We do not have the players to make the passing style work. We did miss Mcdonald but I prefer to move on and think of a better style of play to suit the players we now have. I dont think 4-2-3-1 suits Taylor as he doesnt win anything in the air. I think he is better playing off a target man in a 4-4-2 formation. Murphy has been poor again and he should have been subbed instead of McFadzean. I am not a big fan of Matt Hill but I think he is the best LB we have in our squad.

If that is a passing style then bring back hoof. One of the most boring games I can remember. The only passing we did was sideways and backwards.

For me 4-2-3-1 doesn't work in this league. It might be ok at international level or in the top leagues where the pace is slower but when teams are constantly at your throat you can rarely find the opportunity to get anyone else forward to support the lone striker. Maybe it's just our players who aren't good enough.

Weir should have taken Murphy off for Porter, put Fadz on the left and gone 4-4-2. Where's your Plan B gaffer...?

Murphy had to be the key today, but he's far too peripheral. No help to Taylor or the midfield.

Until we get new bodies in I think we need to start with Porter next to Taylor.

I'd have either done that, put Taylor behind Porter or brought Smith on for Murphy and instructed him to get on the ball and run at them.

McFadzean was tiring, but he'd done more than most.

Taylor clearly cant play as a lone striker. Play him just behind Porter and he may score goals.
Positives today Mcfaz and Mcginty along with Brandy. Also thought Johns looked lively when he came on.
One question though, Why oh why when the opposition have a corner do we insist on bringing everyone back. Colchester proved by leaving someone up that defence can be turned into attack.

We've got to give it a chance. 3 games isn't long enough. Have some bloody faith and patience!

1st half was painfully slow and we had no drive. 2nd half we weren't far from getting the balance correct and had we had that player to link up to Taylir we'd have had won that game.

Work in progress.

You thought McGinty was a positive today? I thought he was pretty poor. He didn't defend particularly well and his distribution was piss poor. Almost every time he got the ball he tried to curl it down the line to nobody in particular.

McFadzean was average and Brandy was very good again. I am just concerned that it won't take the rest of the division to work out that he is our main (only?) attacking threat.

McFadzean and Brandy did well today but McGinty was mixed, at times looked decent and solid enough but he just seemed to pump the ball along the line hoping for someone to latch on to it, he did this several times resulting in us losing possession cheaply.
I don't know how you can say Johns looked lively though. Looked extremely nervous whenever he was near the ball, misplacing passes and strolling straight into the opposition players! He'll get better over time as he's only 18 but he didn't have any effect whatsoever when he came on.

There are many things I do not understand....
1) Where was Williams?
Wasn't in the squad at all and not heard anything about whats happened to him. (Not saying I miss him)
2) Why wasn't McGinn starting?
Was it because he had ONE bad game in his second for the club last week? Fallen out with Weirdo all ready? Also why wasn't he brought on in midfield? It was obvious we needed someone else in midfield who could maybe cause problems.
3) WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO TAKE A SHORT CORNER TO THEN SEND IN A CROSS?!?!?!
Seemed really pointless and this was the corner that lead to the break-away goal, might not be a big deal but in hindsight we probably wouldn't have conceded.
4) Jake Eyre... Never seen this kid play, 17 years old, a striker. Has he even signed a professional contract? Not heard of him before and he's not on the back of the programme.

I think i've entered the twilight zone. Who the hell is Smith?

Why was there some mystery kid on the bench? And what's happened to Flynn, did he fall down a hole?

Not yet. He's had a good pre-season for the U18s but hasn't been near the first team before today. I'm wondering if Weir did it as a 'please let me sign a player' gesture to be honest...

Jahmal Smith, signed a pro contract in the summer.

I am not normally one for making snap decisions, but with the loss of McDonald - who is the only one capable of playing that key role in this formation (in my opinion) - I would be tempted to go 4-4-2 now with Murphy and Talyor up front. I know it needs time, but we can play positive, attacking, passing football in a 4-4-2 so maybe we shouldn't waste time on a system that probably won't work?

I would love to see Murphy being given a proper run in his proper position, rather than being stuck out on the wing or poncing about behind a lone striker.

Sorry to disagree MTG but Murphy's proper position is nowhere near the starting 11 as far as I'm concerned. The lad has one or two attributes but no end product and certainly no appetite for it. Playing football appears to be a chore to this lad.

Sadly, that's my concern about him too. A kid of his age should be full of running and certainly not be the one who rarely completes a full 90.

I hope it's a confidence thing and Weir can nurture him, but unless he improves he'll not be here next season.

Agree re Murphy.

If we do go two up top, I'd say Porter and Taylor would be a natural pairing. Taylor's movement looked really good today and I thought there were flashes of a good player there. He's not great in the air though. Porter could help in that regard and take some of the donkey work (no pun intended) away from him.

In isolation, they might not cause defences enough problems but together, I think they'd be a real handful.

Yes, he kept slicing the ball out of play when he had a chance to play the ball to a player in front of him. Just like he sliced McMahon's shot in our away game at Tranmere last season and the ball ending up in the net

If I had moved to Scotland for a new job and when I got there they gave me a completely different job to the one I had expected to be doing, I would probably sulk a bit too.

What's missing is good movement up front and some incisive passing or running once we reach the final third.

It is work in progress and hopefully it will come good. We do have to be patient.

Taylor was poor first half, he's not good in the air and his first touch was awful. However, I thought he was much better second half.

I've yet to see Murphy have a good game which is now very worrying.

I thought McFadzean did some good things and made some mistakes. He will become more consistent.

We still need a playmaker and a striker and hopefully Weir has some money and some targets in the pipeline.

These are all new situations for Weir, we have to back him.

I do hope that the crowd will be patient with Weir. Even if we end up finishing 15th, we need to give him the chance. For me, unless we get sucked into a serious relegation battle and are staring down the 4th division barrel, it needs to be xmas 2014 before we are going to seriously judge him.

how do we know , did swansea adopt it and become fluent in a week, no took a season
lets give it time to develop, ,patience brings it ,s own reward they say , thats if you have any

It does, and I'm all for it. But I worry my patience is greater than the board's.

WE NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS DIVISION ASAP!!!! THE MORE SEASONS WE ARE STAYING IN THIS DIVISION THE MORE FANS WILL BE DRIVEN AWAY FROM THE LANE. WE HAVE A MUCH BIGGER HISTORY AND A BIGGER FANBASE THAN SWANSEA SO IT WAS EASIER FOR THEM TO HAVE PATIENCE IN THE LOWER DIVISIONS BEFORE THEIR STYLE OF PLAY EVENTUALLY CLICK AND THEN MOVE UP THE DIVISIONS!!!

With McDonald going it seems like its back to square one withe the game plan and that was evident yesterday. It is going to take while I'm afraid.

I quite like McGinty. I wondered where Flynn was - is he injured. I'd quite like to see him hava game or two in an inside midfield role

Ooof no. McGinty looked like someone had just brought him along to make the numbers up. "I know this lad at work who says he'll play on Saturday. He's not very good but he's keen..."

I agree. We have already been here too long in my eyes. The quality of the teams at this level is attrocious and we are becoming more and more like the rest of them in terms of the quality of the playing staff. The longer we are here, the greater the risk of stagnation.

I agree with this as well. I thought he was poor, with his distribution being particularly bad. SBSP said to me about 30 minutes in "it's like having Alan Wright back because he keeps trying to hook balls down the wing. The only difference is Alan Wright actually kept the ball in play."

It's simple.....if you want a quick fix it ain't going to happen. You're better of saving yourself the heartache and the money by staying at home. The journey back is going to be a long and painful one, so buckle up and get comfortable because it is what it is....a huge fuck up with no one currently willing to stump up for the full repair. The sooner everyone accepts it the better.

For the record I don't like it either.

Yes we do need to get out , but its 46 games not 3,we need a striker to start scoring , I believe getting Miller back fit and degeralamo will help with this. EARLY DAYS
Dont panic Mr Mainwaring
Took Southampton 4 terms to get out , but with patience they have returned to the promised land, its what we must do ,stay behind the team and trust we will prevail, we wont be hammering sides every week , no one ever did to get of this league, even man city took extra time and 2 injury time goals to get past gillingham, expecting 5-0 wins as default is an unhealthy point to start from
