Jags isn't even one that I find most odd.

Rodwell and Verrips are ridiculous compared to others.

Yeah players out of contract can command better wages than if not, but we've got plenty now who've signed renewals recently.

If we're willing to pay players, who were here just as back ups in an emergency, almost double the important first choices over the last two seasons, then it's utter suicide.

Just can't believe it. Then again I perhaps shouldn't be surprised by anything in football these days.

1. I'm not dismissing wages and injuries. They have been an issue. But the idea that we have only collapsed to this level because of these two things is nonsense. We are in the middle of the pack on PL injuries this season.

2. Loss of form of players can be placed at least in part at the door of the manager. Mousset has never been fully fit at any point in his Blades tenure. The team is slower and they are not covering as much ground. They make bone headed decisions repeatedly. What do they do in training?

3. I do think he's lost it in terms of transfer nous and tactical nous. The players aren't exactly busting a gut for him either are they?

4. There is nothing absolutely mad about wanting rid of a manager who is presiding over a team that has lost 20 of 25 games. I do not think there is a manager in British football history who has survived in these cases.

5. I hope that you get the chance to make me eat my words, because that will mean we have a successful season next year which is what I want above all else. I thought after Southend in 2016-17 that Wilder did not know what he was doing. How he proved me wrong. I would love for him to do so again.

FWIW, if we are scraping along in mid table, or worse, no words will be eaten even of for some inexplicable reason Wilder remains.
 
But Wilder always goes on about consistency and picking the same back 3 errrr back 5 errrrr wait what's it now, back 8?

He solely expected the same core players to play 76 games at premier league level and brought in squad fillers rather than players to compete.

We were blessed to go injury free last season, doing it 2 seasons in a row using same 8 players and just rotating strikers is madness of the highest order!

point 3 is the vital one for me chris has failed badly in the last 2 windows apart from bogle and i also dont think the players are busting a gut for their manager it looks obvious to me

Defenders or Haters? Is this what it's come to?

Which category do I fit into? His first four years (well, three and three quarters) were miraculous. This season our results have been amongst the worst in top flight history and that's not a matter of opinion.

He's unable or unwilling (perhaps both) to change the method of play. Although it can be changed during a game, always when we're behind so it makes little difference. The only time I remember when it was altered through other circumstances, the performance improved.

We have six forwards competing for either one or two positions, yet only five midfield players so are unable to change anything at all in that area

Team building has been incredibly poor and sticking to the same script every time we play, which our opponents have torn up, means that just like on Saturday evening we end up punting endless long balls up to a head on a stick.

And yet, I believe he should be given another chance in the Championship if he wants to have a go at it. With the proviso that we need to be challenging for the playoffs by the time October arrives.

So, defender or hater? Which am I?

You are same as the majority of us who are saying he deserves the criticism I for one think his team selection and subs were wrong on Saturday. However you also believe he has done enough in his tenure to argue he is the best man to get us back up. So in answer to your question you are like the majority of Blades.

Very true. I'm interested to know the overall scale and I think it's easier to guess who's on what once you are looking at the real numbers.

I'm not sure effort is the issue - last time I looked at the running stats, weren't we one of the teams that ran the furthest? Though obviously, you can easily point at certain midfielders not tracking their runner after they've given the ball away, which is infuriating, but overall work rate isn't something I'd have high on my list of gripes. The problems for me have been a lack of pace (or maybe a loss of speed of thought) in transition from defence to attack and a lack of quality when it matters.
 
This season so far, we've seen the massive collapse in form and fall from grace of a team we've Idolised for the last four seasons, it has been astounding, but was it always on the cards ?
That this could have happened so fast when we have barely got our feet under the top table makes it seem even more cruel, but that's Football folks.
So it's looking like next season we may have to start all over again, but unlike at the beginning this time we'll be starting out at just one division away ..... ;)

We've been unlucky now losing all 3 CBs but we were already down by then. If the £20+ million spent on Brewster was spent on 2 midfielders and a CB instead, then we might not be in this position? Having a squad we don't fully use means that players (like Basham and Egan) have to play every game. The wear and tear of 2 games per week was always going to take a toll. It has in every league. Yet, we have one loan player (Fulham have 7). We've only used 23 of our squad places.

So, yes, they are a factor, but we've not done a good enough job mitigating against their impact.

Also, our lack of injuries were a major factor in doing so well last season, yet no one seems to factor that into our success. It works both ways.

We spent around £20m each on Brewster, Berge, McBurnie, Ramsdale, and none of them so far have looked like proven Premier League players. Is it realistic that for the price of Brewster we could've bought 3 players that would've been good enough for the Premier League? My guess is we'd just have 3 players people didn't want instead of one.

I don't think it's unrealistic and it would probably have been a mix of bought and loaned. I'm not necessarily talking about first team starters but cover/challenge like Bogle, Lowe, Besic.
 
I think its fair to say with hindsight our pre season recruitment now looks very flawed.
But how many of us predicted back then that our recruitment was so bad that we'd end up in this position? Not many if any. So many players' standards have dropped so far..
CW will surely learn from this if he is given another chance.
Currently no matter what he does we are well and truly goosed! Sadly.

I doubt there are any Wilder “haters” on these pages.
To imply that people who dare criticise him, don’t treat him as some sort of messiah, point out that perhaps CW should take some responsibility for this season’s dross, draw attention to the fact that he has not been too great in the transfer market, plus one or two other bits and pieces are probably simply stating the bleeding obvious. Which is probably fair comment.
 
When we go down, we will have a wage bill that is unsustainable

Where we are concerned this means flogging off players on the cheap.

However considering there are at least 10 of our first team squad for which we wouldn't get a brass razoo, it means the few that would command a fee will be offloaded cheaply.

Why have we got a wage bill that is unsustainable? That is one of the reasons why the recruitment has been like it has,by not signing players on huge wages unlike many,if not most, of the rest of the league.
