Port Vale 0, Sheffield United 10
1892.
This record will be beaten, or equalled, at some point. I was worried that we were in danger of being on the wrong end of it on a couple of occasions during our last Premier League season.
With the perilous state of things over at S6, do we think the record could go this season?

The way the Premier League is going, it will probably happen sooner or later.
The last time a team scored 10 in a league game was in November 1987 when Man City beat Huddersfield 10-1.
Strangely it was the second time that season as Gillingham beat Chesterfield 10-0 in September 1987.

Not a chance mate unless premier league game

I’m sure a few year back Leicester won 9-0 away at Southampton.

I remember at the time wondering if our record would be beaten.
Think we are the only team to ever hit double figures away,

Leicester just failed but think they equalled the PL highest scoring win record of 9-0.

Closely followed by 0-8 surely. And far more historically relevant.
Never forget the depths of our shitiness. Pigs dine out on it regularly

Since they are so fond of historical results, didn’t they also lose 8-0 to Newcastle in the Premier League, not to mention a 7-1 home defeat to Forest.

There's only been more than 10 goals in a PL games once. An ex-United player scored for the losing side.....

Not PL, but Burnley managed two 11-goal matches in the same level 3 season under Stan Ternent. 5-6 away to Grimsby, and 4-7 at home to Watford. (We lost 2-7 at home to your blue-and-white friends the same season.) I doubt it will happen under Parker.

Best prospect IMO is if Leeds get a bit gung-ho and have a man sent off early. Even then, teams usually ease up before they get to 10.

A game that was played in a blizzard with three or four inches of lying snow on the pitch. Clearly that day one team was full of 'culture carriers' and other just wasn't up for battling the elements.

I seem to recall that in the match immediately before or after their 10-0 drubbing of Chesterfield, Gillingham scored 8.

Just checked, it wasn't successive matches, but successive home matches. They beat Southend 8-1 at home on 29th August, then draw 1-1 away at Wigan in the next match, before beating Chesterfield 10-0 at home on 5th September.

Correct. They beat Southend 8-1 the previous Saturday, however they did draw with Wigan in midweek between the two games.
They still only finished 13th in the league.

Did Port Vale have 11 players? Burnley once (1891) played Blackburn in a blizzard and were winning 3-0 at half time. Only the Blackburn goalkeeper came out for the second half, and he immediately appealed (successfully) for offside (no idea how that worked) and the game was abandoned. Which was a shame, because I'm sure we could have got at least 10!

The story goes that the Port Vale goalkeeper lost his spectacles in the mud.
