I blame Paul McCartney

Theres a bar in Playa Flamenca called Ebony and Ivory married couple own it hes really dark shes white which one is the racist there then

its not racist ,I used to eat jam that had a gollywog on it , doesnt make me a racist

racism is about hatred and oppression , theres not even a hint of it , just a clumsy use of an old song title

But as is the way, if you look hard and you want to be offended......

Or... drawing a distinction based on the colour of a players skin, over any other defining aspect, whether or not is it intentional racism. Never mind, I have a friend who is black, so I'm not racist.

It's drawing the distinction he is black. No biggie for me. It's in a positive light so you can hardly say it's racist. Of its time yes but not insulting in any way shape or form. Perhaps you should go work for the BBC, they do moral offence as well as anyone these days.

I dont seek to find it offensive. so I dont , its from 20 years ago
gay men were still getting beaten up then ans gay marriages are now the norm
In the 1600 we dunked witches
we started large scale commercial slavery , but realised it was wrong , its called moving on
but slavery was invented by dark skinned races hundreds of years before that , but no one wants to know that
the Egyptians were well versed in it
s anyone seeking redress for what they did

its a bit much to look backwards to find offence

It must be a matter of interpretation. Perhaps black players were a novelty in the 1990's. I don't base this on moral offence, more on the issue of the highlighting the colour of his skin as if this was some kind of novelty. I have to say that I thought things had moved on by then, so when I said previously about judging by the values of that time, I think even then in the 1990s this is a bit racist.

Surely it shouldn't be an issue or a need for discussion.
Why is his colour an issue?? He is a footballer - full stop!!

Language has changed over the past 2 decades, fortunately even some black people are embarrassed by some of the witch hunting racism calls

Black people are aware they are black , its a fact, does it make them different no , no more than being a red head,
It is a difinitvIe observation, much in the same way Im Caucasian
If someone made a point about me being white should I be offended,
Had the article questioned his ability to be picked because he was black , that would have been unacceptable
Has anyone ever got called racist for saying Billy Bremner was a short freckled scottish ginge
that was personal attack not a vague reference to a song but wont be seen as racist

The title is demeaning and cringeworthy.

Imagine if this picture were entitled "Ivory In Ebony"...

Being ginger is not a matter of race. Being Scottish is and I feel sure there are some who would be offended for the suggestion that being Scottish was in some way demeaning and part of an insult, whether or not the offence was meant. Your argument seems to be that as YOU are not offended to be defined primarily by your skin colour then it can't be racist. Have you ever been defined by your skin colour or nationality above any other aspect?

calling black people a different race , to me is as racist as it gets
we are all the same just have skin pigmentation diffferences from our climatic backgrounds

I have personally never lived outside a white european community so rarely rxperienced "racism " , but even living in spain have experienced mild zenophobia about being from a different country- But its this constant looking for racism thats extending what is a diminishing problem
I havent seen or heard any racist remarks at a football match for 15 to 20 years , no throwing of bananas or monkey chants
By
seeking out rubbish from the past its stirring up a pot thats gone from boiling to a light simmer

What happened 20 years ago has no relevance whatsoever now

lets file it away as of that era

Happy to say we on the same level BTL, where I would defer however is to say that to draw attention to the simplistic and (IMHO) lazy racism of the past is a reminder of how we have moved on. The examples that you give are gross examples of racism and as someone who has sat on the Kop since 1992 I can't remember overhearing any such. But at the same time, the awareness of how unintentional racism at a more underlying level, has led to an understanding that language and humour does play a part.

I've heard plenty of racist chanting by blades fans (though usually just very small groups) at away games

Sorry to hear that. I can only go by my own experience, which has pretty much been shouts of "Gerritupfront", rather than racism. But time moves on and I would like a atmosphere that welcomed any fans who turned up whatever their background. #unitedtogether
