I don't know when mine was or the score. All I remember was being at the back of Bramall Lane Upper against Arsenal in their hideous yellow kit and Mel Rees was in goal. Was it 0-0, 1-1 or 0-1?!

It was 18th April 1992. It finished 1-1, Bobby Davison gave us a first half lead and Kevin Campbell equalised after half time.

Just before half time when we were 1-0 up Glyn Hodges almost repeated what Deane had done a month before. Seamen came out of his area to clear the ball on the United left wing and planted it straight at the feet of Hodges about 45 yards out. Hodges sent it straight back, with the ball arcing towards the goal and Seamen desperately running back along with a defender and Bobby Davison. The ball hit the underside of the bar and bounced out. Davison flung himself at the rebound, but headed over.

At that point United and Arsenal were the form teams in the division and Arsenal were the reigning champions. We outplayed them that first half and that moment, on 18th April 1992 between 3pm and 3.45 pm, is for me the high point of my adult life supporting United.

I can't quite remember. About twenty years ago+, at Carrow Road, I have a strong memory that Brian Deane scored was it May 1991?

Darren can you help?

Probably the first game of the 91-92 season. 17th August 1991. Deane put us 1-0 up after about 3 minutes and Colin Hill made it 2-0 with about 13 mins left with a long range shot after a corner was clear. All well and good we thought. Unfortunately Robert Fleck got one back straightaway and then equalised in the last minute :-(

It's significant for me as me and my then partner made a weekend of it in Norfolk. Nine months later my now 21 year old daughter was born.....

Sure was. In the '60s & 70s it was common for the Kop to be heaving with away fans. The Man. City supporters 'took' the back of the Kop and all us chavvies were evacuated to the front. The City fans had the bright idea of lobbing (glass) bottles, trying to hit the upright columns holding the roof up. Those who 'succeeded' had shards of broken glass raining down on us young 'uns.

Ah, the good old days!

You remember that young girl Blade at the bottom of the Kop looking up at a Manc waving a table leg (WTF!) around and she ran up to him and kicked him in the nuts? Brill! :D

1959, home game, won 2-1, I think, Pace scored with a header. Can't remember who and not sure if it was 58-9 season or 59-60. I think it was 59-60 as we had moved to Coal Aston by then.

I know the teams we played at home and won 2-1 but none of them bring back memories so I reckon it could have been a cup game.

It actually could have been the FA Cup game against Norwich which we drew 1-1 and I used to have the programme for that match amongst others from then, until my mum's second husband (pig bastard - sorry, he really was a tw@t) chucked them all out.

Just can't find scorers in those league or cup matches any where.

The only 2-1 home wins where Pace scored in that period were:

27/12/58 Grimsby (Pace, G. Shaw pen)
13/2/60 Scunthorpe (Pace, Lewis)

I had to look those up, as my memory only goes back to 60-61 :-)

16th of April 1974, a night match against Leeds, sat in the bramble lane upper. We lost 2 nil, as a nine year old, I don't remember being that upset. I did just fall in love with the whole atmosphere, floodlights etc.

Thanks Darren - I did try to find somewhere that lists such stats but to no avail. Maybe I saw Pace score after I had my first match. It was deffo 59 though. Cheers

County cup match at Millmoor. One of Tony Currie's last games. He strolled around like he didn't care. Can't remember the score.

1967 reserve game, United v Villa won 5-0

First proper game 1968, night game v Chelsea lost 2-1,
closely followed by Fulham lost 3-2 after being 2-0 up
ended up relegated.

Been going ever since worst luck.

Hilsborough 1968. Mick Hill scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

That was a vintage year for misery ! We in fact led in all three of our last home games and lost all three ! Just a single point from those games would have seen us stay up.

You might have got the games and dates mixed up because as far as I'm aware the sequence was:

23 Apr 1968 Sheffield United v Fulham L 2-3 League Division One

27 Apr 1968 Sheffield United v West Ham United L 1-2 League Division One

11 May 1968 Sheffield United v Chelsea L 1-2 League Division One

My first game was:

06 Mar 1963 Sheffield United v Bolton Wanderers W 3-1 FA Cup

Bramall Lane end, white railings and all that.

For years I had assumed it was a league game but because of the dreadful winter of 1963, it was the 3rd round of the cup !

So I've done 50 years of going down the Lane. When I started we'd never finished lower than 11th in the second division, look at the fucking state of us now :(

Not sure, the first one i remember was against Walsall 1980 i think it was?
The Don Givens missed penalty.

But i may have gone to a few before that weren't so memorable. Seems odd that i would be taken to my first match on the last day of the season.

When and where was the 1st Blades game you went to?
Mine was Blades 1 Wolves 0 ,on 7th April 1975 at BDTBL.
A couple of weeks later we beat Stoke 2-0 at the Lane with Peter Shilton in goal for them, and if I remember he played in all white kit.
31 8 74..united 3 ipswich 1.....Mills og, Field 2.
A Lambert or Johnson pen for them.

You might be thinking of the New Years' Day game in 1974 when we lost 1-2 (Woodward). That was on a Tuesday, but would have been an early kick off (3 day week so no floodlights).

The only home night game against Chelsea in the 70's was Friday 3rd December 1976 when we won 1-0 (Hamilton pen)
That night was sooo cold, the fri night v chelsea. I was sat in lane end upper tier, frozen silly, as my mum sold pies to cockneys and blades down in the stand.

Probably '89 or '90. We were (again) in the Third Division and Norwich were in the top division so nobody gave us much chance. Deane & Agana scored in a tight 3-2 defeat. Away following was fantastic. I remember reading in the programme a few weeks later that some Blades had 'commandeered' a furniture van and travelled down in that!
Early 1989, probably round 3, yes, after wins v Mansfield, thanks to a Tony Kenworthy own goal, and a 3 1 v Donny at belle vue.

Good christ yes. Hudds away in round 3, the belter of an Agana goal from out on t right side!
3 3 v Colchester bottom of div 4 at t lane before Deano dumped them in it at layer rd.

Cheers UnitedBlade, always remembered it as Fulham being the last game,
I stand corrected.

Seem to recall Fulham being already relegated when we played them.

Orient 1978. Sabella's debut. Lost 2-1 after taking an early lead. Been pretty much shit all the way ever since

Took my then girlfriend to that match , have'nt taken a lass to any game since , and nor will I again , look at how the last 30 years have panned out , bloody bad luck I tell ya . ;)

Bone went to Celtic in early 74 just after Furphy became manager. I assume Furphy didn't think he was very good. He was effectively replaced by Tony Field, who Furphy signed from Blackburn (his old club) in March 74.
Bone was homesick and got his wish in returning to Scotland
