It's often said, and widely regarded as true, that we have one of the better squads in this league, or at least one better than our position suggests. I'd tend to agree with this, but in my eyes the squad hasn't been used properly yet.
I do think tactics/formations matter, but I don't agree that we should stick to 4-4-2 purely because it's tried and tested. Tactics should be built around our best players and trying to get the best out of them. For example, we play a fairly winger orientated formation despite that being one of our weakest areas.
The players I think need to play and have a side built around them are: Miller, McGinn, Baxter, and maybe Coady and Cuvelier as they both clearly have some talent. How this would work is hard to see, maybe 4-3-1-2? CM is one of our strongest areas yet we're playing Doyle and a LB there, so until we bring in some better wingers or get ours more confident, going central may be the answer for now.
