The defence - I'm confused

Every time the ball was in our half in the second half I feared the worst. McEveley keeps getting under it. Brayford won some good balls, but also dived in. Does Morgan count as playing staff?

It's just such an obvious issue, especially with the lack of height in other areas of the pitch.

When does the loan window close?

Don't worry he'll go out and bring a few more journeyman midfielders

No Morgan needs sacking . Anybody knows what he does . Lets get over the Morgan great captain , sentiments . Get someone in who can coach the back four in football basics . Also the spine of the team is not there . albeit We have just brought in Davies .

If Morgan does the U21 , why is he taking up room in the dug out.

I always thought the rule was you build a successful team around a goalkeeper , CH and CF.

Does anyone know if we can use the loan window for a CH.

Clough is paying a bit of lip service to the problem now but it's been the same all season. He's had all campaign to get it sorted but in his eyes it's never been a priority so I can't see him bring in 1 let alone 2 centre halves now.

Don't see how the problem is down to Morgan, he's a coach not a miracle worker, don't think the best coach in the world can turn average full backs into competent centre halves. He'd have half a chance if Clough started bringing in a couple of round pegs for round holes.

A right back and a left back struggling to play centre back who would have guessed that.

Clough attempted to sort the problem by signing a centre back who did not even train with squad. Then wondered why McCarthy's performances were so poor. Not sure many of us actually paid much attention to how daft McCathys loan arrangement was at the time.

Failure this season will be totally based on Cloughs failure to sort his back 4 out properly.

I'm sure Morgs coaches them the basics Lord Bos, just can't add those extra inches. Agree with your sentiments about building a successful team.

as to why our manager doesn't see the HUGE issue we have at centre back. Every high ball causes panic.

Glad to see the penny has dropped with some people.(not a go at the original poster btw)

Maguire had his problems, so did Collins but they were a TEAM and it worked. never particularly liked Collins and Maguire was slow, but at this level it was adequate to go up this season with a pair of decent full backs. Alcock and harris/Mcevrley would have been fine, with Brayford the cherry on the top.

We haven't replaced Maguire and with the fiasco over Butler, the lack of 2 x decent centre halves in any shape of form have caused all of the problems we now have.

Just staggers me that people have gone on all season about a centre forward, where the old cliché is "don't concede, don't lose"

If Clough is culpable this season it is for completely forsaking the bedrock of the team - Centre halves.

Have supported Clough from day 1, but the lack of centre halves and the continued reasons we now have to endure is shocking.

Basham is average at best, Mceverly is a shocking Centre half, Kennedy is still learning but may never be fit enough to play a full season. Mcgahey is just raw and after a poor to average start seems to have lost all measure of confidence.

Sticking Bash or Doyle in front would have been a great core and strength to the team.

The starting point in ANY team is a decent goal keeper (which we have) and 2 (play most weeks) centre halves. We haven't had it and hence all the crap and moaning we have ended up with......and just to finish..........yet ANOTHER ball into the box and we concede.

Rant over.

The oddest thing about the CH situation is the fact that an experienced manager doesn't realise that you can't have a centre back pairing of two players for whom it's not their natural position. You could probably get away with playing one there, but they need to be partnered by someone with experience. How they're meant to have the natural positioning and awareness which comes from years of experience is beyond me.

Teams are increasingly sussing out this weakness and exploiting it.

I reckon, if you looked at all the goals we've conceded this season, the majority would be down to issues which stem from not having natural CBs

I thought Brayford attacked the ball well yesterday and tried to dominate and easily eclipsed McEverly in terms of performance. It's not ideal but,if NC doesn't get a centre half in,Kennedy (when fit) playing alongside Brayford might work as Kennedy is vocal and organises well. Freeman would be fine at right back.

Just looking for some positives from yesterday (other than the good performance by Steve Davies)

The possible departure of Maguire was covered (or so we thought). A back four of: Alcock, Butler, Collins & Harris should have been adequate to get us out of this league. McEveley, Kennedy & McGahey for cover.
I've no idea what went on pre-season but we're still seeing the fallout 8 months on. Awful from set-pieces (at both ends), and any number of cheap goals conceded. The panic signing of McCarthy was a joke.
Someone at the top should be banging heads together, because this clash of egos has ultimately cost us promotion.

absolutely, 100% correct - can someone at Radio Sheffield please ask Clough why this is so??

Are there no loan players at prem or Champ level who we can sign on loan? Just get someone in and pair him with Basham if needed
- just go and get SOMEONE...........before it is too late.

We did enough at Scunny to win if we hadn't given away another simple, easily defended ball into the box, IF there was the remotest chance that we could win the first header.
