Playing where?

There will be a superb modern international stadium shortly coming free on the Northern side of the city. It may need some minor attention as the current owners are about to go out of business and haven't recently prioritised the ground.

It may also need a deep clean and specialist tarpaulin removal contractors......

I can’t think of any superb modern international stadiums in that vicinity

I think there’s a rusty old death trap though, which would need tearing down and the rubble fumigating before a full rebuild.

Oh come come dear boy!

It was going to be the leading stadium in the FA's ill fated 2022 World Cup bid.

It regularly has 50,000 attending and is one of the most popular grounds for other fans to visit, according to recent polls on Deluded-Inc.

We've already freed up some cash by selling Brooks
We've brought in Egan (Who knows how much for), An unproven kid from Man City, A unproven kid on loan from Liverpool and a fairly uninspiring Centre Forward.

We've not brought in anything that we wouldn't have pretty much expected had we not sold Brooks. As Wilder says the Brooks money has not been touched

There is a simple realism here that we cannot compete with many in the division. Yet again the boardroom at the lane comes up with a way of buggering up a good thing. This time with a divided ownership which won't be resolved anytime soon. Well done keV, how the fuck you managed to build a business empire baffles me.

So the owners won't invest and we don't have parachute payments, so the only cash will come from sales. Then it will only be a portion of the sale fee, so realistically we sell, reinvest less and get weaker.

Mid to upper table will be a success for CW this season whilst the teams that are living beyond thier means or off parachute payments bet thier futures on 3 promotion spots.

I find it very depressing that teams like Villa spend with no regard to the future only for another set of billionaires to come along and bail them out.

My prediction is no more incomings and a frustrating continuation of the 2nd half of last season.

I suspect Villa keep finding buyers because they’re a genuinely big club that has won a number of trophies in my lifetime including the European Cup.

Maybe Wilder grasps the fact that we don't have the funds to sign "big money players". Even at this level. There's quite a few on here can't grasp it.

How can you pay "the going rate" if the going rate is more than you can afford?

Now that’s a different question and deserving of a different answer.

Is the issue that we “can’t” pay the going rate or “won’t”?

I’m not advocating silly borrowings of money but if we wanted to we could, is my view. We don’t want to. It’s a “won’t” rather than a Can’t”.

We think it’s not necessary to pay above the glass ceiling we’ve set because it’s worked for us not to do so up until now. To change that thinking will take failure. In order to force a re-evaluation.

We had an amazing season last season. Beyond all expectations. Wilder seems to think that the same can happen again without strengthening the squad significantly. It can’t. Look at our contemporaries this close season. Derby, Boro, Norwich, Stoke, Forest. Look at what they are spending. As an independent commentator on Sky or was it BBC? said:

“We don’t think Sheffield Inited have really strengthened this summer”

And we haven’t. Not compared to them we are competing with.

That’s a problem!

Borrow money? Where from?

A continuing loss making business, owners in a legal battle.

We borrow money, spend it, doesn't work out, we still have to repay it from possibly lower income. Shit hits the fan.

Are you really being serious?

People who run their own lives in a nice solvent manner drop their prudent leanings where footie is concerned. This also includes Chairmen (like Mark Goldberg, Simon Jordan and others), who have pissed away small fortunes on overpaid footballers who haven't delivered.

Sense goes out of the window and specualtive spending suddenly becomes 'investment'. In any other industry an investment is something that is assessed on definite payback and financial return. Only in footie does 'investing' mean taking a punt.

Are you really being serious?

Do you know, I think he probably is.

I will guarantee you that some of our players will be straight on the blower to agents to see what’s out there.
