Moore was being held every time the ball went near him and we should have had 2 pens but apart from that he was wonderful

I thought last night was the best game of football I have seen in ages. Just felt like a proper game without anything disrupting the flow. They always seem to argue that technically gifted players don't get enough protection but o hare did a great job of ignoring this. If we can have games like this all season (I don't mean the winning bit) I will be a happy boy.

Funny article. But there's no smoke without fire. Maybe he's mates with our close friend George Brinkley..
There is very often smoke without fire however quitting your high paying job at a drop of a hat and moving to fucking Oslo on the other hand…..

To be fair to him, I know a bit about him from when I did refereeing when younger before I got to the part of life where you take refereeing seriously or you do park football/ Sunday league etc. I took the later option before I got sick of the “politics” of it all and sometimes the abuse too. When I first started I refereed at Leeds academy (very sheltered) up to U16s under Barnsleys own Steve Lodge. I am a year younger than Bobby and he was at the same academy as me with his brother Andy. Bobby went on to become a PE teacher and when refereeing got serious when he was in the as it was then Conference he stopped teaching and took over as a part time referee administrator for West Riding FA balancing that with refereeing he was a full time referee addict. I also did a couple of few games at Shirecliffe to help out the U15s there. Bobby then went into the football league and Premier League without the West Riding job. He suffered massively with mental health problems, I have known him for nearly 20 years but when 100s of people are abusing him, it’s just not on. The “dog rumour” was made up as he was simply a proud Huddersfield Town fan and naturally their mascot being what it is was how that was created. The “random move” wasn’t that random considering his now girlfriend is Norwegian.

I know he got some stick on here, but overall I thought he was very good. Just the one booking when the PNE defender couldn’t have done more to ask for it. Anel was maybe lucky to avoid one for us.

As mentioned above - it was great not having to worry about VAR.
The PNE yellow card was one of those situations where I feel a sin bin rule would be appropriate.

We were on the counter and outnumbered them and the foul was a clear attempt to stop that attack, so there was a highly probably chance we would get that goal scoring opportunity which would be a red card if fouled at that point.

2 things I would “steal” from Rugby would be Sin bins and “penalty goals” instead of their penalty tries. If a player says handles the ball on the goal line deliberately to stop it going in rather than give the penalty, a goal is awarded instead you could have it for simply handballs, trips and pushes inside the 6 yard box or similar. As was seen with the 2010 World Cup with Uruguay and Ghana when Suarez hand balled on the line and was sent off but Ghana had the penalty saved personally, I think the “justice” would be a goal given in this case to Ghana and yellow card to Suarez for unsporting behaviour.

Some of the abuse at the level I’m involved in can be a bit much to put it mildly.

Some decent refs in the Rotherham prem, one fella in particular I’m surprised he isn’t reffing higher. Even the bad ones are there to do a job. I always try and make a point of having a chat to them before a game, it does kind of give you a gauge of how approachable they are, also makes it easier after if you feel the need to ask them about decisions.

I’ve reffed some games myself as a stand in. Would I do it proper? Fuck that

100% know where that is going. I stole a line from an old timer when I used to talk to players. Which was always “I am on my own to referee this so you can enjoy your game of football. I won’t get every decision right in your eyes or even if that’s because it was the wrong decision but it doesn’t make me a cheat (used to hate that accusation on a Sunday morning) it just means there are areas I need to work on. Just like you as footballers we are at this level for a reason. Feel free to chat afterwards and give constructive feedback otherwise i have the afternoon off and will easily do the paperwork on however many cards need to be issued for back chat or foul and abusive language”

Sometimes it worked, did some cracker games. One was a 7-7 draw on a Sunday morning with some right goals in it too. Had to abandon a couple because of too many red cards because they weren’t there to play football. Sent one off after 1 minute with an ankle snapping 2 footer he then had “the bollocks” to call me a cheating c%#t. At the time I was 17, I started at 14 and finished when I had enough of all the longer travel to fill in games for referees they were losing. I was claiming back more in mileage than the match fee on a Sunday morning then you have the cheek of the coach/chairman of saying ‘ow much. Offered for them to ref it themselves not sure why they turned it down 😂 finished at the age of 27. There are fast track opportunities for identified referring talent but it does mean commitment which is fair enough I guess but I wouldn’t want to through myself in that spotlight when for some reason referee abuse is deemed part and parcel of the game.

My mate is at the level below the national league, hes only 29 so hopefully will go all the way. I was talking to him about sin bins last night, we were both totally against them but he says they really do work well both for the refs and the players, knowing a further offence is a red card. He used it yesterday at barton on Humber but also had to give a red in a seperate incident, and he got the usual abuse at the end of the game.

I am always up for sensible constructive chat about improving the game. Although the game isn’t helped that we have 3 separate governing authorities (FIFA,UEFA,The FA) then the individual league PL,EFL etc I appreciate a lot has to do with money especially with who can fund what and what is practical.
