The Death of the fucking ‘Flat 3’

Bang on the money Matt. According to some we look like a mid to lower championship team. Nuts
I agree we shouldn't have any worries about next season. Even throughout this monstrosity of a season, we've still dominated lower league and lower-end Prem teams quite comfortably. We just have to sort this creativity/goal problem out though if we want to bounce back. It wouldn't be so annoying if the tried and tested solution wasn't staring Wilder in the face. I do feel we will probably go back to it next year though.

I’m in a generous mood, saw it as keeping a bit of control over the game to see it out whilst saving legs. In reality they chucked quick forwards on, gambled and pressed and it went a bit tonto for 10 mins.
He should have taken Lundstram off.

It was all so half-hearted from him.

I mentioned in shoutbox.

He does that unnecessary roll forward of the ball when he has a chance to cross as if it makes him look some sort of big time player then puts a shit cross in.

He also does that lazy leg swing as he plays a pass to nothing backwards to pass on the responsibility to someone else to make things happen.

He did great last year running out of his skin. But he's certainly not a player that can play within himself.

Only time I saw urgency was in the second half when he played another casual pass on the right hand side and lost it and he thought he'd better run a bit to try and stop them breaking.

Just to reiterate this is a guy playing against a Bristol City team in poor form, who has played most of our games in midfield and still hasn't scored this season. You'd think he'd be busting a gut to get on the scoresheet.

We also saw the best and worse of Burke in one move. Pace took the ball off the keeper then attempted to score from an almost impossible angle totally lacking the vision to see Fleck wide open, unmarked with the goal at his mercy.

I expect that a premier league club should be able to beat a championship club, and if it does not, it’s fucking embarrassing.

I don’t think that’s a particularly controversial opinion.
Premier league clubs would/should be favourites yes, but to say if they don't beat a team from 1 division below is 'fucking embarrassing' to me comes across is very arrogant.

He did play that way for genk, was part of 2 man pivot though with a back 4.
I agree completely he can play deep as a 2 that’s sitting and maybe even as a one in another system. I’m just not sure he has the passing range yet to play there for us because of what we ask that player to do. It might come he might develop that skill set but he doesn’t have it yet. Even if he does develop that we still need to recruit another player there to cover/compete with him it would also allow us to play a double pivot if we wanted too.

Indeed, it’s massive gulf. Which makes it all the more embarrassing if they have to work hard to get a win.
I don't think as a fanbase we should go into a championship season with a Man City attitude.

We all know as how difficult the championship is and you always have to work hard for a win.

I agree but we changed that role when we signed Norwood, Coutts barely played any passes longer than 10 yds.

I said this on another thread but the fact that the flat 3 worked at first, has fucked us in the long run. We need to get back to attacking, creative football because not only is it blatantly not working any more, it's absolutely fucking crap to watch.
We need to win games now and we have 3 Midfielders who can't score. Totally agree. Acceptable when Lunny was getting 5 or 6, but I'd rather the additional forward.

Well, next season we’ll be a championship team, playing other championship teams.

lundstram is a total waste of space and hasnt given a shit all season and dont mind anybody coming on here and telling me im wrong he completely slows our momentum down constantly by turning backwards the sooner hes out of the club the better

What worries me is that we seem to struggle to score in open play, sure we create chances but rarely finish them. There‘re better teams than an out of form 10th placed Bristol in the championship who will offer more and defend just as well. Next pre-season I will be shocked if wilder doesn’t change something to address this because we are running the risk of becoming predictable and stagnant, rather than progressive and front foot.

It makes sense in so may ways.

Norwood and Lundstram have not been good this season, so we don't have to play them both.

When Norwood does play, It'll mean someone plays at the side of him rather than him getting over run as the only "pivot".

It allows us to play through McGoldrick even while having McBurnie on the pitch (instead of booting it to his noggin).

It should in theory mean more goals, which is the main thing we've struggled with.

It'll be better to watch....

To those saying it’s not embarrassing. Yes we got the win, yes if we hadn’t had a penalty we’d have had a goal instead.

but it’s not like we sat back and defended the lead. We kept going, and Bristol City didn’t park the bus either. We simply failed to break a ten man team down. I think that’s pretty embarrassing.

If you don’t then i’m sorry your standards aren’t that high.

I took lots of positives from that. We totally controlled a team challenging the Play Offs.

Weve got absolutely no issues next season if we keep the squad. The bit that we lack is the confidence infront of goal. That comes from winning games.
The gulf between the divisions is massive.

Funny how people see things differently isn't it.

They have so many injuries and people just not fit. That's nowhere near a full Bristol City side. it's a miracle they're anywhere near the play-offs and they certainly didn't play like a top-half Championship team fighting for a quarter final place in the cup.

Bristol City are one of the worst form teams in the division looking at the scores in recent weeks.

Your right. Lundstram’s an arsehole & so is McBurnie.
