He's a talented player, but we've been changing the way we play to accommodate him for over a season now.

I think the team as a whole is better without him in it, and for all his skill, shooting and passing ability, the negatives in his play mean he should be used as an impact sub and not a starter. The only formation I can see him really working in is if he's given an entirely free role like David Silva, but he has to put a regular shift in like Silva. We've also not got the midfield to accommodate that.

Only difference Man City have a world class player in Silva in the premiership . SUFC have Baxter and we are in Division 3. Not comparing apples against apples

Every team needs a playmaker pulling the strings. If it's not Baxter I'm not sure who will do it but the opportunity is there; the role is up for grabs.

Contenders: J.Wallace. Cuvelier. Baxter. Reed. Scougall.

Playing 4-4-2 all things considered I reckon it should be one from that group. The outstanding choice is Reed but Clough has to be careful with him at his age.

Wallace not fit. Cuvelier likewise. Scougall just a bit part player.

4-5-1 fudges the issue if you know what I mean. Hope that makes sense.

Scougall and Baxter must have been major disappointments for the manager. He will have expected them to flourish. I'm not sure why they haven't.

Stand out candidatefor me would be Reed

Baxter should be used in the same role taht Warnock used Stuart McCall. We would then benefit from his vision and passing skills. Yet again another talented player not being used well at the Lane!!!!

We certainly need a McCall but I don't think Baxter could play with Stuart's intensity and concentration, nor does he have his "engine".

I think Baxter is a "luxury player", the "icing on the cake" who should only get a place if the cake is of sufficient quality to benefit from icing. In our situation it's like having icing on a pappadom!? Scougall is a second coating of icing and in a way Campbell-Ryce is too.

Not sure that works:rolleyes:

I don't know what it is with us Blades we love a player that runs around all day but can't pass 10 yards but then when it comes to somebody who is naturally gifted on the ball, creative but slow we can't stand them and want them sold. If it wasn't for Baxter yesterday we would have lacked any creativity, he was taking Gallagher on for fun which is why he ended up clipping the back of his ankles because he was frustrated.

We had a similar player in McDonald, but the crowd seemed to stay off his back because of his height. The difference between McDonald and Baxter, the latter scores more and can play in several positions. We would regret letting him go he is a true talent.

The world is littered with musunderstood players who managers don't play in their right position. Frankly it's bollocks In my opinion. Baxters biggest problem is inconsistency and if he can't fit into the system then he has to move on. I wish he was good enough to build a team around but frankly he isn't.

I agree that this is often used as an excuse.

Baxter strikes me as a guy who is arguably great at "football skills" but is not a great "footballer". Like the guys who set records for keepy-uppy for 24 hours, doesn't necessarily mean you plonk him in the centre of the pitch at Bramall Lane.

people went on the same about kmac.. i spent hours on here defending him.. the difference is that kmac created loads of cheds goals. perhaps baxter is missing someone to pass to??.. like a STRIKER nigel??

It's no difference really whether the player is Baxter or Kev Mac. The point is, the players round him have to be able to pick up the extra work. With Man C you have two sitting world class defensive midfielder. We have Doyle. He's not good enough, and no longer has the engine to, perform that duty on his own. We don't have a striker who will create his own goals through harrying, pace and strength. So, if we lose the midfield battle, we lose.

I just don't see how Baxter fits into our team at the moment (with the current personnel) without making the team as a whole weaker.

I personally didn't really rate KMac that highly as he didn't really have goals in his game. Baxter does, he's struggling with a bit of form just now though

I'd like to see Baxter play the deep Doyle role more often now that we've filled the slots Jose's often filled in at.

not until he moved to wolves.. weird ;)
i agree he looks better playing the Quarterback position .. but he needs legs round him.. reed.. solved.. over to mr clough

To me he has great talent , but is squandering it by being content to get paid more than the average bloke , and settle for that , he has the ability to be ten times the player hes showing , theres times I could weep for him , when you consider players less blessed who work far harder and never make the grade.

Shall we just go back to hoof and cloggers then?

We need to start building a side around playmakers like Baxter, not moving them on

If by playmaker you mean fat, slow bloke who shows up once in a blue moon then no, we don't need to build a team around him. He has quality so I keep being told however we don't see it often enough.

We really need to move on from players like Baxter if we don't we,ll stay in this division.
Baxter take over from Doyle don't make me laugh
