Classed as a massive game???

My mate is a Hull City fan & hes adamant that this fixture was classed as massive between the two. Im tending to disagree & say it was only massive from Hulls perspective.

So am i wrong??

Apparently it was only big in the terrace violence sense. I think I was told that United fans had confronted Hull fans on the pitch and then chased them back into their own stand. Don't know if this was before but would explain it being a big game from Hull's perspective.

Hull really care about hating us. And Wendy. And Leeds, Grimsby, Huddersfield, Mexborough Papergirls Under 12s, and lots more. They think we care about them, but they are wrong. A few BBC slapped a few Hull bad lads around, about 20 years ago. That's all.

Massive? I've been to bigger friendlies.

Hey, come on, I can only rely on stories. I'm not nearly as old as some who can remember it ;)

If only it was on Wikipedia, 7Up would know everything about it and would know better than you all!

I'm agreeing with you! It was only really the fighting that brought any attention to it.
Us - old club with history and tradition. Hull - fishy wannabes from a rugby league town.

They thought it was big; we didn't. It was the biggest match of everyone's season when we turned up in Division Four, and because they were one of the four who beat us in the League, they got the 'giant killer' tag.

They still bear a grudge against us for the 1983/4 Division Three promotion season as well, when we pipped them on goals scored. For some reason, their last match of the season away at Burnley was played after the final Saturday of the season, and they needed to win by three clear goals. Hundreds of Blades went to Turf Moor (no mobiles then of course, and Radio Five wouldn't be created for another few years) to see Hull go 1-0 up in the second minute, and then get a second midway through the second half.

I didn't go (I was 9 at the time), but (predictably) I heard it was like the Alamo. Burnley kept them at bay, and United went up instead.

There was a good article in the 'Flashing Blade' a few years ago called something like "Why they love to hate us" which was to do with Hull.
