The Saudi didn't start the same side that got made to look sunday league by Brighton first half, nor has he played Hamer on the wing, nor has he dictated we kick long to Archer, he also hasn't been that unprepared for one of the biggest matches of the season that he starts one up top and five at the back and decides to soak it up. He may be at fault for the resourcing but the execution is absolutely down to the manager.
…or the players not following instructions and panicking when in possession ?

I see them as another Bolton and Stoke, had a few excellent seasons in the PL until financial problems hit them. The financial backing won't last for more than a a few seasons
Agreed. Their ceiling is about 15th in the PL. I'm not sure where the long term return on investment is for their owners: they're not going to get into Europe, they're not going to win a cup and the absolute best they can hope for in the league is to become another Palace.

And how many do you think we’ll last?
One. What we do in the summer will determine whether we go as we did between 2007 and 2016 or as we did between 2021 and 2023.

We were happy with Hamer, Archer, Souza, Slimane, Traore etc -
Hamer and Archer yes because we knew what they were about but souza, slimane and traore none could've been happy because none knew a thing about them. Townsend and Barkley were available for nothing in the summer and they would've improved us more than slimane and souza for a fraction of what we've reportedly paid for them and come with plenty of premier league experience.

just as a stat for perspective

luton have used 15 players in at least 9 games
sufc have only managed 10 with that many
luton have used 24 players so far
sufc have used 31 different players

To be fair to Bolton and Stoke, both went to cup finals, saw some quality players in their shirts and had European qualification. My Bolton supporting ex-colleague saw them play in Munich.

I’d love to have a bit of that, even if the price is the ensuing decline.

as for us i think this is just the start of some dark dark times for us as its concievable we start next season as amateurish as this one with less money and a skeketon squad
The above is nail on the head!

This squad is obviously light weight. It can't compete at this level.
There's no fight. No passion. No skill. No drive. No desire. No leadership. On or off the pitch. Nothing.
It just lays down and dies.
It is now too used to losing.
It will die in the championship too.
Something has to change.

It's the blades way. It won't change until it's too late.

Bournemouth is just another Bolton/Stoke
I disagree.I think Bolton is more likely to be us, rather than Bournemouth, mate.
Stoke on the other hand, has a very rich owner who cares about the club and it’s fan community, who is also prepared to put his hands in his pocket, which would certainly make that comparison inappropriate, in respect of the Blades,so I won’t make it.Come next season, we may be dreaming we were like Stoke.

We are not like Bolton and Stoke who have been doing silly spending for a few seasons

I’m not sure we can take the high ground when it comes to silly spending mate. You’ve seen Souza, Traore, and Slimane!
Nor can we really reach for the heights when it comes to financial stability, having been hit with a transfer embargo, had to sell our 2 best assets on the eve of the season, reportedly helped by a potential buyer of the club.
We shall have to agree to differ on this one.

I don't think McCabe would have got us in the shit like the prince has done.McCabe would not have gotten into a transfer embargo either.what is your opinion am i wrong or tight?

last season we thought Anel would shine in the PL as Illiman would.

One has so far shown this might not be the case.

As we have found out, beating three men in the championship is considerably easier than in the PL.
He's looked bang average for Marseilles and the French league is way less competitive than the PL. We would be better off with him yes but this isn't the championship you can't afford passengers. Currently we have 11.

Oi!

You can't defend McCabe on here, or the masses will hunt you down. The considered view of our experts, is that he was a wrong 'un and made millions from the club.
Billions.
Squillions, probably.

Stoke epitomizes how the PL has developed. In 1995 Jack Walker won the league for Blackburn with his hard earned. Stoke benefitted from a local owner back in the day but that couldn't last forever. FSG helped Liverpool recover and win trophies but now the fans want change despite transfer outlays of over £350m net. The City & Newcastle models are the latest version making the gulf all the greater. Presumably it will only get worse.

I have been a Blade for 66 years I know McCabe made massive mistakes when He owned the Club, but I did not know he took millions out of the club.so i take your point on him. I am just fed up with the prince for leaving us in the shit no money etc. We are nailed on for relegation so it's not looking good for us.we have to hope some sort of miracle happens to change things.

Ah the degree in hindsights been dusted off I see 🤣

Traore came as an International on a 12 in 14 goalscoring streak
Slimane has 30 caps at 22yrs old, won the league with Brondby and featured in the Champions League
Souza was player of the season for Espanyol, and is part of the City World group

Personally I think all 3 will come good next (EFL) season, all have moved to a new country, new style of play (if we have one!) and in a struggling side
Hojlund has gone to Man U for £64m, and still hasnt scored
Is the question not are they any good, but how long does it take to settle?

Sadly we couldnt afford ready made, so had to gamble, which hasnt paid off so far I agree

As for Townsend and Barkley - were back to the degree in hindsight, had they been linked with us, especially Townsend after Burnley backed out, they'd have been uproar - lack of ambition, old players looking for a last payday - lets go get some exciting young talent from abroad........

No many people were underwhelmed or more "wait and see" with much of our transfer dealings it it was obviously on the cheap and a risk. It hasn't paid off and I have seen little evidence from Scandinavian level signings to suggest they can do a job in the championship either

No one knows. It’s that simple.

He didn’t. End of the day it cost him.

It’s pretty much the same know nowts that accused him of taking money and asset stripping that are saying the same about our current owner.

Traore hasn't got a international cap and I don't think Souza won POTS at Espanyol. Their fans were happy to see him go. That's not to say either won't come good but they were hopeful punts based on potential rather than anything they'd shown. Laurouci and Slimane similarly weren't pulling up tress at their clubs. If they had been then we wouldn't have got them so cheap.

I agree with you that most would have been underwhelmed with Barkley and Townsend but if just one of the 4 lads we brought in from abroad end up shining at Championship level it will be seen as a success.

Must have made up the Souza bit!
Traore has 1 cap, albeit at U23 level - Ivory Coast

I was in hope that we would unearth a gem for this season, but it doesnt look that way, even the ones who on face value are a 'safer bet', Hamer, Archer, McAtee havent really performed in anything other than glimpses

It either the step up is actually bigger than we thought, or were not deploying them correctly - personally id go for a mixture of both - look at Burnley, allegedly tactically astute manager, settled team, rich owners, spent £111m - and their best player from what ive seen is 18yr old Koleosho who came from Espanyol B for £3m, why dont we get them?!

The Coates family still own Stoke and Bet365 and have an estimated worth of 8.6 billion, and are the 27th richest family in the U.K.The family are locally based, sponsor many community projects in the City, and virtually attend every game.
I’d take owners like that, tomorrow, rather than suffer the present owner a minute longer, or any of the people he has tried to sell us to, so far.

Currently sitting 17th in the Championship.

So all those billions haven't amounted to much.
