I've been looking for a quote where Wilder or Knill say that a season or two's consolidation in the Championship isn't part of their plan for United. So far I can't find one. Given we're untried at Championship level it will be interesting to see who responds and who falls short. This assessment will take a little time, so of course consolidation is a given. At the moment we're a little better than many of the teams we meet at Division 1 level, that situation may be different should we achieve promotion. Does anyone realistically think that changes won't be made? I ask not because the answer is obvious, but because the rate of change will take longer than we've witnessed this season. Hence the need for consolidation.

Of course expectations will go through the roof. Being a division below the Premiership will bring with it a hike in what could be.......time, decent recruitment, and the inevitable decision to put our necks on the line when it comes to finding those forwards who inevitably cost more than most other players. If anyone genuinely thinks that anything other than consolidation is an option then I'll wager that severe disappointment awaits you.

Not sure what point you are making regarding searching for the quote from Wilder and Knill. As much as there hasn't (probably) been a quote stating consolidation isn't part of their plan I am sure there isn't a similar quote stating consolidation IS part of their plan.

It didn't take Wilder long to assess the type of players needed to take us to the top of League one. A league by the way Wilder has had no experience of. I've every confidence he has the knowledge to assess the type of player necessary to take us to as higher position in the Championship as he he so wishes.

Consolidation is putting a ceiling on the ambitions of our management pair. But as I said in my original post do our board have the nerve to match the ambitions of Wilder and Knill? If not then another club may come knocking.

Consolidation is putting a ceiling on the ambitions of our management pair.

It needn't necessarily mean that, it could well be just pausing to get our breath back, then pushing on.

That said, we are only just over half way through THIS season.

Perhaps the correct time to discuss our Championship side is when/if we actually get there?

Remember, the Football Gods' first rule is don't get ahead of yourself.

No more threads with 'Championship' / 'Promotion' or anything similar in the title, please!

Given what seems to be a healthy relationship between Wilder and the board, I think that there'll be an equally healthy approach to the business of what level of ambition Wilder and United share. As I should coco has said, let's get this season out of the way first. But taking stock is advisable, something I feel that Wilder is quite used to.

I was wondering how the glass-half-full brigade was going to take starting 2017 at the top of the table 3 points clear and post a doom and gloom thread.

I expect Wilder and Knill to spend time discussing the next match under the heading of 'take each game one at a time.'

Similarly I expect them to devote time to discussing next season. With the length of players' contracts running into years it's essential that those responsible for those players should think long term.

We are in a strong position. We need to be positive (not arrogant) and believe that promotion will be achieved this season. We don't want to start planning next season in the Championship too late. How many times have clubs being promoted via the play offs and complained about being several weeks behind the other promoted clubs in signing players?

The signing of Samir Carruthers, a player with Championship experience on a 3.5 year deal shows our management team are already looking beyond May 2017.

Come on Chris. Break the Blades mould and start building for a long term successful future.
