Please see here and below... http://aunitedview.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/the-blades-big-sky-bill.html

So it started with a tweet

and with the added thoughts and support of fellow Blade Luke Prest the idea has germinated to this......

As you have no doubt seen, Sky TV have chose our trip to Southend to be televised. This has resulted in a change of date and kick off from 3:00 pm on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday - a traditional footballing date - to 7:45 pm on the following Wednesday.
Time and time again, Sky do this to clubs across the land. The feelings, finances and desires of supporters is never once considered when these decisions are made by TV companies.

Sheffield to Southend is no short trip,. With it being the Bank Holiday, large numbers of United will have booked hotels, travel, match tickets etc. well in advance in anticipation of a long weekend or just a good day out by the Essex seaside. These plans and not so insignificant financial commitments are now ruined or increased further by the decision of Sky to change the day and time of the fixture at just 5 weeks notice. But not just that, moving the match from a Bank Holiday - which makes it much easier for fans to attend - to a midweek night.

So what can we, as fans, do about this? The idea we are mooting is that the cost of Sky's action is calculated as a whole on behalf of all Blades and issued, by way of an open letter/invoice to Sky. Seeking recompense for individual fans is probably stretching it, but instead we propose the total cost incurred by fans is settled by way of a donation to a nominated Sheffield charity. We can set up a vote so Blades fans can choose the recipients, assuming Sky see fit to pay.

So we ask that if you had made arrangements for the Southend match prior to Sky's rearranging of the fixture, you detail them by replying to this post, completing the Contact Form in the sidebar to the right of this post or by emailing [email protected] where they will be collated. We will then issue a total 'invoice' from us, the supporters of Sheffield United.

Please include your name, address, and details of any costs you have incurred as a result of the change in fixture - these could be lost wages, cancelled hotels, re-booking of train tickets etc. If you haven't already booked, don't feel left out. Can you demonstrate that the cost of travel have changed to your financial detriment? The key factor is that whatever we include has to be credible and real.

Please try and email/reply by Sunday 24th January and assuming we have a good response we will issue the bill early next week.

Just think what a small but ultimately powerful message this could provide. The Star have expressed interest in the idea, there were plenty of calls to Football Heaven tonight so we will make sure Radio Sheffield are aware of the plan and we will be letting the Football Supporters Federation know as well. For a small amount of your time in sending us the details you can demonstrate your anger and frustration at the contempt and ignorance shown to you, whilst hopefully helping a local charity benefit.

We are not the only fans to suffer from late notice fixture changes, with the cost implications and inconvenience that they cause. Hopefully other clubs' fans might see this and follow suit, or find their own ways to challenge the status quo. Football without fans is nothing. Football matches without away fans are sterile, muted, dispassionate events. It shouldn't have to be that way.
Thanks and Up The Blades.

Brilliant idea Presty. I've shared it on social media. Not going myself but know loads who have already planned it

Good idea.

Or everyone just plans to attend as they would have, plan a mass SUFC incursion, encourage all our 'element' to attend, get the old 'boys' out of retirement, have a right Beano, put social media into meltdown over what will happen and get the locals thinking of the Mod vs. Rockers arrivals in the 60s...

That would make the Old Bill have kittens, as Bank Holiday is double time, and they won't be able to get Southend to pay. Old plod may then just be able to influence Sky....

"Jose Baxter's having a party, bring your vodka and your ......"

I think, that while it is a nice idea, and hopefully it will be successful, fans need to be reimbursed. Sky needs to be transparent about it. It wouldn't be hard. They should have a system where you can claim back expenses, because it's flatly unfair any other way. It would be pretty obvious if you were planning to go to the game - travel and accommodation booked for the right time, and you are almost certainly going to be a member of the football club, aren't you? So what more proof would you need?

In any case, best of luck, it's a really nice idea and would be a great gesture to one of many deserving charities I'm sure will be nominated.

All the best with this initiative. Hope it gets plenty of high profile publicity.

I'm absolutely fuming with sky's arrogance here. Murdoch's brave new world.

Maybe one of those online petition thingy's should be started up too to make Sky at least pick their games at the start of the season, not after supporters have made travel arrangements (some flying in from Germany) and booked hotels. If it is good enough for Jean Hatchet! Even pigs and L**ds fans were on radio Sheffield saying how unfair it was on fans, I think a petition would get a lot of support from fans of other clubs all over the country

Brilliant initiative Presty. Will share on social media though not out of pocket myself.

I would nominate the Childrens hospital for the charity. Lets get this trending to make a point and push some positivity into the world. And make Sky squirm.

As bad as it sounds, they won't give a flying fuck. Imagine if they started refunding money for one fixture, every time a fixture is moved they would have to fork out, just wouldnt happen.

Look at FC United, they complained to the FA, to BT Sport, publically condemned both, had a protest, stood in front of their cameras with flags so they couldn't record the game from two of their main cameras and still nothing happened. They just don't give enough of a fuck and a few hundred people threatening to cancel / sending them a bill won't change their mind.

People will say "if someone doesn't do something, nothing will change" but the fact is, nothing will change full stop regardless. Sky have the monopoloy and always will as the clubs get too rich from it and very few clubs will openly disagree with sky for fear of losing out on the money. You should lobby with SUFC to lobby against Sky, the only way anything will ever change is when clubs start standing up for the fans and even then, there will always be clubs who put money, exposure and profit before its fans.

Respect to the guys actually trying to change something tho, much respect!

There are a couple of differences here though.

One this fixture is for a Bank Holiday away fixture at a seaside town for a team with a big away following. They are moving it with less than five weeks notice and, given its a long way, a religious bank holiday when nearly everyone is off work and a seaside town, many will have booked travel and accomodation. More so than usual.

Secondly I think Presty has pulled off a masterstroke with his charity idea. Not only could this help raise money for and the profile of a local charity, it also means this is not a refund campaign. It gives it more traction and it is therefore more likely to be picked up and published by at least local press - then because of this and the charity angle it becomes a potential reputational risk for sky should they say no.

In order for.that to be so.though it needs as much publicity as possible. I think it's a great idea.

Fantastic initiative. I'll be supporting and sharing all the way.

I'd go one furthur though and try to ensure no Blades fan is watching this match on Sky Sports. Go there in person or listen on the radio, but don't give them the satisfaction of hearing about a campaign and still getting decent ratings.

Not just sky in my opinion, rip into the football league as well, in fact give United a dig in the ribs also.
The money comes in handy for united I know, but it's not on.
Charlton players reimbursed the fans for their embaressing show at Huddersfield I think it was.
Just an idea.
