The Five Most Expensive League One Transfers in History

The fact that Done apart, we spent fuck all on anyone else? I didn't think that £2m being a large part of a Lg.1 side's transfer budget would be that much an out there statement.
How many were you expecting us to sign?
We already had a huge squad, then were prepared to pay a fairly large sum for Done at the deadline.
More expensive strikers had already turned us down, so why not spend it on a player who was a class above (without hindsight)?

You're reading something I haven't said. My belief is the signing was led by the board simply because that kind of high-profile marquee signing isn't what Clough's about IMO.
I, along with pretty much everyone else were happy we signed Brayford but if the board were happy to spunk that money on one player in a position which we already had loads of cover for, then that's up to them. I just didn't think Clough pushed for this signing, but was clearly happy to have him, as we all were.

Weren’t we trying to sign O’Grady back on a permanent deal, but had virtually no cash left for that after the Brayford deal?

There were a handful of people, but it perhaps sums things up that at the time this very sensible view from him behind you was posted it received zero likes: https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/brayford.34907/page-34#post-704539

I'm probably going to get slaughtered for this but here goes.....

As highly as I rate the beard, have we decided that we now need more right backs than midfield players? Flynn has been ooutstanding in recent weeks, Alcock is just back from injury, we sign freeman and Davis is on his way back. I know the beard is (or was when we saw him last season) better than all of them but will he get us promotion or if we have £1m+ to spend, would we be better spending what we have to address the problem at the other end of the pitch?

Just a thought
Fame at last. Nice to be recognised. Cheers Loughboro.

I'm baffled .Are we proud of blowing 2m on Brayford or embarrassed ? Our neighbours seamed proud of spending 8m on Rhodes, for a few mths until transpired how shit he's become. Now not so proud . I said at the time of the Brayford deal that it was bad business. 1)we needed to strengthen other areas 2)£2m is way too much for a league 1 player.

It was a weird one because I don't think anyone was disappointed to sign Brayford, but plenty of people were baffled as to why we'd suddenly splashed out that much cash on a full back. We've misspent money over the years. The beard is just another example.

The Brayford signing was exciting:
  • He had excelled in his loan spell and looked a championship quality player (or better.)
  • It showed financial backing, and was contrast to the underwhelming signings before the prince's arrival.
  • Brayford had become a bit of a cult hero and many were desperate for him to stay.
Had he not been injured for long periods or if Clough had built better after his 1st season; the gamble may have paid off.

Defintely don't think there should be any hate directed at Brayford. It's common knowledge that he took a pay cut to sign, which showed his appreciation for the club.

I thought we try to sign him on a perm but Brighton started playing him and he didn't want to come, don't know for sure though.

Fair enough, I am projecting a bit.
