With the emergence of the two Kyles I'd be really interested by some feedback about the Academy from Ron Reid. I think the club should take this opportunity to update us at a time of success and outline how they see the next few years panning out.
It was interesting seeing the young lads in the Milk Cup progress to the final and from the information I've been given we had much younger lads than Man Utd had out and a good number of them are eligible at that level for a couple of years to come.
It does really bode well for the future but I'd make a further obsevation from my own experience of watching the youngsters.
What I've noticed is the confidence, and perhaps that little bit of swagger, that the young lads emerging from the Academy seem to have. The Kyles had it and the young fullbacks we've seen this pre-season in Roe and Conner seem to have it too. Although they haven't looked world beaters, and I understand the level of opposition, they have looked steady in the matches/open day so far.
This confidence/swagger is probably nearly as important as the technical and fitness side and seems to suggest the Academy is doing a balanced job.
I suppose one question for Ron would be why no forwards (yes Robertson is trying) or midfielders coming through like our full back production line?
A waste of money like many said?
