If Monty doesn't figure in Wilson's plans (and he probably doesn't), Wilson will tell him this and tell Monty he might like to look for a new club rather than being stuck on the bench/in the reserves all season. The problem would be that NM would struggle to find a club willing to pay him what he is on at United, so, as you say, we might end up having to pay him a lump sum if lieu of the difference between his current contract and any new contract he gets with another club.

I've always thought of Monty as someone who loves to play the game, so hopefully he'll be willing to terminate if he's told there's no football for him here.

That said, the very fact that Danny started him in the final suggests he rates him at least a little bit. But he must have seen the display he put in. Monty's wages could theoretically pay for 3 better players at this level!

I had a bash at a guestimate at the wage bill to get it to nearly 5 million

Long ...................£2,500
Howard ............. £4,500
Lowton .............. £4,000
Maguire ............ £3,500
Collins ............... £5,500
LJF .................... £3,000
Morgan ............. £13,000
Flynn ................. £3,500
Montgomery ..... £12,500
Doyle ................. £5,500
Quinn ................ £14,000
McAllister .......... £2,000
Harriot .............. £2,000
Tonne ................ £2,000
Cresswell ........... £12,500
Porter ................ £5,500

Weekly Total £95,500
Annual £4,966,000

If were saying that turnover will be £10,000,000 this season and the wage bill has to be 65% of that, then thats £6,500,000 meaning the club has £1,500,000 to play with.

Thats room for 5 players on £5000 a week, the average weekly salary in League One is £1400*. When the pigs were signing decent players from League One clubs I chuckled, I get why they were doing it now. A club of our size can hoover up the talent from this league.

Just a thought (I've not read through all the rules, so please don't shoot me down here), but what financial year will the 65% rule be applied on? I assume it will be 65% of the budgeted turnover to give a budgeted figure for wages (i.e. £10m turnover budget, £6.5m wage budget) but is it possible that it is based on the previous years turnover?

I think your estimates are fairly accurate. You may have to add Philliskirk, Kennedy, Chappell, and some more kids (like Willis, Whitehouse, Barry, McFadzean, Ironside) although they won't be on too much. Wonder how much we've offered McDonald and Williamson though? How much would be left to play with IF they signed?

In that case, as it seems unlikely Morgan will play again he needs to announce his retirement and his appointment as a full time coach (on the same salary) to free up a bit more money.

It's what i was thinking as well. I'd imagine 'a bit' would equate to well over half a million.

Revised a couple of wages and added (optimistically) McD and Willo to the list. Just under a million left.

So pay Morgan £12k/week as a coach, and £1k a week as a player????
Be interesting if that was the case then we could sign them all as player coaches and make the wages for the player side of things smaller and satisfy the rules - simple

We HAVE to come to some arrangement with Monty to leave, even if it involves taking a hit man to get him off the books.

I wouldn't even charge for the service.

I think Lowton and Maguire are the only "bargains" left at the club and will be sacrificed on the altar of "Good business". Although after the last play-off failures good business deal it may have to be broken to us in different language this time.

Not quite the FL site refers to playing staff therefore player coaches total salaries would count towards the cap.

What happened to that blog post from a few months back that laid out in painstaking detail exactly how screwed we are?

That might come in handy now.
