We need to sign a player in the middle of the park this summer desperately. An old head with a lot of experience who can play in the middle of park, and be a genuine leader.

A player who can be a total nasty bastard when required, who can bully not only the opposition but is not afraid to have a go at a team mate when they aren't pulling their weight.

An experienced player who can develop his own team mates in the way that Stuart McCall developed Michael Tonge and Michael Brown in the 02/03 season.

A player who has spent the majority of his career in the top flight, and has never been frightened of putting his body on the line, or head above the parapet.

A player who is currently playing at Championship level, but is on a one year deal and also has aspirations to have a coaching/managerial career.

Joey Barton anyone?

Yes and getting into trouble in Scamps , Josephines , Fannys , . No thanks not when on £15k a week minimum , and not a real role model . Ok someone in between Barton and Hammond. Sensible who is out there . We need someone who knows the league , not some down hill ex premiership / championship has been.

Learn by our past mistakes.

That sounds like Hammond. We need someone who can run and pass as well.

...or someone who is young (ish) hungry and is already proven in L1...believe that Sam Morsy fancied a move to the Lane..?

I remember the days when a week would rarely pass without one of the likes of Bradshaw, Tracey, Ward, Whitehurst being in some form of trouble after exciting adventures in Josephine's. Never remember any disgruntlement about the off the field activities of any of those lot. Evidence seems to suggest that over the last 3 or 4 years that Joey Barton has learned a lot from his younger mistakes

The club should be terrified of signing older players from now on.

Remember there's always, always a reason the 'good' ones like Hammond sign for us in League One - because they're really not very good anymore.

Let's start targeting players who would obviously have every reason to sign for us, players on the way up.

I'd like a team full of young talented hand picked players from the cream of leagues one and two with an older "thinker/motivator" in the middle with a downright scary nasty bastard at centre half....... The only problem is that the chequebooks been welded shut for a proper overhaul that's really needed

Depends how "experienced" experience is? I am coming to the conclusion that 24-26 is the golden age, and that 26-28 is the elder statesman role, 28+ is where age catches up on you, with exceptions of course.

That's probably what Adkins hoped Hammond would be.

He's going to sign him permanently, isn't he?

Having watched Fulham V Burnley a couple of weeks ago - Barton would be an incredible signing. Was the best player on the pitch out there.

Yup, pay £60k per week to another fucked up Scouser with baggage a plenty.
A 'fucked up scouser' wouldn't be on £60k a week. Barton is because - like Robbie Savage - he is incredibly good a what he does. Not only would Barton's wages put us out of the frame (after all, you could get Woolford, Hammond, Coutts, Brayford and Sammon for £60k a week ), he's way too good for Division One. Any Championship team serious about promotion would want Barton in the mix.

I take it you are going to the lane today Trev? Fingers crossed for a result, not that it matters anymore

Sure am, P. Only 360 minutes of home 'football' left, so I'm not giving up on them now!

Not a chance of anything but a defeat today. Walsall have the best away record in the division P:18, W:11, D:6, L:1.

Even nightmares end eventually...:(

We have too many "players" who are just drawing a wage mate, only Billy Sharp has passion.

Joey Barton would be an incredible signing, to surround with younger players (& Billy Sharp).

Still very much in shape, still playing at a high level, still performing week-in-week-out. Out of contract at the end of the season too.

And what he is good at is being a career threatening , dirty, first class cunt. I hope someone knocks the cunt out, committing fouls like he did v Brighton..Wank player....first class cunt as an individual.

Fuck Joey Barton. Netto standard Vinnie Jones....

You might be right on his character, in fact, there's no might about it, you are right. But he's clearly not a wank player.

What's Michael Brown doing these days?
