The Stir AGAIN!

It's like the telly .......................... yer don't have to watch it !

That's not even journalism, it's somebody with a slight opinion on something he knows nothing about trying to stir up people. The outraged class of British society getting outraged to fuel their sense of inadaqaucy.
He will no doubt send this piece with his CV to the Daily Mail.

I never heard anyone on 9 or 35 minutes and even if someone did clap he wouldn't of heard it as he has probably never been to a football match...

It is utter bollocks.....

Read that for a hatchet job. If anybody believes that quote from anonymous Bladette I'll stand hanging.

I was about to suggest that you should leave The Stir alone pup, but then I read the article. It's pretty shocking and seems to be based on the non-existent applauding of Ched. At least, we were on The Kop, watched the clock at 9 and 35 minutes and heard absolutely nothing at all, Rodley seems to agree.

It's not a news article, it's editorial. It's badly written, doesn't know the difference between disprove and disapprove and lost all credibility with a mention of Voltaire.

There were some Ched chants in the 35th minute in the Kop - back left if you're looking from any other stand, back right if you're sat in it.

I think they managed a chorus of "Super Ched Evans" before being told to shut the f*ck up and then drowned out.

You probably couldn't hear them though if you were more than a few rows away.

The answer is simple. Boycott the Star and Radio Sheffield. In the case of the Star, much reduced circulation will have a detrimental effect on the advertising revenue, causing either a change of personnel or policy or decline into closure. As for the Radio "station", similar significant reductions in listeners would see similar changes, particularly in a period where the BBC are looking for cost savings by the reduction in local programmes by the regionalisation of programmes.

If we do collectively make the boycots happen, it might be a good idea to make it publicly known via a mention to their rivals, Calendar. They would love that. A local news scoop!

I think its time for Sheffield United to take a stand against these 2 operations too. Let them become Radio half of Sheffield and the Wendy weekly. Would love to see Foster Walker Bennet Shields Smith and all the rest of them scraping for employment. They could even enlarge the comedy club ,and make it even less funny than it already is.

Hopefully The Stir will go tits up when Johnson Press realise it's barely fit for the bottom of a budgie's cage.

Radio Sheffield (Wednesday) is equally inept, has been even more biased against the Blades than The Stir but will probably survive owing to 'the unique way it's funded'. Yeah, by the TV Licence Poll Tax. Like most of the public sector, do you think anybody would employ Foster, Bennett, Staton etc. if they weren't leeching money from the public purse?

And why the fuck have they got a picture (and an extremely crap one) of 'Jess Ennis with Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles' at the top of this 'story'?

Take the Ched stuff out of there and the article is more or less a cut and paste of a Marina Hyde article in the Guardian around the time of the Richard Keys incident.

Infact it just about qualifies as plagarism. If they've not got enough material to fill a daily then go weekly

For the record: i'm boycotting.

Just posed the same question on Twitter: how important to the Club is the local media given the fact we can almost get every snippet of info on the web, plus a much wider variety of viewpoints from forums such as this?

Is there any reason for Utd needing them on our side?

Given the fact that the Star use forums like this to put together 99% of their sports news output its fair to say we don't need them at all.

Am I right in saying that the Star these days is printed in Leeds.
I have had the Green Un sent down from Sheffield, for the last 34 years, but I am seriously thinking of calling it a day as by the time it arrives it is Wednesday and it is history as we now use the internet.
The letters page has virtually ceased and again I think its printed in Leeds.
The only reason I have kept it going these last few years is that it would remove the habit of it arriving.
Used to take a good 30 minutes to read, now probably 5 at the most.
How times have changed, most provincial newspapers will be gone within the next 5 years.
UTB

Its printed in Dinnington but Johnson Press will look to move all other ops to Leeds.

I think the thing to do is to get as many people on this board and others to sign up to comment on the article page and every last one of us point out that no-one clapped. Idea?

Leaving aside the attack on United fans, which may well be a load of bollocks, I think he actually has a point. "Banter" is just rudeness and insulting behaviour masquerading as humour.

Maybe, but the general meaning of a joke is to target an individual or a group of people who we see as inferior to ourselves and portray them as such.
Think Irish,Blonde,Weds,Sexist jokes.
Most of our funniest comedy portrayals are of people we look down on
Think Steptoe, Alf Garnett,David Brent etc.

Banter is generally saying it to peoples faces....
He has no sense of humour..
However I feel that he wasn't refering to banter but some nastiness that never happened(with the clapping) and tried to relate it to Frankie Boyle etc

Why should that be 'left aside' ?

Thought about doing this earlier.

I don't agree.

Orwell (again) defined humour as dignity sitting on a tin tack and the more dignified the sitter the funnier, so an undignified bishop is funnier than an undignified vicar. A lot of the things I find funny deflate the pretensions of the powerful and pompous (think Fawlty Towers, much of Monty Python, Blackadder and David Brent as it happens). I find "humour" about those who people generally think are "inferior" to them not at all funny .

This could have something to do with my political views....

The Star is to journalism that Ricky Gervais is to comedy - complete and utter garbage. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Evans case, there is an appeal pending.

And as such, by looking at someones pretensions getting deflated we can laugh at because we then feel superior in a way.
I think really we both agree Darren.

Sheffield Star Internal Memo [possibly :) ]

Failure to follow these instructions will result in disciplinary action; however additional negatives over and above those noted may result in bonus payments.
