Of course it's not a season defining game, but it would prey on the minds of Scunthorpe players and fans if they were to go into their next match only level on points at the top of the table, and on the back of a defeat to boot.

A big win on Thursday will leave them asking themselves, after a tremendous run of results, just quite what they have to do to shake us off.

Coventry's confidence is shot. Their fans are in open revolt. If we play to anything like our potential we should win. If we play TO our potential, we should hammer them.

Mr Fleck (aka the metrognome), the stage is yours sir. Get us ticking and show Coventry just what they are missing this season. COYRAWW!!!!

Inb4 the guy that says something like:

'All matches are equally important'

Gillinghams recent league form has been quite good tbf. I've only looked at their last 6 games on the sky sports app but they've won 3 of their last 4 league games. Hope they can give Bolton a game tonight. I'm confident we'll beat Coventry. Their recent league form has been awful to say the least.

Win 5-0 and we go top I think. Anything less and we should join the Coventry fans and revolt
We would need to at least score 7. And even if we did which is highly unlikely would we still go top? How many more goals have scunny scored compared to us?

All true but last Saturday was a biggie for us and I'm sure other teams would have been looking to see how we reacted to a couple of defeats, un-deserved or not. Pressure's on the trotters tonight to react.

Our trip on Thursday can't go as badly as our last visit to the Ricoh. My favourite part of the game was when fans began to chant "Nigel Adkins, you're taking the piss", oh how it's all changed.

We've had some shockers against Cov. The one that sticks in my mind was under Speed when we tried to play football without any creative players (bar Quinny who couldn't do Coutts' job and Duffy's at the same time).
I remember just sitting there shaking my head whilst people around me were booing etc.
I've actually seen so many turgid performances they all blend into one so I can't remember if we'd just signed Reid and he came on as sub towards the end or if we signed him after. I do remember seeing us after we'd signed him and noticing how much better we looked with someone pulling the strings. I think we'd have stayed up if we kept him and I'm still pissed off with that carrot munching worzel for signing him for Blackpool and hardly playing him.

Hmmmm, a little realism wouldn't go amiss here
Tbf, the reality is Cov are awful at the moment and, on paper, we should stuff them.
Unfortunately, the same could have been said about the Walsall game.
I'll be just as nervous as I would if we're playing Bolton.

I take your point, but we're playing them on grass (end of trite statement).
We all know United too well, mate

Mark Venus: Coventry City in a 'sad state', says League One club's caretaker boss

Caretaker manager Mark Venus says Coventry are "a sorry football club" after suffering a fifth straight league defeat against Southend.

City are 21st in League One, having won just four of their 11 games since Venus replaced Tony Mowbray in September.

Fans have staged a number of protests this season against the club's owners, the hedge fund Sisu.

"Everyone can see the team needs a new manager, but they need some new players as well," Venus said.

"It's a sad state, it's a sorry football club."

The Sky Blues were knocked out in the second round of the FA Cup by League Two side Cambridge earlier this month, while their EFL Trophy second round win over Crawley attracted the lowest crowd in the club's history.

"I work 12 hours a day and I care about the football club. I'm trying hard, trying very hard to keep it going," Venus continued.

"It [the team] isn't doing very well, it needs help. Does it hurt? What do you think?

"It's the toughest part of my career. Of course it hurts."

This is just set up perfectly for us isn't it.......

Kin ell!

Nailed on Cov with it is then

Scunny have scored 7 more goals than us. So we need to win by 8 clear goals to go top. Bad as Coventry may be I can't see us doing that somehow. But any win will do nicely!

I don't think you did get my point given your 'trite statement' but don't worry about it. We're basically in agreement. :)

Bolton winning again...they will be the main threat

Gillingham are fucking awful so far

2-0 now, As others have said Gills are dreadful but Bolton look very good, 2 excellent goals.

So we are back down to 3rd despite Saturday....need to be back at it Thursday

"Bolton attacking WITH PACE AND MOVEMENT"
That is the secret at this level.
Hopefully we now have this sussed, although Lafferty and to an extent Freeman fuck about way too much.
Also hope the scouts at Bolton tonight steal Clough and Vela in Jan.

will be very surprised if Clough is there come end of Jan. Josh Vela is a quality player too, two good goals.
