The referee didn't cost us the game but he was trying his hardest to affect the game. There was one or two bizarre incidents one of them being, it was 1-1 he give a free kick inside the D which was dubious in the first place, the referee paced out the ten yards for the wall then he want to there centre-forward who was stood in front of Blackman and in an offside position and told him if he stayed there he would give him off side, so I would move if I was you the centre forward moved to on side position. I was down at the front and could lip read what the referee was saying to the centre forward the fans round me were outraged with this, if they had scored from the freekick after the ref had told the centre forward to move the fans round me were young and full of beer I could easily have seen then go onto the pitch. Surely this is a referee influencing the game which he is not allowed to do he should be impartial. Did anybody else in the crowd see this bizarre incident.
I actually regard this as good refereeing, as occasionally you see goals given from free kicks where they go straight in and forwards standing between the wall and the goal are adjudged not to be interfering with play. I have always thought that is nonsense - of course someone standing there is interfering - they are distracting the goalkeeper.
In making the position clear the ref removed any ambiguity, which I think is a good thing. Still think he was very poor generally, though not as bad as our performance.
