VIEWSHOREHAM,
loosen up, get a life, talk to a dog, and for FUCK'S sake, realise the humour and meaning behind a New thread!
Only half a case of Beck's!
What the hell's wrong with the other half?
Has Blackwell got Mrs McCabe's mobile number?
constructive argument...
These really are getting more and more cryptic.
I would suggest the secret to a manager's future is to do as the chairman wants.
1. Cut the wage bill. Well, Blackwell has done that.
2. Be nearer the top than the bottom, to give fans (false) hope. Done that too.
So where is this going? I've listed two reasons why Blackwell has a future. the only way he won't at the moment is if he resigns, and there's more chance of plaiting fog.
you agree with me for once lol. i think we need to get rid of him he one of the shittiest managers in the championship. But he is to far up mccabes arse!
I said that Blackwell has been doing what McCabe has asked him to do, and at the moment he's highly unlikely to get the sack for doing what he has been asked to do. If he was indeed "one of the shittiest managers in the championship" then surely after selling off players and suffering from injuries then we'd be down near the bottom, not just outside the playoff places?
He might not be the best manager in the division, but he's a long way away from being "one of the shittiest".
I'm with you on this one SV. Considering that we've 'sold our talent', and (I think I saw somewhere) given 18 players a debut this season, not put out the same side twice etc etc etc, I'd say that the fact we are a win outside the play-offs is remarkable.
One of the things I think doesn't help Blackie is that I don't feel we (the supporters) 'connect' with him in the same way that we could with Warnock, or like some supporters do with their managers. I felt comfortable that I understood when Warnock was bluffing and smokescreening, and he could be read like a book after a while.
Blackie isn't that. He does talk too much now and again, and that is a shame as his media skills aren't exactly 'silky'. Put those together and you get meat and drink for the 'uber-sceptics'. I just see a passionate and dedicated football man whose mouth and brain can sometimes appear to be unconnected.
Still, none of us really know what is going on behind the scenes with the finances but it must have been really difficult to keep the cart on the wheels when the road is that bumpy. I've checked the Valad Property situation, as we know Mr McCabe is firmly geared to them, and the good news is that they do seem to be recovering. Share prices were between $0.04 and $0.07 this time last year, now they are $0.12 and $0.15. They have just secured another $41m in a rights issue to institutional investors that underpins the business.
Mr McCabe does seem to have the gift of good timing. Maybe the big rush in getting cash in and cutting costs is that Mr McCabe has realised that once the General Election is over, the interest rates will start climbing again? Rushing to pay up your debts isn't a bad idea..?
Who knows?
What is amazing is that a thread that started so dismally has developed into a reasoned and sensible discussion. Admittedly there's only two posts that fit the bill, but that's better than nothing.
Has he still got shares in Valad or did the cash payment last year get rid of him?
From what I can see Valad agreed to pay £865m for his 60% share of Scamp Holdings, previously owned by Scarborough Holdings and which also involves a bunch of subsidiary companies. He kept hold of Scarborough and United Scarborough and the other bits of property. He also got a seat on the board in Valad for which he invested AS$100m (£60m or thereabouts). The problem was Valad ran out of cash before they could finish paying the balance. In Jan 2009, the final payment of £37m was converted to a debt for shares deal, so he ended up owning 19.9% of Valad for another £30m. The remaining £7m is to be paid to him in 2012 and is interest bearing.
Now Valad seem to be holding their own as a business and the shares have doubled in value over the last year, it may well end up being a very good deal for him, not in cash terms but in nett worth, not that he's short of a bob. I doubt that there is the pressure that we imagine, and if he's running the club at 'minimum cost' as it appears, there will be another reason...
