the more I think we are going to have to rely on the squad from last season, plus a few low key additions, to take us to the next level.

That's not meant to be negative, but realistic.

The money MOST Championship clubs spend on new players is beyond us - and I'm glad it is.Dont forget we've had 6 years at this level. We've lost a lot of financial ground.

Have you seen the millions of debt many of them are carrying? Even Brighton - ok so now promoted -- but over £100m in debt before they kick a ball next season.

Can it be done another way perhaps? Can we get very good players who are not household names and get them to break the mould for us?

I think Wilder can and will.

So don't be disappointed if we miss out on mercenaries. We don't need them.

Thats your view which is fine, but I wouldn't say there's any kind of reasonable immediate evidence to back it up. The few signings we've had already, and everything from McCabe and the Prince so far has pointed towards a summer of top class investment with the genuine view to progressively building up a squad capable of pushing for another promotion.

The Championship was absolute bobbar last season and I don't see it changing much.

I'm reasonably confident we could finish top half with the team we had last season.

Given that Chris Wilder is picking the players we are signing, however, I personally am fine with this strategy for the present.

Newcastle chucked a fair bit of money at it and I thought they were pretty flaky really, quite fortunate for them that Benitez stayed and kept their ship relatively steady.

The Blades have the right management in place, perfect team ethic and harmony..no need to jeopardise that by signing or chucking silly money at big time charlies, under the radar signings are fine and the ones that get the job done, hungry and eager to step up a level.

With all the crappy, fake deluded and greedy bullshit going on at the top two levels I hope the Blades continue to keep it real and remain the breath of fresh air they were last season!

It's still early in the proceedings, but I'm confident that we will sign a couple of players that may surprise us.

We have already strengthened by releasing a few that weren't playing or getting in the squad, and replacing with better or different types of player.
Enda Stevens could be a shrewd signing, Stevens with better players around him may well also be a big player. Evans is certainly an improvement on Sparky and Done.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two arrive from the top two divisions, whether on loan or full transfer.
The crucial aspect of it all is for the first time in a long time we are finishing a season ready for this season and have a stable management and scouting team in place.
So when all is said and done I'm pretty relaxed about it all. This season is set up as a consolidation season so there is no pressure as I feel we will be comfortably mid table. We will continue to persue players after the seasons started and bring them in after Xmas, like we did this year to good effect.
