No one seems to be mentioning the injuries in their Wilder rants , from Jack and Fleck out at the start right upto last night it’s been one after the other.
People expect us to go to Fulham who had just turned Everton over at Goodson and rip them a new one ... but look at that back 3 last night !

No allowances seem to be made for the injury list and the wage budget disparity ... Loftus Cheek on 150k a week , Areola on 147k a week and Lookman on 100k a week !

Not having a pop at the prince as he can only spend what he has got but surely there is more contributing factors to this seasons performance than just Wilder getting it wrong in the eyes of some ?

Nobody’s mentioning it? It’s a key plank for the Wilder defenders.

The situation is bad now. But we are relegated now. We essentially had O’Connell and one or two others out until we were down. That’s not enough to excuse this complete collapse.

It's utter ridiculous to say we have had one or two out, we have been extremely unlucky this season with injuries. The following key players have missed 6 or more matches (these were all regulars last season).

Fleck
Stevens
O'Connell
Norwood
Berge
McBurnie
Mousset

and now Egan and Basham...

We will sale the Championship if these are all back next season.

If that wage list is correct maybe you can begin to understand why some of our players would be a bit peeved ?

To day at 7am German guns (1,200) began the battle for Verdun in 1916 and It lasted till December.
The Casualties finished at approximately 700,000 dead, wounded or missing.

Think our lack of pre season really fucked us
It was the difference between pre lovjdown and post lockdown and then straight into.this season ,add onto that the early ( and pre )season internationals and the injury's from that and it doesn't take a genius to see the contrast in our play from seasons past to this

I think its been the biggest single contributing factor and its my only real.concern for next season

Hopefully we get a full pre season and show the world what we ate all about

Injuries to key players can make a huge difference to many clubs but those with budgets usually cope pretty well.
I keep thinking of the parallel with Liverpool losing Van Dijke.
Is it coincidence or has their decline been about one key player?

Of your list of seven players, 5 have played over half the games and have been poor to terrible. Another has hardly played and has been garbage. O’Connell I will grant you is a big loss.

There is nothing unusual about that number of players missing that amount of time. Nothing at all.

Our problems run much deeper.

If we are going to Sale it what are Fulham, Watford, Bournemouth going to do? -as it looks a possibility that they will be with us next season you could swap Fulham for Newcastle and West Brom should also be in the Yacht race Sailing passed us. Especially if we keep some of those names on that list.

I'm struggling with some of those figures tbh.
Don’t know how accurate they are but it’s all we got to go on.
On the benched form players wilder will agree himself he’s made mistakes but there has been extenuating circumstances , were they knackered (mcgoldrick) were they not 100% Bogle ... obviously a lot more goes on behind the scenes than we see !

Are you Eric Cantona ?

Spot on, mate.

But the injuries aren't attacking players who are meant to create and score goals?? Yes they're our best players out injured but we have all our attack minded players fit and STILL not creating/scoring.

It's definitely a factor, but it's a factor for just about every club

https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php

We've been unlucky now losing all 3 CBs but we were already down by then. If the £20+ million spent on Brewster was spent on 2 midfielders and a CB instead, then we might not be in this position? Having a squad we don't fully use means that players (like Basham and Egan) have to play every game. The wear and tear of 2 games per week was always going to take a toll. It has in every league. Yet, we have one loan player (Fulham have 7). We've only used 23 of our squad places.

So, yes, they are a factor, but we've not done a good enough job mitigating against their impact.

Also, our lack of injuries were a major factor in doing so well last season, yet no one seems to factor that into our success. It works both ways.

In hindsight maybe, but if we hadn’t have signed a striker there would have been a meltdown about that.
There wasn’t many objections at the time about signing Brewster in fact quite the reverse.

There's 'signing a striker' and there's 'signing a striker and using all our transfer funds on one player with one half season in the Championship'

Wilder defenders! Are people who think we should keep a manager who has had one poor season in 5 a cult? I think you will find the majority of Blades fans are Wilder defenders because they know sticking with him is best for the club.
I love how you Wilder haters completely dismiss things like injuries wage bills loss of form of key players etc. It’s just as simple as you lot think he’s “lost it”. Absolutely mad and I can’t wait to see you and your mates eat their words next season if the manager is still here.

I think it's right to give Wilder a run at the Champ with a decent budget. As you say, he's got credit in the tank

I think some of those on the bench are not fully fit either. a couple of weeks ago Lowe was on the bench and Wilder said he would only be about to play ten minutes. If players are carrying injuries they are more likely to pick up further injuries. in previous seasons Wilder has always been very cautious about bringing people back This season he hasn't had that luxury

He also said there has been an issue with Bogle this week. That doesn’t stop usual suspects slating the manager for not playing him without knowing what the reasons were.

It doesn't help that at this level we have one forward who can truly scare defenders and he seems unable to get fit.
