The party's over

All a matter of context. I used to like bangers at a bonfire night do - putting one under a dustbin lid or in a rotting apple was great fun. But having young kids with me on the Kop and people chucking bangers around which could go off at head height or lodge in the hood of a coat - that's just the wrong place and time.

Indeed it was and still is. Stupidity of youth and all that.

It's all a matter of context then, faced with acts of terrorism or some pist up lads with a bit of smoke.. There has to be some who can't draw a distinction.
On the contrary, I do draw a distinction. Terrorism is much more serious, but I do not lose sleep over it. You don't have to have been affected by something personally for it to be wrong. In a crowd of 20000+ in a confined area, pyros are a bad idea. You have every right to disagree, but those responsible for other people's safety have to take decisions to minimise the risks involved. When accidents happen, we quite rightly call them to account for their decisions.

Well, not me who brought in the terrorism comparison. But again, let's again call upon all Blades affected by pyros to speak out. And those responsible for safety of course, should go for the line of least resistance, but that does not make it proportionate.

PS I have lost sleep over terrorism and a bit of smoke does not compare.

I won't push the comparison. But perhaps you will allow me to find out what we agree on, and then the debate can be about remaining differences. This was done in a previous thread, I think, but I couldn't find the relevant posts.
1. Clubs need to provide safe stadiums. Many lives were lost in the second-half of the last century, partly as a result of unsafe grounds.
2. People attending events in large crowds in confined spaces have to accept limitations on their individual freedoms. I am glad to be able set off fireworks in the back garden this weekend, but would not expect to set them off on the Kop this afternoon.
3. The authorities have to set proportionate regulations (your phrase), to ensure safety.
If we all agree on this, we can keep the discussion to what should/should not be allowed, and we are all free to push for change (safe standing being one example). I would oppose the approval of pyros, amongst other reasons because in a crowd of 25000 I do not foresee a situation where we could be sure nobody would throw them - as recently as the Norwich game, while I was hurling abuse at Angus Gunn, others were hurling coins and (plastic) bottles. I think it would be difficult to persuade the authorities that football crowds can be trusted with them.
And now to beat Hull...
