Will Lankshire and Sidie Peck both signed for us on pro contracts after we paid Arsenal ( i think it was 200,000 ) both players did well in our youth set up with Lankshire excelling scoring for fun.
Peck signed a new deal and has done really well, Lankshire's father was a Spurs fan and Lankshire signed for Spurs! his father's influence obvious.
He was obviously a natural finisher and I think the reason Arsenal let him go was ! he lacked a real change of pace something top strikers usually need although I can think of two straight away who lack it! Harry Kane and Billy sharp both great strikers but Kane does lack pace but makes up for it in many ways.
Don't know what Spurs payed for Lankshire million plus I would think a profit yes! But no doubt we would have loved to keep him.
His way forward seemed to stall at Spurs and after a loan at Oxford sold him to Boro with big add ons if he was successful.
He was lightweight while with us with a big frame which he seems to have filled out beautifully for a striker..
What could have been ! scoring record with us told its own story and Boro are loving it ! he has the knack of finding space at the right time with great finishing

Boro were good last night.

Sad to think we took them apart a couple of seasons ago at home and we’ve been so poorly run since then we’d be knackered just watching a powerful and athletic performance like that.

Don’t think the club could’ve done much with the Lankshear situation though. He moved to a massive club with an academy in a different category to our own. Unfortunately no matter how hard we try we can’t compete with that.

He will get promoted with Boro but then get snapped up by one of the big PL clubs.

Maybe even back to Spurs.

£50M+ decent profit (sell on?)

Sell on’s usually come the move directly after the sale.

We got a chunk of his transfer fee with his move to Boro. I think the best we can hope for is that Boro have a big promotion based add on which we’d then get another chunk of as a % if they did get promoted.

I believe it was potentially around £2.5m.

It’s very easy in hindsight to suggest we should have kept hold of him, but there’s no guarantee he’d have developed into the player he appears to be now seeing as he’s had an extra two years in a youth setup that’s far more sophisticated in our own before breaking into senior football.

A decent bit of money from someone who cost us extremely little. The idea that he was amongst our best attacking players is entirely hindsight talking as there was no way he was going to break into the team that season, or indeed the following season.

With add ons …. which is probably based on appearances, goals & promotion Boro reportedly paid Spurs circa £20 million for him. We will get 20% of the difference - so say £18 million = £3.6 million - if he carries on the way he has & Boro go up.

No guarantee that he will do it in the Premier League though. Who knows - he may have already reached his ceiling.

I don’t think that clubs can block academy transfers to clubs with a higher academy status regardless.

I think what United did quite well with Lankshear was to negotiate a fee rather than going to tribunal and probably getting less in compensation weeks or months down the line without the additional contactual clauses.

He was going and it was pretty much out of the clubs control. I guess the only thing that could’ve been different is if he was on a pro deal rather than a scholarship arrangement but you can’t go sticking everyone on pro deals too early because there’s still a massive risk and low % actually making it.

That lad has a lot of potential. I'm sure Tottenham incorrectly assessed him not premier league quality, but wouldn't surprise me if he's in the Premier League next season (either way) and the next Harry Kane in waiting.

Interesting scenario that.
If we'd been at home with nothing to play for last game of the season against Boro, but a win for them would see them promoted.....

Ahh but if he had stayed with us the filling out on the Mouset Hamer diet may not have been a good thing

It's so hard to tell.

There aren't many posts about how we ripped off other clubs for Mellis and Slew.
