Last nights Morecambe game sounded like a bit of an anticlimax on the radio to be fair but all things said and done had that game been a pre season fixture two games earlier, we would have probably been much more satisfied with it overall and considered it "progress". Last weekends hammering made us sit up and demand a hell of a lot more from the lads and to be fair we would have all like to have seen a more convincing scoreline to make us all feel that bit more comfortable about this season.

This weekends game against Chesterfield seems to have just that bit more significance now. We very much need that morale boosting win in the league to bounce back and show that we are well and truly over last week and the opposition come to us on the back of a late defeat against Carlisle in the Capital One cup which will be a kick in the teeth after a good performance at the weekend. We are both desperate to win this and build some sort of early momentum in the league.

There is only one thing for certain for me about this game and that is the significance of the home fans. We need to turn up in our numbers for this and really get behind the lads. There is no benefit in going down to the lane this weekend and being pessimistic despite last weeks scoreline, it was the first match of the season and it can be made irrelevant if we kick on and put it behind us. Just remember what Norwich did that season after an absolute bum of an opening day performance against Colchester?

But then again I know what our fans are all about. It will only take a goal to get the rafters lifting on BDTBL next week because that is what we are all about. A huge game for us though and a great deal of position mental attitude required to kick start our season in what will probably be a very tough game of football.

Ideally we need that early goal to settle the nerves because at times like this a passionate crowd can also be a double edged sword....
