The only ones of any real value are the ones likely to make the step up to the premiership. Even some of these have a residual value only due to age. The rest have a value appropriate to the Championship or L1. Here goes:

Simon Moore - £500k (keep)
George Baldock - £2m (keep)
Enda Stevens - £2m (keep)
Jack O'Connell - £8m (keep)
John Egan - £5m (keep)
Chris Basham - £3m (keep)
Jake Wright - free (L1/2)
Keiron Freeman - £250k (L1)
Richard Stearman £250k (Champ/L1)
Kean Bryan - fuck knows
Martin Cranie - free (L1)
Fleck - £5m (keep)
Lundstram - £250k (Champ/L1)
Coutts - £500k (Champ), £3m (if recovered, keep)
Duffy - £250k (needs a good home)
Norwood - £3m (keep)
Marvin Johnson - £150k (Champ/L1)
Billy Sharp - £3m (keep)
Leon Clarke - £150k (Champ/L1)
David McGoldrick - £1m (Champ)
Connor Washington - free (L1)
Gary Madine - £2m (Champ)

So, you're telling me you'd take 4m for our wing backs?

Who would you replace them with....without spending 10m+?

Fuck it, why not:

Dean Henderson - £14m
Simon Moore - £500k

George Baldock - £5m
Enda Stevens - £3m
Jack O'Connell - £10m
John Egan - £5.5m
Chris Basham - £2m
Jake Wright - <£100k
Keiron Freeman - £1.5m
Richard Stearman £250k
Kean Bryan - £1m
Martin Cranie - <£100k

Fleck - £8m
Lundstram - £1.5m
Dowell - £12m
Coutts - £750k
Duffy - £2m
Norwood - £3m
Marvin Johnson - £500k

Billy Sharp - £4m
Leon Clarke - £750k
David McGoldrick - £1.25m
Connor Washington - £1m
Gary Madine - £2m

Re: Basham for £2m - is there any player in our squad (or indeed, in the league / English football) where the difference between "how much a team would pay to buy him from us" and "how important he is to us" is so huge?

Bash is one of my favourite players but no way would anyone pay more than £2-3m for him. At the same time his value to our team is massive and I genuinely think you'd need to get up to £10m or so before I'd think "okay, we should consider accepting that".

This is part of the reason I've not been worried about our players getting poached for the last few years - they're all good players, sure, but there's some serious "more than the sum of our parts" about us.

But they're meant to be local mate, it ain't as if you have to look far to understand the why's and wherefore's of either team. I mean, Lunny at £750K? Surely someone misplaced the full stop, so in reality you'd have £7.50? ;)
but it is easier to get a bunch of clicks (revenue) by just copy and pasting than it is doing your own research.

Players like Duffy, Sharp and McGoldrick are more valuable to us than they are to others, but that's more of an age thing, unlike with Basham.

I think the reason why teams are put off is because he's so unorthodox; he's not got the aerial ability that a prospective buyer might expect from a centre half, which he gets away with in our system.

You're right about his valuation to us too: he's practically indespensible. I don't think we could find a centre half as good on the ball as him in a hurry.

This is part of the reason I've not been worried about our players getting poached for the last few years - they're all good players, sure, but there's some serious "more than the sum of our parts" about us.

I've been thinking this too. In past seasons we've had our best players poached from us (like McDonald, Murphy & Maguire) because they've stood out, it's obviously harder to stand out when everyone else is at the top of their game too.

Let's go and offer Man Utd £1 million for Henderson
We can tell them we're doing them a favour......The Sheffield star says so

And, John Fleck £1.5 million, are they having a laugh

Transfermarkt valuation*

*Transfermarkt's valuation doesn't actually reflect the true transfer market valuation.

Is this the precursor to the Star publishing a dose of Deludamol for those of a porcine persuasion by valuing their squad at a far greater sum than ours ?

I assume Nancy is very pretty or has one over one of the bosses as every article i've ever seen her write appears to be a copy and paste job and little else.

This is a 10/10 article. Would read this a few times a year to be honest: https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...ught-the-most-players-from-the-owls-1-9531099

No Sheffield United in sight despite (off the top of my head) taking Bromby, Quinn, Morrison and Lavery directly from them

EDIT: just seen it says "In the last 10 seasons"... still, a pointless article

But the values are essentially the only pieces of information included in the article, so if the Star doesn't endorse the values listed by Transfermarkt, then why did they use them as the basis to write an entire article?

FWIW, I think your valuations are a lot more sensible. :)
Thanks, mate

Washington and Johnson 3 mil between them ? Gerram sold, the,re both wank and worth 3 balloons and a carrot.

A players worth is not how much you think it’s how much two teams can agree a price on.

Deano £20 Million

Enda 7 million
JOC 12 million
Bashambauer 2 million
Egan 8 million
Baldock 5 million

Norwood 5 million
Fleck 6 million
Duff 500k

Sharp 1 million
Mcgoldrought 2.5 million

In what world is McGoldrick twice as valuable as sharp and 5 times more valuable than Duffy?

Read my post again and you will see that my assumption is:

a) We would be in the premiership and would be able to afford two wing backs of decent quality
b) These two would remain on the books as squad players and cover.

Now that you're being so clever what's your take on the valuation, which is what this thread is all about, instead of sitting on the sidelines being a smart arse and just being contradictory.

Cause Duffy is nearly 35 and Sharp nearly 33 no team is gunna spend millions on players that old
