The Modern fan and Attention seeking

I think people take it too seriously it's just a forum and it's just debate ,thinking out loud

Facebook and Twitter are far worse
I've seen countless posts that are extremely abusive towards people who have been critical of the performance which in my view is just as bad as moaning about the team

Not sure abusing our players constitutes "debate", tbh. A lot of the time it's just abuse.

Seems to be the way of the world.

Some people might not like it but my assessment was that Saturday was a total bag of shit, and not afraid to say that, and not afraid to state openly that Wilder shouldn’t be above criticism,

Like it or lump it, Football is an emotive game, and my reactions at full time if we have lost can be extreme or entertaining depending on which way you look it. Sometimes it manifests itself in angry rants, normally it takes me about an hour or so to stop ranting and moaning, but I openly express my opinion be it positive or negative at the time, and I don’t follow any line, and why should I.

Call it attention seeking if you want, but what I always offer is my honest view and opinion, without following any particular pre-defined agenda, that is why I’ve sometimes been branded a clapper, and at other times a knocker, but at least my opinions are true to me.

It worked for the Arsenal supporters though, if we all club together we could get all the players, the manager and the board out......o_O

Remains to be seen whether the Arse fans will be any happier/content. I suspect not.

I was really looking forward to the start of the season. The result on Saturday was disappointing, but hey ho.

For me personally, though, the real shame has been having my enthusiasm for the new season wet-blanketed by some of the shite that I overheard in the ground, and that has been spouted on here since. Players--OUR players, SUFC players--denounced as "tools", "cunts", "pricks", "fucking useless tossers", etc, etc, etbloodycetera. During and after the very first game of a brand new season. It's nothing new, I guess. In fact, it's pretty standard stuff from a significant boorish minority of our notional "supporters". After a couple of months off, I suppose I'd just forgotten (or repressed) it. But it doesn't half take the edge off the pleasure of supporting the club at times.

When did this rubbish start?

When, how and why did it become acceptable?

Why do we tolerate it?

What sense is there in it, and what purpose does it serve?

There's always been a "two minute hate" aspect to live football, but I can honestly say that I generally remember it being directed at the oppo in the past, not at our own. Am I mis-remembering this?

Both teams in any football match are trying to win. Beating us is what the oppo are setting out to do. Sometimes, some of "our" "supporters" seem to forget that. Oh, and only one team can win. Sometimes they forget that, too.

Modern football, eh?

Very well said. It seems to go hand in hand with the modern "self-entitled" attitude. I could understand the reaction if we'd lost to some little team not expected to do more than get relegated, but since when were we supposed to take newly relegated PL teams apart? I can understand some critical analysis after losing, but some of the vitriol directed to our own team is way over the top.

Exactly. There is a big difference between reasoned criticism and personal abuse.
