Look back at Wilder's recent history. Most of the club's he's managed have always caused stress for him with players not being paid, clubs nearing administration, fighting off relegation etc. Then he comes to us and in such a short time took us to the top half of the Premier league, which must have caused more stress during that time and all this without a break. Managers during the close season can't entirely switch off due to planning and recruitment. It's no wonder he's lost his drive and initiative. And must be completely knackered after all these years. There will be the ones who will argue that all managers have the same stress, but do they? The top clubs have the financial support to keep them at the top and those further down the pyramid simply have targets of just surviving.

The best thing the Prince could do his to tell Chris to take a 5 month break on full pay and allow him to go away and recharge his batteries. Come back in May to take on the challenge of instant promotion, during which time hopefully the Prince himself may have secured further financial support for a fresh Premier challenge, Wilder will have had a well deserved rest; be more knowledgeable on how to maintain Premier league status and be ready, willing and able to 'go again'.

The Prince is correct, if he was looking at finding a manager, it would be Wilder he would want to employ if he wasn't already here, so let's make sure the next season commences with a revitalised CW who we all know and love.

With the small matter of who takes us to the end of this season, I'm sure somewhere the Prince has contacts who would oblige. And to those who are now demanding that Wilder be replaced, then come on then, who with? There is no one out there who I would trust my club with.

A manager taking a 5 month break from the club that employs him?

He'd look like the biggest pussy in the history of football.

No player would ever play for him ever again, he'd be finished.

Didn't Warren Gatland have a break from managing the Lions?

Edit: Slightly wrong there:

'In the 2012 Six Nations Championship, Gatland won a second Grand Slam in four years.[5] However, Gatland was unable to see Wales' great form in their Summer tour of Australia, as in April 2012 Gatland broke both his heels while on holiday in New Zealand, and needed reconstructive surgery on his right heel. Initial hopes were that he would recover in time to lead Wales for their three-test tour,[6] but on 19 April 2012 it was announced that he would not recover before the tour, and assistant coach Robert Howley took charge.[7] Due to his success with Wales, Gatland was named Head Coach for the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour to Australia. This meant that Gatland was unable to coach Wales in their 2012 Autumn Campaign, but was allowed to coach the side against Australia and New Zealand. With Wales suffering three defeats on their summer tour, and their winless Autumn Campaign, Wales dropped to ninth in the IRB World Rankings, their lowest ever ranking and a position they had not been in since 2007.

Gatland returned to his post with Wales ahead of the 2013 Autumn internationals, where Wales claimed their first Autumn international win since 2009, when they beat Argentina 40–6, a record winning margin, in their second test of their campaign'

I thought you meant a fotnit. 5 fucking months? Crazy talk.

A manager taking time out to convalesce following a health scare (eg Joe Kinnear) is one thing, but furloughing the manager due to the stresses and pressures that come with being bottom of the league can't really be justified IMO. He would lose all credibility with the squad and staff who would some justification feel he'd climbed out of the trenches. Thankfully, the last person who would even contemplate this is Wilder himself.

Van Winkle.

everyone goes through shite in their jobs, it's all relative. We can't give nurses, frontline workers and teachers 5 months off... in fact they scrape a month if that for the whole year... so why should Chris? Fair play, give him a week off here and there for a rest... but i dont see it being more stressful than a lot of jobs, he actually gets paid fair whack, plus the fame and the glory of being a manager etc.... 5 months... no cheers

Always thought this, but.....
This isn’t the Wilder we know, too many things he is responsible for are going wrong
1) recruitment- we have spent big and made the team worse
2) tactics, putting square pegs in round holes
3) motivation, he said today that’s not his job, sorry Chris that’s exactly your job!

My concern is he is that damaged that we need a fresh face, he needs a fresh challenge
It must be hurting him, but he should ring Wenger and ask for advice on when to fold.

I agree he needs time out, but like a general in war, if you keep leading your men to loosing battles, the ones that stay will remember your failings

The dressing room needs a lift, maybe the pressure has got to him and it’s stifling the players

Gotta love him for all the good he’s done, but I’m afraid his reputation is damaged at bdtbl

Do any of the players look forward to coming in to training?

I would get in a new man now, Eddie Howe possibly, and get the Prince to introduce him by saying “lads were down, but for fuck sake go down with pride and this man will keep the ones that show that and we’ll be back in 20 months”

SUFC was here before Wilder was born, and will be after he goes, thanks for the memories, enjoy having some time with your family and enjoy, but we need to do something unthinkable just 6 months ago and change.

Fucking ridiculous post. Which Prem manager do you think goes to work without any stress? This is a big boys game. Just like real life.

Must be nice to be failing so badly at your job that you're given 5 months paid leave. Not bad on the kind of contract he's likely to have.

Something needs ti change though because training clearly isn't working.

This post epitomises how a large proportion of the fan base are more concerned about wilder, his welfare, his past achievements and being loyal to him, rather than the legacy he is creating.
We are going to be relegated as record breakers, the players and fans will be broken, we will not get promoted next season with this squad. It’s more likely we’ll struggle like Sunderland and wolves in previous relegations.
Derby are still scarred by what happened and it was their first season so excusable. What wilder is overseeing is inexcusable. Frankly he’s the look of the man incapable of making any decisions now and needs putting out of his misery. He doesn’t deserve five months full pay either.

Your not a proper Blade if you dare to think Wilder should go. Even if we lose every game forevermore he has to stay, apparently!
Obviously he can't stay forever, but our fans lack of loyalty to the group of players and manager that have created some of the best ever SUFC moments is embarrassing. Our fans toxic attitude on social media is worse than our performances on the pitch for me.

By all means want people out, criticise performances etc but the way football fans go about these things is just absolutely vile, and I want no part of it.

No sorry. Lots of jobs have stress.
Fuck up when you're a doctor, nurse and people die.
Fuck up in other jobs and you get sacked and can't pay the mortgage.
This is a game. Ok, there's thousands of us wanting more, but the stress is relative.
Fuck the 'pressure' let's get back to having a go and not caring who the opposition reckon to be. Get back to remembering being paid top dollar to play a game is a blessing.

Kay Burley has 5 months paid leave after her stressful incident.... #justsaying

I don’t want Wilder to have a break, I don’t want the players to have a break and I don’t think either the players or manager would want one. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. I really don’t want Wilder to go but if we don’t pick up points in these next three games then he might walk or he might get sacked

Van Winkle.
What makes you think he’d be any good? He’s been assistant manager a fair few times and he managed a University team in Belgium for 6 years over 20 years ago. Hardly shouts ‘gerrimin’ to me.

Also, being pedantic it’s Van Winckel.

Ditto. I can't believe he thinks motivation isn't his job. It comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd on his job description for me.

I’d like to see us have more than one shot on target throughout a game. Only thing Wilders style is currently good for is my accumulator every week.

He holds a UEFA Pro License and has worked with Bielsa, who Guardiola described as one of the best coaches in the world.

Hardly a dummy

If Wilder did part company with the club. I’d actually let Billy have a crack at it till the end of this awful season. If he gets a response, it gives us food for thought. If he doesn’t there’s no harm done.

Wilder is no different from anyone else.
We all have stress in our lives and in my experience whilst under those conditions one learns when to switch off and relax but yet switch back on when needed.
Therefore what you are saying is complete bunkum.

Why would you replace a, at the moment troubled, manager with an untried, inexperienced one?
How about Wilder taking a five month break let Billy take charge whilst he's off?
