The Brooks Conundrum

What am I on about ? Ok , I'll see if I can make this any clearer for you.

Firstly , you really struggle to see footballing talent when it's right in front of you .

Secondly , you almost always direct abuse of a personal nature to any other poster who has the temerity to disagree with you .

Thirdly , in light of point one , your view is the final and defining word in any discussion according to you . And if it isn't, see point two .

I guess the point I'm trying to convey is this . Tone your posts down a little bit as you come across as a twat who hasn't got a fucking clue .

Im sure inin the real world aren't like that at all .
I don’t know if you’re trying to talk in morse code but your grammar makes your posts impossible to make out.

I struggle to see talent in front of me?? How exactly?

Point two is complete tosh, it’s when they keep going on and on, like yourself.

Point three is also complete crap. Unsurprisingly.

You can't understand the points I make but you've disagreed with them anyway .

I rest my case :D:D:D

Just when we get a manager with the balls to stand up and say that he's actually building a team here we are discussing weather to sell off the "potential" jewel in the crown..

people are coming to the lane to see brooks and a successful team, the crowds grow and brooks excites more than any player since James Beattie.... why on earth wouldn't you want to see this type of player in a red and white shirt and a full bramall lane on its feet...

I'll never get tired of being in the top three with full houses, winning games and standing ovations... let's keep the lad and finally put Sheffield United first ... for once..

I don’t need to back anything up, you brought Carruthers up on a thread about David Brooks and totally sidetracked it.

Because when someone disagrees with you, you revert to some smoke-and-mirrors misdirection and start bringing places of work etc into it. Then, days later, you offer up another opinion that is completely at odds with another you made. Like it or not, other United players are relevant to Brooks. Deane and Fjortoft also got a mention, I see. At least you got your custom title right, though

I brought your employer into it literally once, let’s not exaggerate.

Carruthers and Brooks are incomparable in terms of career progression, quite frankly. I don’t think Carruthers is that good, you obviously do, I don’t care. That’s literally all there is to it.

Did I say it was more than once? This is literally a discussion forum. If you can’t handle it, maybe it’s not the place for you

Just to boil down the OP, I would love to see him stay as part of a promotion winning squad, but if it was the difference between going up or not would you let him go based on current performance and not future potential.
As Eddiecolquhounsleg rightly points out, it's impossible to predict the future, but at some point tough business decisions need to be made.
OOOOoooooooo, thank you mosbolad :)

Will do Dan. One day, I hope to get even close to your level, blending precision, insight, humility and wit so perfectly. If you’ve any tips, it’d be an honour!

If we can get 5 million or more for him ..... sell . I'm still far from convinced about him .
Five Million !!! That'd be an absolute steal & a travesty, and who could we buy for that amount that would a) fit into our wages strategy & b) excite the fans at the same level as DB does. So, he's some way to go with his development but far more exciting (if a slight tad of a gamble) to see that development unfold for us. The lad's got summat special that's for sure.

I'm not convinced about the necessity of a comma after 'One day'?

Firstly, my wholehearted congratulations to David Brooks on his first international cap.
Now, onto what will undoubtably be a controversial statement.
At the start of the season we all wanted, and have now seen, some of 'what he can do in a red and white shirt' before losing him to the big boys, or Everton.
So the question for me is, now that his stock has risen again with the international game under his belt, should we cash in in January?
I thought last night against France, he looked out of his depth and have thought so on a number of occasions in the league games in which he's played. I think he's still a way off being the player he could/will be and dare I say it, the player many people think he already is, but the Hillsborough nutmeg and Leeds winner apart, I don't think we've seen a huge amount of 'accomplished all round quality player' stuff or 'game changing player' outcomes....yet.
That being said, I still think he has huge potential and has already shown that he has great talent and a smart footballing brain with the ability to do something 'a bit special' but I'm tempted to think we might just be better off taking the money in January.
I think at the moment DB is more of an entertaining luxury than a game changer and if we were to get some crazy bid of, say, 30 million which could be used to bring in the necessary replacements to takes us up, it would have to be worth it wouldn't it?
I know there'd be no guarantee but surely, being in such a good position with all our good luck and momentum this season, we could utilise the money to sort the final pieces of the promotion jigsaw.
From what I've seen of him so far, David Brooks could go on to become world class. He could also hit his effectiveness level very soon, so what should it be? Stick and hopefully see him help us gain promotion and see him potentially further develop with us or twist to cash in and develop the squad, as we did with the so-called Calvert-Lewin money?
Sadly, for me it has to be the money.

I know your scenario is hypothetical, but realistically no one is going to offer anything like that for Brooks at the moment and I don't think we need anything like that kind of money spent on the current squad and I doubt we'd spend that, even if we did have such money.

I can see us maybe splashing out £2 million max in Jan, and that would be two or three players not one. I'd be happy with that because I think the current squad is good enough to stay in the top 6 as it is. I think that adding some more youth and pace up front, and bringing in another quality midfielder, would strengthen the team and improve our chances of auto.

As for Brooks, well...I think he is something special tbh. I think he's still got a long way to go of course but already he's good enough to cause teams a real problem, especially when he's attacking from deep at pace. I think he's only going to get better with more games and as he starts to fill out physically. His exposure to top level international football is going to be a great education for him as well. I didn't see his performance v France but I read that he was impressive? If he can impress against one of the best football teams in the world then that's an indication of what he can do.

The way I think about Brooks is, his stock is only going to rise further. Someone might pay £10M for him today but give it a couple more seasons, particularly if we get to the Prem, and he'd be worth more than double that. So, we'd be crazy to contemplate an offer for him now. I know in the past we would have got him sold off quick. But I think times have changed down there. I'm sure McCabe will still have an itchy finger on his wallet, looking to cash in on young talent, because that's how he's ran the club for the past number of years since we left the Prem. But I think even McCabe will be looking at the current league table and at the future value of Brooks and thinking - "stick" rather than "twist" this time. And I think he'll risk upsetting Wilder if he sells him in Jan, and I'm certain of all things that he won't want to do that.

Good post CB. I enjoyed reading that. Also nice that I wasn't left feeling like I'd just shat in someone's cornflakes!

Good job we have no measurable comparision so we don't all think 'he wouldn't would he?'

Read it aloud, with the pause it works. Effect, you see. :)

And capitalise The Star. Never mind - you can't have everything, I guess :D

Is this some sort of poor man's Haiku? Still reckon you are trying to smuggle in an errant comma!!!!...........o_O

It would help if I had even mentioned The Star in the quote.......:D

Any road up......... About Brooks! :)

Second bit was adding to your comment to Dan. Brooks is a class act but if offers start rolling in nudging £20m, that'll take some rejecting.

Not if our leaders have their sensible head on. Whatever bids come in January, he could be worth double or treble in 12 months, even if a £20m bid came in.

Easy to say that as a fan. As an owner, when you're leaking money year by year, I imagine it's more difficult taking gambles on ifs, buts and maybes.
