good luck with your nailed on promotion. In the unlikely event that we get promoted, we'll know our place next season and look forward to the inevitable relegation scrap.

Godspeed everyone.

It's a lot more competitive this season imo. However I'm not suggesting it's the strongest it's been. I don't think you can give an answer to that one.

Yep. Agree with this. Since we've down here, every season has seen a handful of reasonable teams sitting on top of a load of rubbish. Looks little different to me this year, in outline, than the previous five.

The Pigs completely disagree, in fact if we can't get out of the weakest League 1 for many years we are completely and utterly shit....according to the massive.

To be honest, I don't think it is as strong as the year Ched fucked it up but apart from that, probably..

Is it tho because the team we had with Ched wasn't as good as this current side, so in effect the league looked stronger?

I personally don't think things have changed a great deal in competitiveness now than it was back in Cheds day. I just think the division gives the impression of being weaker now because our squad has been so strong

It's very difficult to quantify, but as with all things in the subject of pigonometry and the wendies, it just has to be a weaker division all because we sit at the top of it

The Crazy world of football , shows that Nigel Adkins teams Saints/Scunny were quite , good at one time , in our Division , what went wrong ,i wonder if CW really is Superman .?

its total myth from deluded owls thinking ther standards dropped, its as tough as its ever been to get out of
teams like oxford rochdale walsall wimbledon give championship sides a run fr their money any day

wednesday were terrible in this league the season before they went up and nearly went down to div 2

if it was so bad the 3 relegated clubs would be near the top every year
Charlton and MK Dons are finding it very difficult to cope with it
Coventry would argue its very tough, just now
Blackpool dropped through it like a brick, got less wins than they did in the championship

not sure its much different, tho the year Wolves were here was strong, ditto when Bristol C won the league, but its probably a much of a muchness to previous years, but fortunately, we are much better

We've not seen any teams better than the current Sheff Utd team for years.
We're certainly better than the Wolves, Wigan and Bristol C teams that were recently promoted.

We'll not get as many points as Wolves or Bristol City did.
