If you can ever be awarded assists for red cards, all involved in nabbing Vaulks’ towel should be given that. Already irked by that, he shortly afterwards gives the ball away, the combined anger leading to his brainless challenge on Baldock.

We’re ahead having not really been made to work too hard, and at a time when Rotherham were getting more possession that we were dealing with fairly comfortably (Egan dealt with the Vaulks throws superbly), they give us the gift of a red card.

We need to take advantage of this. We’re going to be dominating possession, and if we can get another goal soon we can relax a bit. In a perfect world we go 3-0 up and then bring Coutts on for Norwood to avoid any needless booking for him.

McGoldrick’s looked good, though seems to be dropping deeper – possibly because Duffy hasn’t been quite on it (very quiet till the red card) – and Hogan’s been ok (a pity his goal was ruled out).

That’s a super goal by Duffy, who’s had a much better 2nd half – created an excellent effort for Stevens moments before the corner.

Rotherham: time wasting when already losing. Bonkers!

Kicking the ball away every time it goes out. Subs walking off at record slow pace.

Think were same GD as Norwich now, better than weeds, which could be vital at the end of the season

Job done in second place the blades. Keep winning the job should be done ;):)

We did enough to make it a comfortable win today without expending too much energy, without injuries, and were able to accomplish it while giving Sharp the day off and avoiding a booking for Norwood. And I thought that was a potential banana skin too. Couldn’t really ask for much more than that. We weren’t brilliant, but won it with two brilliantly worked corners. We also weren’t forced to be anything but competent by the opposition today.

Watching on a stream it looked very bitty as though Rotherham came with a game plan to stop us playing , I think we will have to Deal with this a lot more before the end of the season , it wouldn't surprise me to see Leeds do the same when we play them if they still are holding second place
But it's nice to see we are breaking teams down who do this to us :)

The sending off, which happened as Rotherham were having a spell where they were getting on top, didn't help the game as it just meant they stuck everyone behind the ball in the hope that at some point they could pinch a goal from somewhere. They were a workmanlike but limited side and I don't think they even believed they could get back in it themselves.

It was a mediocre game both on the pitch and off it.

To be honest I didn't think it looked like a straight red card, but I haven't seen a replay.

Fine that, horrid weather, horrible side to play against, we were solid and made chances. I think we'd have given more of a performance against 11 men, not easy against a flat back 9. Job done

Where I was sat I had a good view of the tackle and it looked like he went in two footed, with his studs showing.

It was clearly out of frustration but what a needless foul to commit. If I was their manager, I’d be livid with him for that moment of stupidity.

Norwood, Like on monday, was M.O.TM today . Thought Duffy wasnt that good, untill the goal

It was a bad challenge and the ref pulled the red card out immediately!. Didn’t have any other choice. I’m just glad that baldock saw what was coming and jumped out of the way!!. If vaulks had connected he would have easily broke one of baldocks legs possibly both his legs!!!. A disgraceful challenge but was made out of pure frustration.
What was the whole towel thing about as it seemed to wind him up?. I know he’d wiped the ball with it once?. UTB

He had a quiet game, but just before the goal he set up a chance for Hogan (I think) who should have buried it, and then at 2-0 set up Fleck for an absolute sitter.

It's weird, he has a substandard game but still ends up with a quality goal and two would-be assists.

Never seen a team behind in a game waste time like that. I know they’re struggling at the wrong end of the table and were down to ten men, but isn’t it supposed to be their big derby game? Pretty embarrassing how they were holding out for 1-0... then 2-0.

I thought the ref waited to get the red card out as he ran across as though he was buying some thinking time. Looked a red to me.

The towel thing looked a farce and why the steward threw it into the crowd, only for it to be thrown back was bizarre. As mentioned in the Shoutbox, I hope Vaulks got it back for his early bath :-)

I don't get why they were time wasting at 1-0 down, as though they were trying to keep it to one and go for a late leveller. They didn't even seem in too much of a rush at 2-0.

I can only assume they were trying to take it to one nil in the last ten minutes and then throw all the big lads forward in desperation to snatch one.

The ref was struggling to get the card out of his pocket I think. He went straight for it but it looked like he was scratching his arse for a few seconds.

Comfortable, clean sheet win. Would've taken that. Hopefully no injuries.

Fucking boring, flat atmosphere in what has become a passionless, dormant Bramall Lane. It felt like a non event.

The conditions negated the man advantage to some extent, but it's poor that we only scored once after the 28 minute red card. We don't seem to care about goal difference. The stupid keep ball in the last 2 minutes seemed to back that up.

JOC motm me, shocked he wasn't a nominee.

Agree, apart from the shocked bit.

The MOTM vote is something selected by clowns, voted for by clowns. It's a joke. People don't need encouraging to spend any more time on their phones during the game.

I think it's a fix half of the time anyway, bit of in house brown nosing.

First and foremost 3 points & another clean sheet , came out of blocks flying got the lead then took there foot off the gas which I just couldn’t fathom .
They had a little 15 minute patch their two wingers played well without having any threat down the middle ,
Sending off for them changed dynamic of the game after that they parked the bus and we slipped into trying to pass the ball around them and playing safely without anyone really taking initiative carrying the ball & making them commit .
In the end we could have added another couple and really ought to have morso when playin* with an extra man .
Not our best performance but comfortable win , we’ll need to be better on Tues night though

i felt it was a good win, it keeps us on track for promotion. we might not be on top form but beat Brentford its 13pts from 15, 21 from 27 since our last defeat. & that what i call domination. 1 nil up before Rotherham even had possession in our half. fantastic goal from Duffy glad he scored that goal, as were comfortable at 1-0 but as proven few times before only takes a fluke/fortunate shot & its 1-1. Also I understand why people think we overplayed today but I when I was watching it reminded me of graham hunter (if you listen to his podcasts) & the way he analyses Barcelona where we kept possession, kept stretching the defence waiting for the mistake/gap & then pounced

the towelgate was a nice bit of light relief but I believe its a real rule from delap era. where towel can be used but only for both teams & once 1 team tries stop the other using it, it becomes illegal. maybe he was still a bit upset over that as i was quite fortunate that red card happen right in front of me albiet 5 seats to the right. my gut reaction was its red every day of the week. because from what I saw, he was off the ground, looked 2 footed & the ball was long gone. you know when opposition manager is saying that it is a stong yellow

I had wondered what rotherham are going to turn up prematch as they have outplayed utd & wed but they must be in bottom 3 for a reason, I thought they well with 10 men caused a few problems. i hope Rotherham survive because i felt they have competed well in the 2 games weve played & considering how dreadful reading were. I am baffled at how they are below them
