The Away End?

I actually think it looks good. As a 30k+ traditional ground but below 40k is there a better one?

I would say city ground is only one that could match us, i would have added white hart lane but in 4 months its about to be demolished

because of the huge amount of identical stadia at 25 - 35k range like Derby, Leicester, Southampton, Coventry, Reading & Swansea

Since the upper tier in the BL stand is considered to have the best view in the ground. why not have it for our own supporters and give the bottom tier to the away fans? Zero cost.
Save any money for ground improvements at the Kop end for new roof, pillar removal and any affordable extension.
Don't spend that much money that we cannot afford decent players though like has happened in the past

Whatever architectural direction we take, we mustn't enclose the stadium.

Manchester United have and they need to (at last meeting) replace their pitch, three times a season.
Something to do with wind, speed and direction.
That was before they had a desso
Pitch they don't need to now

I know the new development plans that came about during our World Cup bid were pretty impressive and would be welcomed by many however this simply won't happen until we get to the promised land and demand forces the powers to be.....

But the away end.......

The smallest stand at the lane and one that in all fairness lets down the overall style of the ground regardless of the left hand side work to tie it in with the south stand.

Was this effective enough? Did we miss an opportunity?.......

I know most would say that there is little that we can do with that stand due to a main road running directly behind the stand, but this isn't true!!......

Many a ground have been faced with the same problem because of how football stadiums were traditionally built.......The solution being to build over the road with the wonders of modern day steel structures and engineering.....

So why didn't we do it?

.......................................................................................

I don't have the luxury of photoshop therefore I am just going to have to show what I mean with the wonder that is Microsoft Paint....

This in my opinion is what they should have done before working joining the away end to the south stand....They should have used a steel structure to increase the overall size of the stand in some way....Bring it out over the road like they have done at other grounds......Thus adding a good few rows and making the upper tier and the stand as a whole more attractive.

It could have been quite a nice stand in it end.......

And that my friends is my microsoft paint session over........:D:D[/QUOTE
Look a bit scabbish to me......

Do we really need any more capacity?! Improving the kop to remove the pillars I agree with, adding more empty seats I don't. When we were in the PL we got 32/33k most games without it being a complete sell out, assuming we'd do the same again what we have is fine. Half empty stadiums look rubbish so why do we want one?
Think it was more a less complete sell out most games and don't forget we were restricted with a low away capacity and could have easily sold more home seats if available for the bigger games.

A realistic initial capacity of about 37000 would be about right in the premier league. Build the capacity up the stronger and more established we become after that. A top end premier league Sheffield United wouldn't go far wrong with a 40-45k capacity.

The current capacity is too low for United in the Premier League.

If and when the kop ever gets done it needs to be a total redevelopment. Flattened the mound and the pukka corner thing and rebuilding as one with a much greater rake and getting rid of all those steps from the turnstiles

I think the addition of escalators and 50 person lifts to raise the assembled multitudes to the multi outlet concourse with various lucrative franchises (example as in Dubai airport) should sort all that until some twat lets of a pyro in a confined place.

Remember the 70's when everything was hunky dory and we embarked on a major ground redevelopment? It nearly fucking bankrupted us and set us back to the extent where we never really recovered. Remember up until that point we were primarily a 1st division club as well.

Kop just needs sorting really, the Kop and the south stand have the most room for expansion, so make the most sense. It would be nice if they could build John Street out a bit, because as someone else said, for the size of it, it doesn't hold a lot. The Kop needs to be steeper, just doing that and sticking a new roof on will add a fair bit to our capacity, new amenities too, maybe some kind of automated pie dispenser haha. It'd be nice to have more seats for disabled fans too.

Don't think we need massive capacity though. In the unlikely event England gets the world cup, there are that many huge stadiums that we'd never get a look in. Wembley, London Stadium, Emirates, Etihad, Old Trafford, Anfield, New White Hart Lane, Goodison Park, Stamford Bridge. They're not coming to Bramall Lane, they probably don't have to stray outside the M25 to be honest.

40,000 is fine. As has been said, you don't make money from attendances anyway if we got to the Premier League, you make it from TV. Look at Bournemouth, their max capacity is about 12000, they've done alright. Any improvements should be quality of life improvements for fans rather than biggest capacity dick measuring imo.

The Kop needs to be done properly. Get rid of the slag and ashpile it is built on. Build at a steeper rake with seats and spacing like MK Dons. Don`t lose a co-ordinated atmophere by building it double decker. It won`t matter one bit if the roof line is higher than the rest of the ground. Make proper concourses with good facilities. Keep prices low to fill it.

Making it steeper whilst keeping the same roofline means a reduced Kop capacity.
Also making more spacing between seats like at MK again means a reduced Kop capacity.

So your proposal to spend millions to lower the capacity to about 28K ish.
Keeping prices low means it will never get the money back and be in massive debt for years.

I've said many times any proposals can't be a vanity project.
There must be a business plan, like they have on "The dragons" tv programme.

The men in charge of SUFC will want to know the cost of the project.
How much they predict income will increase with a projection of how long it will take to recoup the investment.

Mcacabe is a property development expert so will have no doubt wayed up all options. Would love to hear his honest off the record personal views on his plans and intentions. I would imagine McCabe will want it incorporate student accommodation, students usually don't need parking spaces and it's gauranteed income.

Agree with the others, would LOVE to see the Kop expansion, mainly because that's the worse stand, remove the pillars, bolt on 3,500 seats at the back at a steeper rake an build sizable covered concourse areas. A bolt on design is much much cheaper and means the Kop doesn't need to closed reducing capacity to 20K for a season (which would lose us more revenue).

Just one thing you failed to take into account, is that sooner or later the kop will need doing anyway, it can't carry on the way it is forever and I worried about it when I was a kid (viewing it from behind). Hopefully there is a plan already in to sort it but I'm no architect or builder so i'll leave the speculation of what to have to those who are.

I didn`t suggest keeping the same roofline. It would need to be higher. It would be possible to gain extra capacity from infill in the Cherry Strret corner, and perhaps by moving it back a little way with curves to join John Street and South Stand.
Undoubtedly there is significant cost involved, but lets embrace the 21st century, rather than tagging on to the 19th. Yes there must be a business plan, but it can`t be short term. I would be looking at a 15,000 Kop capacity; a realistic plan, not a vanity project. Ground capacity would be about 36/37000. Keeping prices low (in comparative terms to similar clubs, and Pigs), would help to build the fan base over time.
