did anyone ever see him sing?

When?
Where?
Any good?

Of course, it's Colin Grainger... but you all knew that.

I thought it was a grown up Baby Grumpling from The Perishers...

No, but I saw him play many times and he was brilliant.

The only English player ever to score two goals against Brazil but didn't even get a mention in the shit book 'Blades
Legends' - but Duggie Hodgson and Pesch did. FFS

Brilliant player, predominately an outside left.
Once saw him play with a pot on his arm after a break.
Went onto play for England.
As in all cases someone waived a cheque so off he went, if memory serves me correctly he went to Sunderland.
He was also popular as a good singer..

Blades crowds were always excited by his play and speed down the wing.

Good memories of his time at the Lane.

I was rarely ill as a kid, but I was at home that day ( 1956), and I got to see the game on TV (it was an afternoon game). I think my illness was genuine. I recall being very proud that United had a player in the England team, alongside some all-time greats, and annoyed because Hodgy was in the squad, but didn't make the team. I think he made his debut that year. Grainger was sold soon after; 'twas ever thus.

Yes saw him singing at Attercliffe Radical WMC, Sunday dinner then Sunday night. He had a good voice and was clapped loudly at the end of his act by the Blades in the audience and reluctantly by the Wendy's.

Me too but my illness wasn't genuine - I just thought fuck 'em, if any one thinks I'm going to miss out on watching England v Brazil with a Blade in our team as opposed to doing double Maths, Geography and double Chemistry they can go fuck themselves.

I think it was a Wednesday afternoon, as was the famous drubbing by the fabulous Hungarian side which I also watched ( both in black and white, of course )

Happy Days.

Attercliffe Radical WMC. Now there's a name to conjure with.

I wonder what they were being radical about.?

It is difficult to remember what a treat live TV football was: Cup Final and international Friendlies was about it. The Home Nations competition was on a Saturday afternoon, so those games weren't shown, I think. Were there any others? (As I typed 'Were there', my spellcheck changed it to Werthers - how about that for ageism?) The major change, I think, came with European Cup matches under floodlights, on ITV in midweek.

We were proper socialists in them days, we were going to get the working man up the ladder of life and change the world. Sadly being radical these days involves standing round a tree stopping Amey cutting it down.;)
