EEL has so far been a colossus for us. From the above tweet it would appear CW wants him permanently. I think it will be down to what EEL wants for himself. Not sure if he has been loaned out to get fit or if he is surplus to requirements. Whichever it is he will have to weigh up his best option, go back to a Championship side where he may or may not be a bench warmer or play regularly in a side that this time next season has good chance of being in the Championship. Im sure Wilder wants him. Dont know how long he has on his contact at Wolves but if he wants to come to a club where he is loved/appreciated/wanted then I'd guess he would come in January. The only stumbling block I would see is will McCabe pay their asking price.
 



He is out of contract with wolves end of the season, I'm not surprised Wilder wants to keep him, he's our Maguire replacement at last....
 
I think we will have to pay a fee for him, hopefully it will be small. However if it came between us and Wolves fancying extending him, I suspect despite how well we are doing Wolves are a bigger lure.

He was surplus to requirements at Wolves., think he was 4th choice centre back, well down the pecking order. My Wolves mate said he always had errors in him which tended not to be punished at league 1 level. He thinks his success might be because we're playing a back 3 so Jake Wright is covering his errors.

However now that they have a new manager and the fact that the Wolves denfense don't seem too good
Lambert might decide he wants to give EEL a new chance to impress and invite him back.

You say will McCabe pay the asking price?
Now you know it's not that simple
What if Wolves want £750K for what they view as a reject almost out of contract.
What if EELs agent want him to be the highest paid player at the club on £15K a week?

In the above scenario I'd hope Wilder tells him to take a hike and we look elsewhere.

These options are a curiosity. We saw Hammond unilaterally exercise his to cash-in here when we needed him like a dose of clap. So I struggle to see why contracts include these things unless they demand mutual agreement to be triggered.

What benefit is it to EEL if his employer has an option to extend but he gets no say in it? It just makes it harder for him to leave if he wants to. If he was playing well in their first team then he'd be able to negotiate himself a better deal than he's on now. But if he wants to join us now, this option just puts up a barrier.
 
Wolves probably arent that bothered about keeping him as they probably think he not quite at the level where they see themselves with the level of investment that they have going on. Not saying that he wont ever get to top end championship level, in fact i think he has all the tools necessary to make that level and push on further, but Wolves are looking at the here and now and the new manager knows he needs results now - the wolves job isnt a long term get by and build steadily type of job. So my instinct is saying EEL and all his rough edges and promise will be available. They are simply protecting an investment and will no doubt be telling CW that they have a lot of interest in him from other clubs and will be extending his contract (even if they arent they are gunna tell a buying club that they are planning to do so to drive the price up). Bottom line is Utd clearly want him, wolves will sell, but Utd need to be cute so that they get the best deal they can as wolves will also play a game of bluff. Utd have more to lose as he is in our first team and hes surplus at wolves, and they know it. Chuck in the fact that other teams might me interested in him also, and the agent will want his cut and it makes it a very delicate situation for CW to handle. He has already played the 'let the local press know that we are interested in others card' so the game of bluff and counter bluff is on. Personally i think he will come and i hope he does. Thankfully if the lad has his head screwed on right he will crawl over broken glass to stay at the Lane long term and will help make it happen at an agreeable price all round. Utd need to be decisive and try and make it happen early January or be prepared to move on if Wolves play silly buggers. No more pandering to players and being someone elses bitch in the transfer and contract market ala MacDonald and Danny Wilson.

The benefit to players who give the club the option on the contract extension is that they probably get a better deal on their take home pay if they are prepared to give the club security on their investment in the player. The club know they arent commiting themselves to that extra year of wages at initial contract signing day and will usually give the agent and the player a bit extra during the mutually agreed contract time as a sweetener. Likewise if the player wants the option then it depends on how desperate the club are to get that player on board. He plays well he can say im off unless you make it worth my while to stick around, and conversely he plays crap he says i will invoke my contract option and have another years pay and then you can either live with me and pay me over the extension period or you pay me off (like Hammond did). I personally fail to see why any club would weight the contract extension option in the footballers favour as they look completely desperate and the player knows it. Thanks again Mr Endeavour/Robustness. Did us up like a kipper with that one.

Cheers, so the assumption is EEL is on good money at Wolves on the basis of the short tenure. That might cause us some bother.
 
What we need to remember is that EEL isn't a player who has jumped onto Wilder's radar this year, he is one who Wilder has been tracking for quite some time, way before his time as gaffer with us.

If he can sign EEL then I am in no doubts that he will sign him but it isn't solely down to us is it....It is also down to the player and his parent club.

Fingers crossed though.

I would imagine hes on a fairly decent contract but nothing outrageous as Utd are probably picking up a large percentage of his existing contract right now. I think it will be negotiable and he will probably take a signing on fee and a smaller monthly take home pay over a longer contract period as a compromise, with probably a percentage increase and further bonus if promotion is achieved. I dont see the contract of the player as the main issue on this one, more so the agent touting for a better deal from lower league championship clubs and wolves doing likewise. The lad will want to come.

Let's imagine EEL is on £6K a week at Wolves. United will match it or offer a bit more.
We may also pay Wolves a decent transfer fee, up to £500K.

However the sensible approach may backfire and not be good enough.

There could well be some really desperate rogue Championship clubs driving up to price to madness levels.
United might be told that other clubs are offering £1 million and a salary of £15K a week.

Now do we blow the budget on 1 defender deemed not good enough by his parent club
And pay him triple the salary of his defensive SU colleagues, risking bad feeling and jealousy.

No.... United need to think of the budget, stick to it and not get involved in an auction.
I'm sure Wilder will have plan B and plan C just in case Wolves and the agent play silly buggers.

As ever a big influence whether we get EEL will be the player himself.
If he really wants to come then he will.
If he more concerned with money (like many players) then we could struggle.
 
Much as I think he's a stand out player at this level, come the end of the season we could be shopping in a different market. If things go as we hope then EEL wouldn't be what he is now; the best we can realistically sign. The main thing for me is to keep him tied down to us for the rest of this season. We shouldn't go overboard and sign him on a lengthy contract unless the price is right.
 



Sheffsteel, I see your figurative numbers as viable and I also see the possibility of Champs clubs coming in too. When this was previously discussed I speculated that there would not be a club (even Champs) who could compete and to prove it to myself I checked the table. It was a shock! There are many clubs easily as attractive and with more financial clout who could prove troublesome Villa and Derby being just 2 off the top of my head.

Roundly agree but what happens come the end of January we are 6 points clear, top of the league, looking nailed on for promotion? Taking him out could be a crushing blow, then what do we do? Could have our hand forced.
 
More Oliver Tebily than Maguire, I agree with the Wolves fan about having a mistake in him but as he develops this will become less and less. If only we could have Maguire and EEL, now that would be something.

We convince EEL and Wolves to agree to extend the loan to the end of the season. Then IF we win promotion and IF Macabe's tale of that's when the game changing money will arrive is true then you would hope we could then afford to make moves to a permanent deal.

Expecting to sort out a permanent deal before then is looking a long shot.

The above is what I expect to happen.

However United might try to be creative and sign him this JTW.

It's obvious EEL won't want to commit to possible league 1 football next season especially if there's interest from the Championship in the JTW. So United might say we'll pay £6K now and increase it to £9K next season.

However if we fail to gain promotion next season then we'll agree to a Kevin McDonaldeque clause where will will agree to sell him to any Championship club for £30K which would then enable him to negotiate a big salary at his next club and they'll be plenty of takers if the transfer fee was only £30K.

It would be a big risk for United, gambling on getting promoted this season.

Another possibility is United agree a pre contract transfer fee and agree the pre contract salary starting in June17 totally dependent on promotion. This willl mean United don't get involved in an auction during the Summer.

It would be even more readable with the odd bit of punctuation and an occasional paragraph. I got out of breath just reading his stuff.

I know I am old/dull/tiresome but the English language has evolved over hundreds of years for good reasons.

I like EEL but don't know if his good enough for the Championship . I think it would better to keep him on loan till the end of the season myself.
