The long road ahead

Oh for gods sake, we've played eight games and already talk of relegation! We're not as bad as you're making out and a couple of players back from injury and a couple of players in and it will all change. Let's just see where we are at Christmas. There are lots of us that can see changes for the better, so why can't you? Or haven't you actually seen us much this season? Perhaps the silky skills of Chelsea and Newcastle are swaying your opinion.

8 games in, humped 4-0 at home by Scunthorpe, 3-0 at home by QPR. Scraped by bottom of the league (Preston & Portsmouth). Haven't looked like we are going to beat anyone easily. I would say that at this point the league table isn't telling lies.

Is that QPR that are top of the league and look unstoppable? And the Scunny result, in my eyes was a freak result. What about the teams that have had 6 put past them. It's a weird league where anyone can beat anyone and sooner or later we'll come good. I'll be quite happy if we're in the top half at Christmas and I think that's more likely than the bottom three.

I don't know what we need .... but we need sumat.
What i do know is over recent years money at BDTBL has been wasted on a level to compete with the loonie labour party !

Taking on board all you say, its a bit rich lumping into Len for being negative when we currently sit 18th in the table and have one of the worst goal differences in the league. Even if you don't agree with what the guy says you have to say his argument stacks up currently.

Had I heard or seen anything to give me positivity I would take it, but when you take into account who we have played and how we have played its fair for people to be shitting themselves right now isn't it? I know I am, we look poor and its debatable whether we have improved under Speed from where we were with Blackwell in charge. Our best result this season is arguably the away point at Cardiff. I can't even say that we are going to hammer someone soon, because we aren't with that front line.

Red Ed will change all that though BB :)

With the lack of activity since Speedo took over it is obvious that any new signing is not iminent!
I have been extremely disappointed in Speedo paying lip servive to the calls for new players!
I would be far more comfortable with a statement ' Due to financial constraints at the club we will not be signing anyone until we get the promised/expected investment.
In the meantime Williamson will not get fit or at least match fit this side of Christmas and Henderson will not be the answer everyone now says he could be! (if that makes sense!)
Ward is a hothead who is barely fit to play two consecutive matches, obviously Yeates, Boggy and Quinn are not as good than what we have so we will have to put up with what we have!
Morgan is a fitness liabilty, Kozluk not good enough, Calve is defensively frail, Nosworthy just a liability, Taylor and France - see Kozluk! and after Saturday there are question marks against Jordan!!!
So guys, its a midfield of Ertl, Monty and Britton and a 'Strike force' of Evans and Cresswell-
Keep losing and not scoring leads to downward spiral leads to Relegation
However we dress it up we just ain't good enough and I fear for the season

We were shit before Speed changed the style. There's no real evidence that if he reverted to hoof, things would pick up. Our main striker is guff - I don't think it's a lot more complicated than that.

To think what a hotbed Elland Road once was. It was like a library, but the Blades fans were excellent today.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a headline in the national press along the lines of...

"5 games into a season with a mediocre squad, terrible playing style and limited/no resources, new manager is taking time to make an impression and change things"

...seriously though, anyone reading on here would think this was some kind of revelation. We won't win every game, we might struggle, it will take time. It's no more complex than that.

Deadbat,

Easy to say in retrospect???

One or two of us said it at the time and have been saying repeatedly:

The Maestro and Elpiton are useless; complete and utter garbage, the pair of them. Happily the penny is beginning to drop and their apologists are fewer and further between.

Speed will move them out when he can. Will I say 'told you so'? You bet I will!

If we had won on Saturday, and yes I realise we didn't, where would we be in the league? It's just all too close at the moment and two wins on the trot and we'd be there or thereabouts. No need for contemplating suicide just yet!

Oh indeed, suicide would be a little OTT but I think my own major concern is death by lethargy right now.

My main concerns aren't about league position just yet but about the team itself. It all may look nice and tidy but we are utterly ineffective in front of goal. Unless that changes we are in shit.

Secondly, we have played some right dross and still not impressed

Thirdly how many of our games have (from our perspective) been entertaining? I don't count a 4-0 reversal at home as entertainment by the way :)

Finally all the above taken into consideration, what if McCabe doesn't give Speed any money to strengthen? January comes and goes, transfer window snaps shut and we are left with Ched and Cresswell up front, or worse still, Relish because Cresswell is injured.

I'm not quite on suicide watch yet but I am about as concerned about our future as I ever have been in recent times.

There's got to be a serious concern that we won't win enough to stay up, though.

Thank f**k for that, a note of concern. Perhaps we won't go down with a whimper after all :)
