5 years ago we were all hoping for a second season in the top flight of the Premier League. This was snatched cruelly away from us by on field and off field. Since then, we have had some disastrous seasons. The big money signings of Beattie, Hendrie, Sharp brought hope we could bounce straight back. The manager that year was a problem. He wasnt the right man for the job. Then we saw the Blackwell era and despite playing hoofball we did have some success, almost nicking a play off spot in 07/08 then reaching the final in 08/09. Only to be let down by his stupidly negative tactics and a wonder goal from Burnley.
09/10 was a strange season, we had so many injuries and used around 40 players, the joy for us that season was taking 4 points off Wednesday to help send them down.
I can remember the start of the 10/11 season well, there was positivity around with the signings of Britton and Simonson and then when Evans put us one up at Cardiff the belief was there. Blackwell being sacked after the defeat to QPR was unfair, QPR beat a lot of teams by better score lines all season. Then Gary Speed spent 2 months here before leaving for Wales job which was expected. We then get boyhood Blade Micky Adams who was a lovely bloke juust not a very good manager. We were relegated to the third tier of English football for the first time in over 30 years.
McCabe made a big decision in appointing former Wednesdayite Wilson but it seemed the decision had payed off, playing liovely football, hammering teams, scoring 5 goals in one game on some occasions. We all thought that we would do it, you enjoyed going to the Lane again, but the promotion dream was snatched away yet again. Our best striker is jailed in what can be seen in unfair circumstances. In a few days we have lost another sriker and before long Cresswell is injured just before the Play Offs. But we beat Stevenage late on and the belief is back.
I thought we would beat Huddersfield and after their first 3 penalties, we had a chance. My mum walked in just after Huddersfield missed number three and said 'they won't blow it now' they did and when Simonson blazed his spot kick over the bar I sunk to the floor and cried. Dowe now expect to be let down?
Another thing-BDTBL-If we dont get off to a good start, attendances will dwindle and a ground that had one of England's best atmosphere's will have more and more empty seats. This club is built on if's and but's.
If Webber would have scored against Wigan.
If we'd have beaten Palace.
If Lowton scored his penalty....
Whats going to be next?
Are we just an unlucky club?
Or who's to blame?

UTB
Carry on regardless

the above has been mentioned and thrown out of the pram on numerous occasions,no point dwelling on the past.
you make your own luck.
If i were to blame anybody,id blame mark stein all those years ago,the little shit.

I think I've seen this question before.... Is the answer McCabe.... If not can you change your question :)

Or Graham Stuarts shot that in his own words "collected a 100 worms as it rolled into the net"

I'd take all the failure of the last 5 years and more if it meant we continued to use our club badge and wear red and white.

Feeling for the Cardiff City faithful this morning.

Not sure how tongue in cheek it was but a Chelsea fan @blueschronicle tweeted about the Cardiff kit change

"Sympathy for Cardiff City fans: robbed of history by foreign fast buck men. Football without history & legitimacy is nothing but a circus."

I feel sorry for Cardiff fans (possibly for the first time ever) about this.
I certainly wouldn't want this type of change to take place at Blades.

Palin definitely a blade, see the inside jacket of a few of his books and you will notice blades related stuff

Palin's a blade?

Poor sod. Wht's he done to deserve that?

Come to think of it, what've we all done to deserve that?

Long summer, followed by an even longer winter lies ahead. Tin hats on! :(

I know the question was asked in jest, but from what I can tell Michael Palin is a Blade but says he supports Wednesday too because he's so "nice" and all. I recall seeing a programme with him on talking about that Ripping Yarns episode Golden Gordon, and he said he could sympathise with Barnstoneworth United because he supported Sheffield United.

feel for Cardiff? massive investment from abroad they can change our badge for massive investment.

But we already have a badge that reflects power and fortitude and we already play in red.
We must be the luckiest team around, eh?

Wot? We're not? Well that's screwed that pooch then hasn't it?

Imagine if some Thai businessmen bought out McCabe and said we'll invest £100 million into the club but the club colours will be Grey & White. Grey to represent steel and White to represent the white hot heat needed to forge the steel of Sheffield.

The only nod to 123 years of history will be a splash of red on the badge and you'd be willing to "Carry On Regardless"?

I'd rather watch United in the Meadowhall Sunday League than witness the club's soul being given away to foreign money.

With a logo like that, we'd be sponsored by Irn Bru.

3210......... I got a superb Blades cover for one of those somewhere !

I would feel for any genuine fan of any club including the unwashed if they had their identity taken from them without proper consent. Its all well and good saying "For 100 million I don't care" but that isn't the point is it? I could never stand Cardiff as a club because with Risdale around they cheated their way up the league. They are not at the top of the Championship for any other reason than the massive debts they were ringing up. They owed the taxman a fortune.

Now they have sold their soul to the devil, but did they really have a choice here? 70 million in debt and rising, no sign of cost cutting or a way out, this was the only option and apparently the shirt change actually has more to do with the significance of red in Asia than it does about the welsh identity.

This is the way the game has gone. I have argued before that I don't care if we dwell in the third tier of English football. If we never see the Premiership again but retain our club for the fans then it is a better thing. Why does anyone want Premiership football anyway? What is the gain from a fans perspective. You lose more than you win, you are constantly fighting relegation and looking over your shoulder. You are an unwelcome guest at the table in any case. Its all about the money. And thats where its fundamentally wrong.

It's interesting tho regarding if United ever changed the badge / colours. It seems most would rather let the club go bankrupt and fold (and have no club to support) rather that take 100+ million to clear debts and take them back to the PL

Possible post for next season:

I could never stand Cardiff Wednesday as a club because with Risdale Mandaric around they cheated their way up the league. They are not at the top of the Championship for any other reason than the massive debts they were ringing up. They owed the taxman a fortune.

If the blades did sell their soul/and colours for the devils gold, within 20/30 yrs from now a lot of us won't be around. Those That are will be drinking their cocoa and mumbling about the good old days, when we had red/white stripes and sang what was even then a very old nice little ditty of a song by John Denver. But the fans of tomorrow won't give a flying fuck abart tolden days,as long as there is plenty of money still around and united are in the newly reformed European elite premier super league. While Wendy are playing man u and west spam in the intergalactic northern league division 1.

You could be right, but I would hope that we have more to us than that. Might just be a utopian dream but my prayer is that the lot goes tits up and real clubs like ours (and to their credit the pork) who haven't sold their souls may prosper once more. Mind you if they don't and we don't I couldn't give a shit to be honest. SUFC are my club. It may be more of a curse than a blessing but better that than trapsing around in a Man U/City/Liverpool/Chelsea/next big thing shirt.
